With Tom Daley who annoys me but I like that it’s proper knitting not dumbed down and they’re starting with a fairisle tank top

I am here! Lifelong knitter.

I like the Fair Isle style and a tank top is a good challenge. I am not a fan of chunky knit, much nicer done in 4ply but they need to fit it into the time allocated.

Seems to be a good mix of contestants so far.

But what is Tom wearing?

People who can knit: is 12 hours a fair amount of time? I get annoyed when no-one finishes properly because they're in a huge rush.

It looks like one of those sample pieces where you try out cable and rib and get it wrong.

I love Tom and in total awe of his outfits. They're somerhing else! Amazing.

No, not for a whole jumper. That's why they are using very thick yarn and big chunky needles.

I love knitting (I’m working on some now) but I can’t imagine watching other people knit makes for interesting tv! I’ll catch up on it tomorrow 😄

We’ve been looking forward to this too, I can do very basic knitting very very slowly. We’re happy to see Tom too, when he lived in London he babysat for us a few times, sadly the kids didn’t come home with a nice jumper.

Turned over after 10 mins sorry. What actually is the point? Knitting with massive needles to creat an ugly garment that no one would want to wear. To me knitting is the very antithesis of fast fashion and that is it's beauty. It's about taking time to create a beautiful garment and enjoying the mindful nature of the process. Why does everything have to be reduced to a competition?

They did well to get that much done in the time. I love the German guy and Ailsa

Knitting is not a team sport. Pleased the sewing Bee doesn’t include compulsory team sport sewing. What’s wrong with being an introvert?

Quirky men? Not sure what that's supposed to mean but okay...

On forged in fire (like bake off for knives!) they get to go home and create something within a week! I'd love to see what they could do by with more time.

The main demographic who knit are women in their 50s. When i went to the knitting and sewing show they converted the mens toilets into womens because so few men attend.

My husband knits and sews 🤷🏼 He's telling me what the terms mean!

It’s like sewing bee. They try to be inclusive and so exclude the demographic most likely to see. TV doesn’t like showing lots of middle aged and elderly women

I totally get why they are using super chunky yarn but it's really not my thing - I'm with the German guy on that one. My current project is a 4ply shawl/wrap thing, after that I'm making a vest/tank top using DK. I actively avoid using anything thicker than aran weight.

Maybe in future eps they will do smaller projects like a beanie, mitts, a cowl, socks (or single sock) using finer yarn.
