Vecna has always known Max isn't dead. That's why he sent the demos to the hospital. She's been trapped in his mind and he tried to stop her escaping. He stopped Holly escaping over Max as Holly is needed for his plan to work. I think he's underestimated Max though.

Applesontoast · 27/12/2025 12:57

Max didn’t pay much attention to Henry’s scary memory but Holly did and she had compassion for him as a child which I think will be important in the final episode

Invisablepanic · 27/12/2025 13:02

The duffer brothers came out and said Jonathan and Nancy have broken up. I think the fact they have to do this shows the writing could have tightened up a bit more. I'm happy Nancy will end things as a single woman but I loved her and Jonathan in earlier seasons.

I'm surprised Vecna left Max until now, considering he must have known she was at the hospital, just not what room. Couldn't have been that difficult to find out. He knew she was hiding in the caves so a definite loose end for him over the last 18 months before his plan kicked into high gear.

I’m so glad the questions I had have also been asked here.
I watch it with DDs (20&25) and they get so fecked off with having to pause it to answer my questions 😂
where does Dustin’s mum think he is, hasn’t she questioned why he hasn’t been home for months??
Also keep asking DDs why it’s called ‘the upside down’ when nothing is upside down.

I was so disappointed that it turned into a worm hole event because that’s been done multiple times before.

also agree that there wasn’t any deaths, is the final to be a two hour blood bath??

it smacks very much of wrapping years of storyline into a few hours.

The syncic in me thinks it’s just been a money making machine and the production team don’t really care about the viewers, bit like Taylor Swift 😝

xsquared · 27/12/2025 13:44

Having watched all new episodes yesterday, here are my initial thoughts:

Derek will die to save the children and his family, and as redemption for turning against Holly.

Is Kali friend or foe? At the moment, she's definitely manipulating El, but I don't think she will side with Vecna. She knows she will either be hunted ornshunned wherever she goes, and I think she just wants El to herself as a companion.

Nancy and Jonathan definitely broken up. I like that she ends up independent of either love interests, but remains on good terms with them.

Loved Karen Wheeler's "Not my daughter, you bitch!" type move from the previous installment of episodes.

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 27/12/2025 14:17

And they dont seem very subtle with the hint Kali is likely to betray them sort of thing. Many shifty looks

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 27/12/2025 14:34

I think Kali is alright, she has a very valid point that killing Vecna will not mean that it’s over for her and Jane 🤷‍♀️ they can’t exist otherwise the cycle will just continue.

That said I’m assuming Kali will die and Jane will lose her powers rather than die as well. I thought Hopper should have been a bit nicer to Kali actually given what she had just gone through.

The melty room scenes reminded me of a film but I can’t remember which one so that’s bugging me 🙈😂

But does he know the demos didn't kill her?

Nothing about the play (from the stage show and in one of Vecna's memories)

What was in the silver suitcase in the cave?

DallasMajor · 27/12/2025 14:56

Annnddd 😂

Do we know how Will ended up in the upside down in the first place?

DallasMajor · 27/12/2025 14:59

I'm rewatching season 5 , I love the Christmas holidays!

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 27/12/2025 15:18

PrincessScarlett · 26/12/2025 20:09

I'm loving season 5. BUT there hasn't been a single main character death yet. I fear that there will be multiple deaths in the finale and it will be all too much.

Loved the return of Max. Loved Will's coming out despite it being super cheesy.

Kali is definitely up to something. I think she's made a deal with Dr Kay. Kay saw both El and Kali disappearing into the upside down and just let them go when she could have stopped them.

Do think if they kill anyone off in the finale it wont have quite the same impact was before..Bob you had episodes afters so more reaction. Billy a season after and same with Eddie so more follow up.

So hopefully if they do go down that route it isnt rushed or for the sake of shock value

Yes, I know what you mean. Very old reference but I hope the deaths aren't like Anyas in Buffy, she died in the finale but because there was so much going on and Spike was the main death, hers barely registered. At least one death in V1 and 1 or 2 in V2 would have raised the stakes, given the remaining characters more to work with and made the audience feel like it was end times and no one is safe. I do worry they're inflating the group to kill off non-core members.

GOTs may have had issues but you always felt tension because anyone could die.

JustAn0therUsername · 27/12/2025 16:41

I do take your point on that. I’m actually wondering at this point if everyone will survive. That would certainly be surprising.

So, they have to:

Get the kids back
defeat Vecna
Close the wormhole
Deal with the matter that melts things
Show us what was in the briefcase
Let us know if everyone’s parents are alive (and Ted)

Also, what happened to the mind flayer? It was looming horribly and next we know it’s all about Vecna

Im sure I’ve missed loads. What else do you all want to know? In 2 hours…

It reminded me of the seagull poo episode of round the twist 😂😂

The story has always been far fetched, and think there’s plenty of time to resolve it.

The Duffers are pretty soft on deaths, which I like!

And this time unlike previous seasons they havent introduced a new likeable character to kill off such as Bob,Billy,Eddie,Alexi.

Only Derek and cant see that happening!

TheatricalLife · 27/12/2025 17:30

Has anyone else felt really bored so far through season 5? I've seen a lot of positive comments here, but I'm struggling with it to be honest, despite REALLY wanting to love it.

PrincessScarlett · 27/12/2025 17:35

I'm guessing that it's exotic matter that is inside the silver suitcase and Henry was exposed to it. I can't think what else it could be.

PrincessScarlett · 27/12/2025 17:42

Also I'm starting to wonder if Henry is actually the villain here. Or at least the only villain. When Kali said that killing Henry wouldn't stop her and El being hunted she was right. And now we know the upside down/the bridge was created by science and not Henry. Perhaps when Henry massacred everyone at Hawkins Lab he was actually stopping a greater evil?

Love that Henry is creepier as himself and not Vecna. Or at least I think so.

DallasMajor · 27/12/2025 18:24

Agree Henry is far creepier.

Dr Kay appears to be a lot stronger than a middle aged woman would be- is she linked to Brennar?

I thought this - he’s SO creepy yet there’s such a subtle and clever hint at vulnerability in unexpected moments. Really good acting.

I love LH, kind of wish they'd given her some sort of back story/link though. Papa was such a good character Dr Kay doesn't really fill that void.

Justcantwin89 · 27/12/2025 21:48

Im holding out for the last episode before I pass judgement on this season.

I still think Murray and Kali will die (look up on the meaning of Kalis name).

I still think the Mind Flayer will be a part of the finale.
I think the children are inside the Mind Flayer.

I think Holly's actress has done amazing, and Lucas has always been great as well.

Yes. It's had a couple of good moments here and there but I've felt my finger hovering over the fast forward button.

Season 4 was similarly boring for long stretches, but it's high points were higher and a little more frequent.

Adding hugely to the runtime of the episodes at the same time they ran out of ideas was not a good call!

Godlovesatryer88 · 28/12/2025 06:26

As much as I like Holly and nothing against the actor or storyline but I don’t know why she’s been given so much screen time in the final season. I feel like we’ve hardly seen some of the main characters and with only one episode to go it seems like not much time left.

My original theory knowing what I know about the play is that the suitcase contained some kind of dark matter that made Henry possessed by the mindflayer/some kind of evil who gave Henry powers and changed his personality causing him to commit the murders of his family etc This is what we know for sure from the play so following on from that my theory is that the real Henry is in there somewhere trying to escape the mind flayer himself. His plan is to use the kids to somehow go back in time and never go inside the cave. This might alter everything we know, maybe the original kids never meet El, or El possibly never was even born.
