They wouldn't have unknowns though. If they had guest judges it would be unqualified celebs.

Shirley was pretty unknown to the general public when she was installed as a judge. And Darcy Bussell was a bit niche in her fame. Someone well known in the world of L and B completions, ballet or musical theatre but not necessarily famous to the average citizen could do a good critique.

AlwaysRightISwear · 30/03/2026 08:24

I thinks there's a difference between permanent and special guest though. Look at the occasional special guests they have now.

Bluffinwithmymuffin · 30/03/2026 08:55

@Choux
exactly this.

Bluffinwithmymuffin · 30/03/2026 08:59

Thinking about it, every year a lot of the celebs are unknown to various sections of the public at the start, so if the powers that be wouldn’t invite guest judges based on them not being famous, they’re missing a trick.

Alison Hammond claims to have been approached and turned it down because her plate is too full. Don’t have a link, it came up on Apple News.. I know some people will be relieved

I just came here to say this! So they’re obviously going for the generic host then 🙄

I am not sure I believe this. Surely she would have jumped at the chance to be on there?

If it is true then I am relieved as I can't stand her. Would have thought whoever is in charge of deciding on the new presenters would realise she is not that popular

Sweetiedarling7 · 08/04/2026 15:18

I would have loved Alison Hammond but each to her own of course.

I have been thinking they might have a series long audition for the Clauditorium. When Richard Osman left Pointless he wasn’t replaced. Instead a number of different celebs have done the role for several weeks’ shows each. Some have come back and some haven’t. Sally Lyndsey was dreadful and monotone although I think she might have been the first after Richard so big shoes to fill. I recall Ed Gamble being really good at it.

Anyway they could fill the Tess role with a solid live TV host and then have several Clauditotium hosts rotating each week for the series possibly with two sharing it for the later weeks. Then for the 2027 show they can sign the best. Or even keep the rotating clauditorium hosts.

Gethin Jones was really good on Pointless too. He would have the advantage of knowing what it’s like to be a contestant.

Give the job to a straight man? Controversial…

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 08/04/2026 16:49

@mydogisthebest but she can hardly make such a bold claim and it be a lie! Talk about making a fool of yourself

Well you would think that she would not lie about it but I just feel it's not true. She is in everything and think she would have jumped at the chance to do it. It's one of, if not the, biggest shows on tv.

Didn't she say she had not lost weight with fat jabs but is now saying she has had them?

lolly1012 · 09/04/2026 10:07

Maybe she was approached to be in the running for the job, rather than being flatout given it?

That is what she implied - it wasn't a the jobs is yours convo, it was do you want to be considered convo. She probably knew she wouldn't get it and ruled herself out.

mydogisthebest · 09/04/2026 10:48

lolly1012 · 09/04/2026 10:07

Maybe she was approached to be in the running for the job, rather than being flatout given it?

Possibly. They may have spoken to quite a few people to see if they might be interested or not.

I would be surprised if she was ever seriously considered because she is so marmite and I certainly know more people that dislike her than like her. Two of my friends no longer watch Bake Off because she is in it and quite a few no longer watch the Battersea dog programme because she does it.

lolly1012 · 09/04/2026 13:12

I can see why they would consider Alison to be fair - she has a lot of presenting experience, and is a former contestant so would be able to relate to the experiences. But she does have a lot on her plate already, and it would be bordering on overexposure

With the marmite thing, I feel like no matter who they hire there will be at least a few complaints. I literally haven't seen a single suggestion that has been universally agreed with

LittleBitofBread · 09/04/2026 14:33

I'd like Alison H in the Clauditorium. She'd be great with the contestants.

C8H10N4O2 · 09/04/2026 15:14

I like Alison and agree she would be good in the Clauditorium.

I would really like it to continue to be two women but the number of women with this kind of live presenting experience outside of sports programmes is quite small (which is also why I’d like more women!).

Do Mel and Sue have much live presenting experience? I’ve seen them in a lot of edited but not fully scripted shows and I know they both do a degree of stand up but how much studio floor live work have either of them done?

If she were in the clauditorium I don't think I would ever watch it again. Her shrieking laugh and cackle does my head in

Well, horses for courses. Whoever gets it, some will love them and some will loathe them.

Oh definitely but I am sure that there are some people that are more liked than loathed.

autumngirl714 · 10/04/2026 17:34

I wonder if Gorka is actually leaving? Given that they haven’t released anything yet? It seems a bit strange they’ve announced all the girls at a similar time but nothing about any of the male pros?

The DM are reporting that ITV are not going to be filming any more episodes of The Chase this year which frees up Bradley Walsh to do Strictly.

Oh no! That's the worst news. He is just unbearable.

AlwaysRightISwear · 12/04/2026 09:45

This year though. Strictly needs someone in it for the long run.
