I enjoyed it although found it slow to start. I’m not sure the bunches are enough to make Holly look 9 or 10 though, she definitely Looks older but I suppose that’s in keeping with the whole cast!

interesting observation re the play bill- like a pp said, Henry must have been very young when he was in this play as he killed his parents pretty young.

wasn’t expecting to see max appear in the memory world - am intrigued by the significance of the rocks

Haven’t watched the new season as I’m waiting to binge watch all of them, but from what you guys are posting it seems like the show is following the background of the stranger things play that was in theatres this summer. Basically a prequel and Henry’s/Vecna’s back story.
The cave and the play directed by Joyce are significant events in Henry’s life. Don’t want to say too much in case it spoils future revelations/it doesn’t quite match up.

I worry about Nancy as well, she looks frail at times. She appears thinner and more unwell than when my dd was suffering with an ED 🙁

There seems to be a worrying trend for some celebrities to look very underweight at the moment, Arianda Grande is another one who does not look well.

Going back to the play, I thought Ted was quite a bit older than Nancy’s mum. I really need to see the stage show 🙈😂

I thought the scene at the Wheelers was the best, I honestly felt like both the parents would be killed. But when Karen somehow survived having her insides ripped out I realised the plot armour was strong for all the main characters which did decrease the tension a little for the rest of it. Why did vecna not kill Joyce instead of just flying her to the side to get to Will, it doesn't make sense that he wouldn't (especially when eleven is snapping necks of poor random soldiers just doing their guarding jobs!) But aside from that gripe I really enjoyed it, somehow I didn't realise the mystery person in vecna's mind palace was Max when it should have been really obvious. Gosh she's stunning now too.

Spoiler The Cave explained -

The cave is where Henry first went to the ‘upside down’ when he was a child. He stumbled across a cave and inside the cave was stolen equipment from Dr Brenners lab. (A Russian spy at the lad had stolen it and abandoned it). The equipment sent him to dimension X, or now known as the upside down. He already had his innate physic powers but going there further changed and altered him. He ended up in Dr Brenners lab because he was sent there due to “going insane” after killing his mum and sister. Dr Brenner realised he was connected to dimension X. Dr Brenner was on a life mission to find dimension X because his dad was the first person to go there in a botched military exercise. No one believed his dad and he was ostracised as insane. Dr Brenner went about to show his dad was correct and that other dimensions existed.

Spoiler The Play
In high school Joyce, Bob and Hopper all know each other. The Wheeler parents are mentioned too. Bobs sister Patty is younger. When the Creels move to start a fresh, Henry starts school and Patty is one of the only ones who treats him nicely. The ST stage show is centered around the play Joyce is putting on. At the same time we see Henry in the school and how much he’s suffering at feeling so different. The stage show leads up the point where he breaks from all this and kills his mum and sister. We see him taken to the lab where Dr Brenner realises he’s connected to dimension X (upside down) and uses him to try and connect with the other dimension.

I did enjoy it, not as much as previously though. It was very Scooby Doo and some of the acting from a few of the cast was very am dram and hammy. I found myself cringing at some parts.
That said, I'm looking forward to Boxing Day.

Watched the first episode tonight, was pretty hard to get into and I couldn’t understand where max had gone! Hopefully it picks up a bit

Thought for sure either Mike, Lucas or robin were gonna die until Will did that. Vecna is screwed now with 11, 8 and will all with powers. Have an inkling holly might get them too.

I found the initial few a bit slow but loved the last episode. Didn’t realise until after I finished how long I have to wait.

I loved all the nods to other 80s films but i’m an 80s kid.

I can’t remember a lot of the previous stuff so I should probably rewatch.

Did anyone else think Max initially looked very orange in the cave scenes?

There were nods to 90s film too, the wire to trip the demogorgon was defo Home alone.

I found it a little disappointing. Robin was irritating with her big preachy speeches and the huge exposition dump in episode one.
Jonathon and Steve climbing the tower was pathetic.
The attack at the Wheelers was great but I think someone should have been killed.
Will’s acting is atrocious!

It took me ages to place Eleven’s outfit 🙈 It’s totally Josh Brolin in the Goonies.

Im going to watch again purely for 80s movie references!

Agree about cast all looking so much older but guess not much they can do about that so ill suspend belief 😅😅

I got very distracted with Holly looking like Judy Garland in the wizard of oz (maybe we’re meant to make that connection!)

the Wheeler scenes were absolutely fabulous - the defending with a wine bottle, abba scene etc just brilliant

I think Holly was meant to be Alice in Wonderland (blue dress). Who tumbled down a rabbit hole into another world which was upside down. Very fairy tale. and the cloak a bit red riding hood.

DD then saw someone post that Holly was Alice and Max was the Mad Hatter-which her costume lends credence to. Mad Max has become the Mad Hatter...

Although I guess they could be Dorothy and the Scarecrow?

Both Alice and Dorothy make more sense than me thinking she was Red Riding Hood in that cloak.

just thought the whole fairy tale nod-and that they use clothes a lot to pay homage and there are no coincidences so the cloak brought a Little red riding hood vibe.
She went through the woods to escape the wolf.

Really enjoyed it. Agree that Ted and/or Karen should have died but am glad they didn’t, and if one or both had died it would have been less credible for Nancy and Mike to be on quests.

The ‘Robin is annoying’ stuff is down to the writing. Duffers change her character season to season and overall are not as good at writing women IMO.

Thought the Holly costume was a reference to both Alice and Oz. Reminded me a bit or Once Upon a Time. My DM loved a cloak in her youth and the gold one over blue is fun!

Also admired Henry Creel’s tortoiseshell glasses, with the brown suit, colours really suited the actor.

DH spotted the Elle / Goonies outfit.
