just musing really on possibilities

Yes, me too. I'm enjoying reading what people think and then thinking it through.

I do like the idea of Henry fighting himself to not be Vecna and destroying the mindflayer.

I worry about Nancy. That girl is so painfully thin. We've only watched the first one so far, will probably watch the other three tonight.
I thought Eleven was the most obviously older.
I'm finding it hard to look at Hopper since all the 'pussy palace' revelations.

Right?! 🙈🙈🙈🙄

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 05/12/2025 18:37

Finished it last night. Enjoyable though some the acting was a bit off..that "hiya" from he bully was intresting.

The love triangle still going isnt needed and still a shame how much they've changed Robin! So glad Will finally had had his moment to shine though!! Especially after being in the background for so long

So agree about Will! Noah was amazing!

Caleb and Sadie were the stars in season 4 imo.

I think its unlikely that any of the main cast will die, although it wouldn't surprise me if eleven has to go (either for her safety because of still being wanted or because she has to stay in the upside down) sort of like His dark materials which is another great tv show.

Anxietyspiral · 06/12/2025 19:11

The characters talking about hard/soft dick really threw me!

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 07/12/2025 09:54

I think there will be a time travel element so that the mindflayer is destroyed back in the 50s, then Henry will grow up a normal kid, Will will go home and Joyce will see him the next morning (age 11yo) and Eleven will grow up as a normal kid Jane with her mum.

And maybe Jane and Mike meet at college or something like in sliding doors.

This was the theory I thought through last night 🙈😂

That way that could kill off one of the main characters but once the mindflayer is killed he/she would still be living their normal life at the end iyswim.

DallasMajor · 07/12/2025 10:03

@Girliefriendlikespuppies but that would be so disappointing (in my world anyway)

Hopper has been saved by the goings on in Hawkins, prior to it happening he was on a path of self destruction - his daughter would still have died - unless they go back and save her - but with anything time travel, a big change would change too many other things.

If there is time travel I hope it is a way to bring present Henry onto their side to defeat the MF. So past Henry has an experience or something and then can draw on that memory in the present and switch sides.
The idea of memory is important in ST - drawing on the good to make El more powerful for example

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 07/12/2025 10:25

I think Hopper would be the only one worse off though? Think about all the other people who wouldn’t die (Barbara, Billy, Eddie etc) even the nice guy from the burger place.

I can’t see how they’ll end it if there’s still kids/people with powers as they would always be on the run from mad scientists/the government 🤷‍♀️

RayonSunrise · 07/12/2025 10:31

I could be very satisfied by an ending that changed the timeline and gave all the characters happy futures that didn’t involve the pain and horror of their encounters with the Upside Down. Justice for Barb (and Bob, and Eddie, and Chrissie, and Eleven’s mum), etc!

Loopytiles · 07/12/2025 11:07

I wouldn’t like a Back to the Future ending for this at all. I think the characters will move on in life.

I don't think I would either, I do think that Henry is in there and Vecna is what the mindflayer has made him into (Like what would of happened to Will if he didn't have his mum or brother and friends to fight for him and save him).
Henry didn't have that.

JustAn0therUsername · 07/12/2025 13:00

I’m with you @Justcantwin89 it seems the most likely. A Back to the Future timey wimey ending would suck. The programme has been emotional and dark and at times harrowing. To wash all that away for a happy ending would be crap. Game of Thrones ending controversy levels 🤣

It wouldn't be a happy ending for everyone though, poor Hopper 😢.
I think it would be a cop out really.

JustAn0therUsername · 07/12/2025 14:45

True - Hop would be hard hit. It would be a very lazy ending. In resolution of the kids running round with powers, I wonder whether the final battle will see El lose her powers again like she did before due to the effort involved, and there is no papa to recover them this time. The mind flayer is defeated and Will's powers come through that connection so his go by the wayside anyway. 8 dies in battle, as does Vecna, although the latter dies as Henry having come back to humanity.

That way there is none of the issue of randomly powerful kids in the world and El doesn't have to be sacrificed. I keep wondering if Will is going to die despite everything but he'll let Mike know how he feels as he goes and there'll be a moment of understanding so he dies feeling loved.

Invisablepanic · 07/12/2025 16:06

@Girliefriendlikespuppies I've heard that theory quite a lot but to me that would be the worst possible thing they could do as it would render the last 9 years we've spent watching as never happening. They did that exact thing in another series I watched (won't say which as obviously massive spoiler and it's actually a children's show but it was excellent until that moment, I was furious 😂).

There have been loads of pointers to time travel so I'm expecting something of that nature but hopefully not just changing everything. I'm not even happy with the theory that Vecna is mostly a victim of the mindflayer and more if a puppet. He makes an excellent villain so leave that be!

Applesontoast · 07/12/2025 16:53

I’m also expecting a time travel theme with the wormhole lesson Erica was in and all the references to back to the future in this series and last series. Vecna needing 12 kids, 12 numbers on a clock. The date of the high school play might be an important one but I’ve not seen the actual stranger things play to know if it is. I think Henry wants to go back to the 50s and never meet the mind flayer and wants to sacrifice the kids to make the wormhole to get him there. But maybe it fails because I can’t see 12 kids dying and so in the end he sacrifices himself to end the mind flayer. I reckon one of the gang dies too- it would be a bit hopeful for them all to survive. Probably Steve or Jonathan to end the love triangle situation. I guess Steve though because we never see his parents

Justcantwin89 · 07/12/2025 17:54

I just hope that the wormhole interpretation is connecting dimension X and Hawkins (hence the brigde) rather then actual time travel.
But who knows, its fun guessing lol.

I am definitely thinking Vecna is not the main Villian though.

DallasMajor · 07/12/2025 22:09

I think Hopper would be the only one worse off though?

Really ?

I think Jonathan would be worse off, he was a complete friendless outcast in the beginning

Will- he doesn't mature at the same speed as his friends, he still wants to be playing D&D when his friends mature (not saying D&D is only for kids, but part of the plot) if they didn't have a shared trauma I'm not sure the friendship would have survived.

Lucas- he joined the jocks, without the upside down he would have left his friends in the past.

Nancy, seems set to replicate her parents, thinks it is edge to date the bad boy - would get pregnant/settle down instead of following her dream and reporting.

Steve - vacuous, following his parents plan. He is better because of what happens

Robin- still awkward, not having a friend she could confide in, or friends.

Eddie, still stuck in highschool, no purpose or future.

Max- controlled by her racist step brother, living in an abusive family - we see how he treats Billy.

Billy - abused by his parent

More I think about it, the less I like the time travel change history option.

Slightly surprised to see you framing Eddie’s life as better because the Upside Down gave him direction before it killed him, but I guess we all have differences in how much we can imagine people evolving after high school…

But apart from the individual characters, the Upside Down’s influence in Hawkins precedes the abduction of Will Byers. In a lot of ways I think a reset ending would be far more complex and bittersweet than a straight “kill off a main character, let the rest of the plot lines play out as they were already going” ending.

If nothing else it would sort out the massive metal seals all over that corner of Indiana. 😂

DallasMajor · 08/12/2025 20:50

Wasn't Eddie a lot older and had been held back? That was my thought about not progressing rather than the feeling you can't progress after high school.

Invisablepanic · 08/12/2025 21:17

He was 20 according to his tombstone.

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 09/12/2025 13:27

Eddie would have def found his tribe and gone on to have a happy life after high school 🤷‍♀️ he was clever enough to found a way out of Hawkins, he was probably dyslexic which is why he didn’t get his diploma with his peers (yes I am over invested 🙈😂)

They will have to have some sort of reset I think as yes how will they explain all the monsters and great big holes all over the place 😂

Still haven’t got over Eddies’ death. He was my favourite character and I think the world all fell in love with him a little bit judging by the way social media embraced him. At least he died a hero.

Daytimetellyqueen · 09/12/2025 22:19

I never got the Eddie love - he was a minor character & I wasn’t bothered when he died at all!

I liked him the first time I watched season 4 but on rewatch, not so much. He spent the whole season saying he always runs when it gets tough, then the one occasion he should have run he didn't. It was very heavy handed and cringe once you notice what they were setting up. I forgive him though because he was much better than Jonathan's stoner friend.
