Well, we soared through the last thread again, so here's a shiny new one!

Corrie is pretty much based around the tragic death of Billy at the moment. Bernie is starting to lose the plot a bit, and ended up in a hotel room with a strange man who is the husband of someone Roy has been chatting to. (It's all a bit confusing!!!) Then she ended up unconcious in the ladies toilets!

Todd and Theo are still together - annoyingly - and Carl (Debbie's brother) has just heard Theo blabbing to Billy in his coffin how he's not a murderer, and he should have saved him, and so on. A guilty conscience, or self pity? (I'm guessing the latter.) Carl was listening (conveniently!) and smirked when he heard Theo 'confessing,' but I'm not sure what he's going to do with the information. Especially as shortly after, Theo saw Carl doing some dodgy dealing with some blokes, and he photographed him. So, they now have 'something' on each other!

Not much happening with the Driscolls at the moment, and Ma Driscoll and Eva have called a truce. But for how long???

Shona and David's new little baby (Harper) is still a bit fragile.

Shiny faced Megan Trainer the Siren who has men (and boys) eating out of her hand, is showing an unpleasant, dark side, after practically threatening Sam (Nick's son) if he blabs anything about her and Will.

And Carla and Lisa have inexplicably made up, as if nothing has happened. On the plus side however, at least we have got rid of the dreadful Undead Becky storyline.

Probably some more bits and bobs to discuss, but I'm sure we'll get to them soon. Smile

Gemma and Chesney are a complete waste of time now. When did they last even have a storyline? And what are they going to do with the family long-term? It’s hard enough finding stories for one child per family, never mind four. And you can’t have half your teen cast all in one family (and all the same age) - no potential for teen romance, inter-family fallouts etc..

We keep hearing how soaps are facing budget cuts - yet Corrie keeps on Gemma and Chesney, Sean, Brian, Kirk and more. Why?

Very poor show for Billy's funeral, if they couldn't afford extras could they not have shoved some of the catering crew or something in at the back or even some corrie fans to fill the church up. That church would have been packed to the rafters irl.

the80sweregreat · 02/02/2026 12:16

Maybe the ITV cutbacks meant they couldn’t have any extras around for Billy’s funeral.
( they could just cutback on old presenters who earn the big bucks like Ant or Dec and so on, but no, less extras for a long running soap instead )

Shellingbynight · 02/02/2026 12:31

They sometimes have a few extras in the Rovers sometimes nowadays (unlike a year ago) so you would have thought they could have had some for Billy's funeral.

Exactly. I bet some people would have been an 'extra' for free. I would! Grin

Agree with this too. They must have a load of staff around for Corrie. They could easily have mustered up 2 or 3 dozen extra people I'm sure.

Definitely! I was chatting to someone recently who's a chaperone for children filming TV/films. She said its very rare that she doesn't end up as an extra on set. I'm sure ITV could have found a few people.

I think Gemma is probably the worst long term character on Corrie. There is nothing to like about her. I am not a fan of Ches either, he was good as a child but not so much in adulthood (like Simon).
The who quads idea was ridiculous.

It all went downhill for Ches after Schmeichel died

The quads were one of those tedious "wouldn't it be hilarious" ideas that scriptwriters have and then are left with the consequences for years

It may be time constraints rather than budgetary ones.

Even with the reduction in time, they are still filming nearly two hours a week. Having loads of extras around the set is probably a pain.

Myrealnameisbetty · 02/02/2026 18:23

I've just watched Classic and Maria/Liam's getting lost on the mountain walk plus their dramatic rescue. 💯 realistic and how they did Corrie back then. Unlike the load of manure we see these days.

Shellingbynight · 02/02/2026 19:43

I agree, even though Classic at the moment isn't as classic as it was previously, it is a hundred times better than today's offerings.

Gingercar · 02/02/2026 20:00

You’d have thought they could AI a congregation nowadays. Or justvrope a load of people from the actual congregation of the church they filmed it in. They filmed Brassed Off in my village and half the villagers were in it playing spectators at a contest. Nobody got paid, everyone loved it.

1reason · 02/02/2026 20:48

Really think Lauren should go on a customer service course! She is rude and unpleasant to most customers in the Rovers. Ollie seems to like her though. Surprised she didn't know what cognac was.
Whatever happened to baby Frankie?

CarlaasFactreh · 02/02/2026 20:50

George has just ordered a bacon and sausage Barm Grin
£6.50 😳

HaddyAbrams · 02/02/2026 20:52

Surely Todd would have Samsung/Apple/Google pay on his phone? I lost* my purse, and therefore bank card, before Christmas. Not an issue. I just use my phone.

*Its not really lost, just under the sofa and I can't reach it and too lazy to pull it out. Blush

NCTDN · 02/02/2026 20:53

I think the £6,50 was for that plus two coffees which I thought was cheap (& I’m a northerner !!).

My local café, which is lucky marginally more upmarket looking than Roy's (typical greasy spoon) would be £6.50 for a bacon and sausage bap and regular cappuccino, aka frothy coffee.

zanahoria · 02/02/2026 21:06

Why was Abi even at that intervention?

How does it help to have her there

and why would Jack want to live with her ?

Gingercar · 02/02/2026 21:07

They’re kind of annoying me with the way they’re portraying Lauren. She could have become a decent character not a caricature.

or he could ask one of his many friends for some money

at least go for a drink with George who offered to pay

I cannot work it out

Is surly barmaid their latest comedy character?

Shellingbynight · 02/02/2026 21:14

So Debbie doesn’t trust Carl with the hotel because she knows he’s lying about who was driving. At least that's something.

I feel sorry for Kev, he’s not going to recover from this until Carl is in a box. Carl has done him over with Abi, Debbie and Tyrone.

Shona and her dad… not interested. I don’t even know why Shona is so fixated on finding him. Presumably Jodie doesn’t want her to find him because Jodie lied about how badly he treated her after Shona left.

I’m finding it hard to keep trudging through the Todd stuff. It looked like he had Theo figured out and was on the verge of leaving. Now he’s obediently doffing his cap to Theo again. It doesn't ring true.

Is Lauren supposed to be funny? No one would give her a job the way she carries on, especially Ma Driscoll. It's a shame because the actress is good but she mainly gets dross.

zanahoria · 02/02/2026 21:17

I thought Mal was going to Shona's dad

OnTheBoardwalk · 02/02/2026 21:21

I’m absolutely not making any excuses for Theo but I do think an intervention is needed for Todd on how he got the credit and managed to rack up £7k credit card debt in a few months.

I don’t know Todd but if he lived on my street I’d lend him £20

FieryA · 02/02/2026 21:38

I thought the Todd/Theo saga would come to some conclusion, with Todd filming and keeping record. But all of that seems to have gone to waste and he is allowing himself to be controlled again. I think Billy was on to something but even that has become pointless because Todd doesn't seem to listen to anyone.
