Well, we soared through the last thread again, so here's a shiny new one!

Corrie is pretty much based around the tragic death of Billy at the moment. Bernie is starting to lose the plot a bit, and ended up in a hotel room with a strange man who is the husband of someone Roy has been chatting to. (It's all a bit confusing!!!) Then she ended up unconcious in the ladies toilets!

Todd and Theo are still together - annoyingly - and Carl (Debbie's brother) has just heard Theo blabbing to Billy in his coffin how he's not a murderer, and he should have saved him, and so on. A guilty conscience, or self pity? (I'm guessing the latter.) Carl was listening (conveniently!) and smirked when he heard Theo 'confessing,' but I'm not sure what he's going to do with the information. Especially as shortly after, Theo saw Carl doing some dodgy dealing with some blokes, and he photographed him. So, they now have 'something' on each other!

Not much happening with the Driscolls at the moment, and Ma Driscoll and Eva have called a truce. But for how long???

Shona and David's new little baby (Harper) is still a bit fragile.

Shiny faced Megan Trainer the Siren who has men (and boys) eating out of her hand, is showing an unpleasant, dark side, after practically threatening Sam (Nick's son) if he blabs anything about her and Will.

And Carla and Lisa have inexplicably made up, as if nothing has happened. On the plus side however, at least we have got rid of the dreadful Undead Becky storyline.

Probably some more bits and bobs to discuss, but I'm sure we'll get to them soon. Smile

barm cakes

bread rolls or similar.

They are like baps
So Sausage or bacon barm

Factreh would often send someone out for cakes from Roy's often cream horns if it was someone's birthday or a contract was landed.

The Kabin used to be such an important part of the Street. But that was when Reet was in there. Now it's Brian I am not sure I want to see much of it, the scenes last week were painful.

They must have got the whole set out of storage recently including the Cliff Richard CD.

Not sure how that place would make money now hardly any one buys newspapers but they survive on sherbert lemons and stationery

I went on the Coronation Street tour a few years ago. We decided to have a coffee in the on-site cafe before starting. I thought it would be funny to ask if I could have a bacon barm (amused me and my aunt anyway) but just got a bemused look from the young bloke serving.

Shellingbynight · 01/02/2026 12:18

@zanahoria And to think there used to be a sub post office in the Kabin (although someone used to insult Rita by calling it a toffee shop, was it Blanche?)

I agree, what would people buy in there now, sherbet lemons or vapes - which would be available in Dev's. I doubt they could survive on 'stationery'!

SabreIsMyFave · 01/02/2026 13:57

I doubt that a little corner shop like The Kabin would survive now in the 2020s. Especially with so few people using it.

I know a few in some suburbs, (some of them have a little post office too,) but there are 100s of houses around it, maybe even a thousand in a few cases. (Like, a big 1960s, or 1970s council estate...) Many people pop there for bits and bobs - papers, magazines, stamps, leccie, bread, sweets, crisps, chocolate, tinned food, lotto tickets, ciggies, and even a few frozen meals.

The 'main shops' are a couple of miles away, and sometimes it's just easier to pop to the little convenience store in the precinct (usually situated near a Chinese takeaway, a chippy, a nail bar, a hairdressers or barbers, and sometimes a small fruit and veg shop that sells fresh bread and fresh cakes, as well as fruit and veg...)

But somewhere like The Kabin - on a street with less than 3 dozen properties, I don't think it would get enough trade to survive to be honest. Not now. Maybe many years ago when there were way less 'big shops' and big shopping centres not too far away, but not now.

Yes I agree, especially as there is Dev's as competition and he has a much bigger range of things people might actually want. There wouldn't be room for both shops.

There's still a kebab takeaway isn't there? Dev owns it and Ches used to work there?

CarlaasFactreh · 01/02/2026 15:12

@SabreIsMyFave

The Kabin would have to branch into being a parcel shop to survive, also selling vapes
Wierd isn't it Vinted and Vapes are part of everyday life but never mentionedno I dont vape

Its one of the enjoyable bits about vintage Corrie, contemporary, every day things that are no longer mentioned.
No-one goes shopping for clothes or mentions their Vinted bargain or gets an online grocery delivery

His cafe has not changed much in the thirty years he has been there apart from the coffee machine and Nina adding vegetarian options. Back in the real world, cafes have improved massively in this country and grotty little places don't survive.

like a dirty greasy spoon would still be operating not having been modernised or upgraded in any way to meet the current trends of matcha teas, breakfast granolas etc it’s hardly a trucker’s pit stop !

I would say more cheesey than classy but he certainly tries.

He is definitely the sort of bloke who would expect his girlfriend/wife to be well dressed

Sinita vs Bernie 🤣🤣

Thistooshallpass. · 01/02/2026 15:43

Agree with how dingy Roy’s is .. and who goes for a cuppa a stones throw from their house .
However even worse is the dated vibes of the Chariot Sq hotel .. sold as a 5* establishment for the high flyers .. all gaudy dated patterns , crushed velvet and mirrored furniture.

Ohhh and at the party ...I was trying to work out why Summer there and what her connection was to everyone...

Than realized...it was Joanie !!

Me too!

sorryIdidntmeanto · 01/02/2026 16:07

What bothers me is how each person apparently styles their home in the same way as their clothing. When someone moves into a house it is instantly refurbished and over styled. Debbie's is ridiculous, Maria's is all pink and crushed velvet. Carla has marble everywhere. IRL people don't have the time, money, need or inclination to reflect their personality in every aspect of their home.

the80sweregreat · 01/02/2026 17:17

I don’t like that painting of Debbie with ( what looks like ) bubblegum ! Did someone paint her ?

and the constant cheesey piano music

I so agree
Love Roy but hate his filthy cafe!

As long as I can remember he has served food wearing the same old cardigan and filthy greasy apron, and his hair falling into his face.I can remember Nina wearing her back lace goth gloves while serving food as well
In real life Health and Hygiene would have closed it down years ago.

OnTheBoardwalk · 01/02/2026 20:39

Didn’t someone, I’m thinking David but he gets the blame for everything, put a prawn sandwich behind the radiator forcing Roy to do a deep clean? That seems at least 10 years since it was last cleaned

And for some reason people who live in tiny terraces and are on minimum wage think nothing of popping there for the night!

NCTDN · 01/02/2026 21:20

Or for a birthday treat!!

Deadringer · 01/02/2026 22:14

Thanks for the new thread, just catching up after a busy week.

They could do a very good budgeting story line on which Gemma and Chesney sort out their income and benefits and stop spending money in the caff. And possibly get rehoused elsewhere.

I know right! DH and I aren't on the bones of our arse/are reasonably solvent, but if we want to book a trip away in the UK, and want to use a hotel, we use a Travelodge 90% of the time.....

It's bizarre that people on Corrie (who are, as has been said, not very well off,) go for a 'quick jolly' (like one night) in a fancy, 5* hotel. 😆

Yes, please! Does anyone like Gemma and quads?

No, she is a poor one dimensional joke character and the quads are just silly.

I do not even like thinking about the poor mites stuffed into one room along with Joseph.

Years ago, Freshco was giving them wads of cash for sponsorship but they walked away as it wasn't real. Ever since their poverty has been a daft joke especially when Granny Moneybags shows up and does something ridiculous like sending Joseph to Oakhill.

Shellingbynight · 02/02/2026 08:57

I think Gemma is probably the worst long term character on Corrie. There is nothing to like about her. I am not a fan of Ches either, he was good as a child but not so much in adulthood (like Simon).
The who quads idea was ridiculous.
