I’ve been on Reddit!… the theory over there is that possibly Joyce was the only person nice to Henry in School and he recognised her in that moment.

This made me 😮

It improved over the first four episodes of season 5. The first episode's dialogue was terrible, almost like the Duffers pulled it straight from AI. Immediately after season 4 ended, the talk I heard was that Season 5 would jump ahead to the '90s. That would have been better versus 20somethings trying to look 16. Lucas was the least believable. Having Derek and other characters leaned into more in Episode 4 made it more enjoyable. The character development of the earlier seasons was part of what made Stranger Things more relatable and was missing from most of Season 5. Hopper and Eleven are static, Joyce is nearly pointless, and Robin isn't an interesting enough character to feature so heavily. Having the show transform from an upstart that came out of nowhere and captured our imagination to a megabudget merch machine has tempered my enjoyment as well. I'll watch to the finale, but can't shake the feeling I'll end up disappointed.

Totally agree. It's been a long time, but I remember enjoying the previous four seasons so much more. This is so flat in comparison and the characters are going nowhere. I'm pretty disappointed but will continue to the end!

I agree, the characters have been a
bit two dimensional. Very little for Eleven/ Joyce/ Hopper/ Steve/ Nancy character -wise. Too much Robin who has become very annoying. The storyline has been exciting but I haven’t loved it so far.

Daytimetellyqueen · 01/12/2025 16:29

I’ve loved every second & same as so many people here, Karen fighting with the wine bottle was my favourite part! Love Linda Hamilton too - she looks amazing!

EverybodyLTB · 01/12/2025 17:28

I feel like we’ve had to sacrifice action over personal development of the characters and interpersonal stuff. Maybe we’ll get more as the season goes on. I loved watching the first 4 episodes with my kids, we enjoyed it so much, but between each episode I was a bit bewildered as to what was actually happening with anyone.

Like right, ok, it’s been 18 months what’s gone on with Joyce and Hopper? Joyce was a mother to Eleven while Hop was in Russia, any thoughts on that from either of them? Papa died in the dust and was all she ever knew until she met the gang, what does all of that feel like? Poor Dustin is clearly traumatised, but I’m seeing a lot of commentary about his character being ruined. Maybe some time on what he’s going through would be helpful. Although…. Maybe if we’re being authentic to the 80s, trauma wasn’t a thing and nobody would be discussing any of it?

Me too! She is so sassy

The cast is too big now and it’s got quite unfocused as a result. I found the first two episodes very slow and thought the last two picked up a bit.

My thoughts exactly. At least they didn’t kill Murray off. ST has a habit of getting rid of all the best characters IMO.

I didn't see him get out of the van though at the end of ep 4, Robyn did but where was Murray?! Tbh they need to start knocking some of them off.

I did think it was weird that it was just Robyn, wasn't Johnathan with them as well?

I'm mainly glad they had five series and lookto be having a conclusion. I've watched many shows which I have really enjoyed only for them to stop filming with no conclusion (or worse, on a cliff hanger)

Jonathon's in the upside down

MrsMitford3 · 03/12/2025 08:42

Saw a tiktok that predicted jonathan having a horrible death at the hands of vecna. Nancy will find the cassette to play his fav music and find the ring whilst watching him be broken by vecna.
Why put the ring in a cassette box unless it was a clue?

SleeplessInsomniac · 03/12/2025 21:47

I hadn't planned on watching this until that bit between Christmas and New Year so I could watch all the first 7 episodes just in time for the finale. Teens wanted to watch it here though as there is a lot of chat in school around it so we've just finished watching the 4 episodes across yesterday and today.

I get why some people are a bit disappointed in it (DH has totally tuned out at this point) but I love it all the same. Love all the different references to the music I grew up with, the movies I watched etc.

DS quite early on last season thought Will and Vecna would have a Harry Potter type crossover, so he's delighted to see that there is definitely a hint of that coming up the track.

I'm slightly annoyed at myself for not waiting as planned. I've got so used to binge watching everything, I'll go mad waiting for the next 3 to drop 🤣

Stowickthevast · 04/12/2025 22:30

On the play point, I think they'll have a recap, maybe even go back to 1959. There's been references to Back To The Future, so I think we'll get some insight into what happened with Joyce and Henry at high school.

interesting about Holly = Alice/Dorothy. Max was dressed a bit like the scarecrow in her dungarees.

I'm enjoying it most of it but do find the Hopper/El parts quite boring.

Loopytiles · 05/12/2025 08:04

That’s interesting @MrsMitford3 ! Jonathan would be an interesting death. Devoted older brother and son, love triangle and all that.

The cassette with the ring might have Johnathan's song in, possibly 'Should I stay or should I go",or maybe a song from "The fall"(as he was wearing their t-shirt (Don't know any fall songs but Clash one is wider known).

My morning musings 🤔😁

Justcantwin89 · 05/12/2025 09:01

I think we will get some insight to what actually happened to Henry in the escape from camazotz episode.
Im thinking Max and maybe Holly has to go through Henry's memories.

Although knowing what happens in the play if they keep to the same story line a lot of people will know, but it will be nice to see it in the show.

I do think the ultimate evil is the mindflayer and the brigde will be when dimension X will try and merge with Hawkins thats why the wormhole theroy is so important.

I love all the 80s references with books and films and toys, and they tie them up as easter eggs.

I do like binge watching but I also love a little break between as its nice to be able to talk like this on the what happens next.

Invisablepanic · 05/12/2025 09:42

@Justcantwin89 I know, I love a good binge but I also like to be forced into giving myself time to properly think about it. DH has kind of given up on in it but thankfully DS is a big fan so we've been able to discuss it. He's 14 now so perfect age but it's odd thinking he was just 5 when I first watched season 1!

Applesontoast · 05/12/2025 10:36

I think the wormhole theory is really important too. Maybe they can use it to go back; maybe they destroy the mind flayer before it evens gets going and like in the butterfly effect, it creates a different path for them all. The teacher talked about the amount of energy needed to create a wormhole which I think is important too. And the shape of the wormhole in the lesson and wills drawing are similar.

DallasMajor · 05/12/2025 12:07

destroy the mind flayer before it evens gets going and like in the butterfly effect, it creates a different path for them all.

This might not be very satisfactory for views though - Johnathon would not have got with Nancy, Hoppers daughter would still have died and he probably would have overdosed/been sacked. Lucas would have gone off with the jocks, Mike would be even less interesting and loveless etc

Justcantwin89 · 05/12/2025 12:10

My 24 and 16 year old loves the show so its nice to have something in common.
I've watched it from the start with my oldest and my 16 year old has just joined us.

Im not sure on the time travel though, I think the wormhole in this situation is about demension x being able to break into Hawkins and the world.
But I get where your coming from @Applesontoast

Thats why I love this show and having to wait a bit, all these theories and using our imaginations.
Nice break from reality 😀

Im also wondering if Vecna is the real hero in the end, that he is able to fight back on the Mind flayer?
A bit like Billy in season 3.

As I think he was used like the other children are being practically used now.

Also Brenners Dad being patient 0 so to speak (if you have watched the live play) as Herny is number 001.
Just thoughts lol.

Justcantwin89 · 05/12/2025 13:41

Yeah it’s not an outcome I’d like either. Mike would never meet eleven. I just think something might happen with time travel

I also wonder if vecna might come good- the scared Henry part of him might sacrifice himself or something to save the others and defeat the mind flayer. Might be a neither can live while the other survives situation with him and will.

just musing really on possibilities.

Daytimetellyqueen · 05/12/2025 15:15

I’m loving all the musings!
