I'm actually getting a bit bored now, it's so dragged out, there are far too many people and too much plot armour. I thought they should have had one main character death in the seven episodes so far.

MrsMitford3 · 26/12/2025 17:24

Agree that it has dragged out-my DD was doing her GCSE's when it started and she is a primary school teacher now!!

That's a long time for 5 seasons

DS was 6. He’s doing GCSE’s now.

Am I the only one who's incredibly distracted by how much older El looks? All of the teenagers look older than 16 obvs (not criticising that, especially as it's quite in keeping with the 80s theme!) but the lip filler and slicked back bun make El look about 30 and vaguely like Bella Hadid. It brings me right out of it each time there's a shot of her face!

DallasMajor · 26/12/2025 19:56

I've skimmed as only on the start of the second new episode - I do agree that El looks jarring, but I think it is because of how it compares with her when she was first in it, so young and vulnerable in a way the others weren't.

I find Nancy looks a lot older than she should be.

I find the teenage angst quite annoying, it is meant to be the end of the world and the angst seems so trivial.

Loopytiles · 26/12/2025 20:04

Loved all of it!

I think it’s more than age with Milly B. Brown, the others are older too and it’s not jarring. it’s the lip filler and more - fillers beyond the most obvious top lip and/or botox, perhaps? Face looks different and more frozen, compared with the others. Also seems detrimental to her acting. Sad.

I'm loving season 5. BUT there hasn't been a single main character death yet. I fear that there will be multiple deaths in the finale and it will be all too much.

Loved the return of Max. Loved Will's coming out despite it being super cheesy.

Kali is definitely up to something. I think she's made a deal with Dr Kay. Kay saw both El and Kali disappearing into the upside down and just let them go when she could have stopped them.

Yeah, the top lip was what struck me the most. Such a shame as she's only young and was beautiful beforehand! I understand as an actor it must be so hard to see your own face all the time though, must get a bit dysmorphic after a while.

Daytimetellyqueen · 26/12/2025 20:28

Has MBB actually had lip filler & botox? I don’t think she looks like she has had any work done, she just naturally has very full lips (my 19 year old DS has lips that are exactly like hers and he definitely hasn’t had lip filler but sometimes when I look at his lips, even I think he has!)

x12 · 26/12/2025 20:55

She also has always had a fairly grown up face from a young age if that makes sense. Some dc are like that.

I haven’t watched the 2 episodes yet.

Loopytiles · 26/12/2025 21:05

No, she didn’t have a large upper lip or an ‘older’ looking face before, it’s a huge change from her face in previous seasons and Enola Holmes. Also has the unnatural look.

Natalia Dyer’s thinness is also jarring, but that has been the same throughout all seasons.

Mixed bag for me, Brilliant actors especially Holly, Derek, Henry, Karen but rubbish writing… seriously it looks like they changed the story.
wormhole theory is attempt to make its basis for science rather than paranormal psychic

I think Kali will use her powers to trick Dr Kay into believing they killed El so El can leave for her new life but not before collateral damage on Will and/or more friends!

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 26/12/2025 23:39

I found MBBs lip distracting as well, it definitely looks like she’s had fillers which I think is really sad as she’s so young and naturally beautiful anyway.

It annoys me that Maxs mum has been absent since Maxs accident, surely she’d have been at the hospital and Max would have wanted to see her when she woke up?!

I liked the first episodes more than this instalment but am very excited to see the final on New Year’s Day.

Max’s mum not being there annoyed me too!

I’m also (irrationally!) annoyed that Holly’s name hasn’t been added to the opening credits! They’ve added Linda Hamilton (which I do agree with), so don’t get why Holly isn't there given she’s a central character this season! I’m not sure why it bothers me so much, but it really does!!

Loopytiles · 27/12/2025 07:12

we can presume Max’s Mum visited Max in hospital, off screen. All being well perhaps we will get a reunion at the end of the finale.

Then again, Vecna pretended to be Max’s Mum in season 4, he can do that without killing people but could have killed her. If he’d done so though it would have been shown.

It annoys me that there is no concern for Hopper, El, Nancy, Dustin etc

Daytimetellyqueen · 27/12/2025 09:18

What do you mean @DallasMajor? There is concern for all of them?

PrincessScarlett · 27/12/2025 09:36

I think Hopper's character has suffered a bit due to all the stuff that has come out about the actor. It shouldn't do but I think it has. Hopper doesn't seem to be such a main character either. Focus is definitely on the kids and Henry.

Also, what is going on with Nancy and Jonathan? There appears to be a lot of confusion online as to whether they've actually broken up. I thought the non proposal was just a way of saying I thought we should get married to fix our problems but we don't need to. Have they split up? It's not very clear. Well, to me anyway!

Loopytiles · 27/12/2025 09:54

I found it clear that they’ve split up due to being incompatible. Just done in a caring way: unusual on screen!

Hopper’s story arc was featured in preceding seasons, his main role now is to seek to protect Elle/Jane, makes sense storywise.

I’m enjoying the new young characters and ensemble scenes.

I agree @Loopytiles Jonathan and Nancys conversation in the melty room was clearly a break up to me. It was a “we love each other but need and want different things’ chat.

Hop’s role shifted after the Russia storyline and it’s now clearly his role to get El where she needs to be at the end game. He finally trusts her and acknowledges her.

The only part I’m finding jarring is Kali being around. But she had to be or she’s a huge loose end floating around the universe.

I will rewatch it again, but there was no mention of the group in the upside down- it felt a bit fractured for me- the groups completely separate.

Saying that I really enjoyed it, especially the penultimate episode.

I understand what you mean. They were gone for a while but no one seemed particularly worried about their whereabouts

I agree - they’ve definitely split, but in a mature & loving way. They’ll now always be friends!

Yep she’s annoyingly sinister

DallasMajor · 27/12/2025 11:24

I didn't take it as splitting, but as a reset to see how things go.

Nancy said she didn't know what she wants, Johnathan realised that marriage wouldn't fix it (I was really worried when he got the ring out that he hadn't listened to what Nancy was saying) so they took a step back.

But equally can see that it could mean they split up.

I thought Holly was excellent, and agree she should be in the credits.

Does Vecna know that Max isn't dead?
