Well, we soared through the last thread again, so here's a shiny new one!

Corrie is pretty much based around the tragic death of Billy at the moment. Bernie is starting to lose the plot a bit, and ended up in a hotel room with a strange man who is the husband of someone Roy has been chatting to. (It's all a bit confusing!!!) Then she ended up unconcious in the ladies toilets!

Todd and Theo are still together - annoyingly - and Carl (Debbie's brother) has just heard Theo blabbing to Billy in his coffin how he's not a murderer, and he should have saved him, and so on. A guilty conscience, or self pity? (I'm guessing the latter.) Carl was listening (conveniently!) and smirked when he heard Theo 'confessing,' but I'm not sure what he's going to do with the information. Especially as shortly after, Theo saw Carl doing some dodgy dealing with some blokes, and he photographed him. So, they now have 'something' on each other!

Not much happening with the Driscolls at the moment, and Ma Driscoll and Eva have called a truce. But for how long???

Shona and David's new little baby (Harper) is still a bit fragile.

Shiny faced Megan Trainer the Siren who has men (and boys) eating out of her hand, is showing an unpleasant, dark side, after practically threatening Sam (Nick's son) if he blabs anything about her and Will.

And Carla and Lisa have inexplicably made up, as if nothing has happened. On the plus side however, at least we have got rid of the dreadful Undead Becky storyline.

Probably some more bits and bobs to discuss, but I'm sure we'll get to them soon. Smile

I’m just going to make a confession as I know you lot will not judge.

I only found out today that Megan Trainor is a singer . Did NOT know this and thought Megan Trainer the baddie was just Megan Trainer because of all the PE etc.

soz.

Nah, we won't judge! 😘

My DH wouldn't really know of THE Meghan TrainOR. 😃

So I'm pretty sure that some others haven't heard of her/wouldn't know anything by her. DH is not into any fairly recent/last decade music. He likes some of Taylor Swift's songs, and has obviously heard of her! But wouldn't be able to name more than half a dozen pop stars from this past decade.

I'm much more into music than him, so am more familiar. Do you remember the song 'all about that base?' That was quite big about 11-12 years ago. That was Meghan Trainor.

When I watch repeats of Father Ted, Mrs Doyle is so funny but as Ma Driscoll, it doesn’t work with the actress. Wasn’t she also in EE? I don’t want it, what was she like in it?

The actress who plays Ma Driscoll in Corrie (Pauline McLynn) played Libby in Shameless UK too. She was a likeable character in that. She is awful in Corrie!

In fact quite a lot of actors from Shameless UK have been in Corrie. Including Aaron McClusker who plays Ma Driscoll's son Ben, Sally Carman who plays Abi, Joe Duttine who plays Tim, Chris Bisson who played Vikram, Qasim Aktar who played Zeedan, Ciarán Griffiths who played Damon (who had a fling with Sarah Platt,) and even the woman who hit Debbie in prison was in Shameless too playing Chris Bisson's character's wife. Oh and the actress who played Karen in Shameless played a prison guard in Corrie who was having a thing with Rob - Carla's brother.

I'm sure there are more!

I used to watch Corrie from start to finish. Now I don’t bother if I have missed an episode. Quite often it will be on in the background but I can be tidying up or on MN at the same time these days. It’s completely lost its appeal. Eastenders did it years ago and I only tuned in recently when Grant Mitchell and Angie Watts came back!

Its lost its appeal for me. We watch it late in the evening and I have started to fall asleep before it has finished. I used to love it but now so many characters have had personality changes to fit ridiculous plots I can't be bothered .

Glaspeated · 22/02/2026 11:08

There’s far too much crime-related storylines. How may of the street’s residents have been arrested or banged up now? It’s like they built a police station set and a prison set and have to get their money’s worth. It’s becoming like an episode of The Bill.

SabreIsMyFave · 22/02/2026 13:06

Hmmm yeah, Corrie did get quite good in the few months leading up to Christmas, but it's losing its way a bit again. As has been said, too much crime, and prison scenes. I reckon there have been more prison/borstal scenes in the past 5 years (since 2021,) than there were in the entire 60 years it had been on up to 2021! LOL!

Yes I agree, way too much police station action and criminality. I don't understand why they have chosen that route, it rips the heart out of what Corrie is really about. And none of the criminal storylines are resolved satisfactorily. Joel died, but his killer is serving pints in the Rovers (when she can be arsed to). Carl killed Billy but Debbie is in jail. And Swain has cocked up every case she's worked on yet she hasn't been fired.

Fransgran · 22/02/2026 14:15

Pauline McLynn was a main character in Jennifer Saunders' wonderful and much missed ( by me!) Jam and Jerusalem. I think she is a wonderful and versatile actress but on Coronation Street she's being lumbered with the part of a ridiculous, cartoonish Irish mammy. I doubt if Judi Dench in her prime could do anything with that script - other than run a mile. Which she would have done.

AmusedMaker · 22/02/2026 14:45

Agee, Pauline McLynn is a good actress who has been lumbered with a ridiculous part. Maybe she thought she’d be welcomed like Maureen Lipman ? ( who can be very sharp at times )

CherryogDog · 22/02/2026 14:55

@Fransgran Jam and Jerusalem is brilliant!
And on you tube for anyone wanting to watch it.

The sad thing is that, at the start when Maggie had the scenes with Asha, she looked like she had potential - a sort of no-nonsense but with a heart character. But since then she’s just become a nasty old cow.

Shellingbynight · 22/02/2026 15:51

Yes at first I thought Ma Driscoll was going to be a Blanche/Evelyn type character, which would have worked well in the Rovers. But sadly not.

and lumbered with an absurd back story complete with flash back episodes

We have already had her killing her husband and apparently there is more nonsense on the way.

Piling all this stuff on makes it harder for actors to develop their characters

Yeah, this. ^ She seemed like a bit of a judgy mother-in-law who wasn't keen on her daughter in law (it does happen!) But she was showing Asha a kindness... and she showed some promise early on.. Even Evelyn (Maureen Lipman) who has a bit of an acid tongue can be kind, and funny... Ma Driscoll is just horrible.

What she did to Eva at Christmas - throwing her abortion in her face! In front of everyone - was horrific, and she continues to be vile... 'you will never be part of this 'family!' and 'there is nothing I wouldn't do for my boys!' Her character is almost farcical, like a pantomime villain, but without the humour.

Ben is a wimp too. If my mother in law had done something so vile to me, (as Ma Driscoll did to Eva on Christmas day,) DH would have torn strips off her! And probably cut her off. She never did anything or said anything bad to me though, and was (for the most part) nice to me. I think she was relieved that her son had a girlfriend at last. I was his first (he was 23!) and she was worried he was going to be on the shelf forever LOL. Looking back now, 23 isn't even that old! 😆

I agree - she is definitely like a pantomime Dame @SabreIsMyFave

LesserSpottedCharacter · 22/02/2026 18:57

Bloody hell, I've just listened to an On The Sofa podcast with a Chuckle brother thinking Carl would have had a mention. Not a peep 😫, that's 20 minutes of my life I'll not get back.

I've listened to half of another one, they're quite fun (thanks to the PP who mentioned them). Jack PS is the least chatty, bit like when he was in the sleb BB house.

@LesserSpottedCharacter I listened to some of the podcasts when Gail left, as it was interesting hearing Jack talk about Helen. But often it's a lot of ramble about something I'm not interested in!

SabreIsMyFave · 23/02/2026 08:52

I actually miss Helen (Gail) but I didn't like what they turned her into.

She was a feisty, no-nonsense woman, and they turned her into a simpering quiet-voiced wimp!

Shellingbynight · 23/02/2026 09:00

I agree, Gail is brilliant on Classic but they turned her into a simpering idiot so I am not surprised she left. Why did they do that? Audrey is still Audrey (when she's around!)
