With Tom Daley who annoys me but I like that it’s proper knitting not dumbed down and they’re starting with a fairisle tank top

I think Tom Daley is part of the problem with this programme, in that he just doesn't seem to relate to the contestants and judges in the relaxed way that the presenters do on programmes like Bake-Off and the Sewing Bee.

I agree.

I was concerned when he rushed to hug the contestant leaving this week and she had to stand up without her stick. I hope he gave her enough support to get up and that she was okay. It was nice to see whoever she was sitting beside immediately grab the stick ready to give to her.

Maybe I’m biased because I have never knitted or crocheted anything small and decorative, other than a fairy for the top of our Christmas tree (she’s a bit of a fright and looks as though she’s had lip fillers🤣) but I hated that food knitting thing. I thought Holger’s was fabulous because of the extra thought he put into the presentation, but I fast forwarded through most of it. So flipping pointless. But that’s a very personal opinion due to my preference for making practical things like cardigans, jumpers, blankets, hats, tea cosies etc.

I loved the cardigan challenge though. I would have preferred it if everyone made their own, but hey ho you can’t have everything!

I know crocheted food is a Thing, but when I come across patterns for crocheted veg in magazines etc I always seriously question who the hell ever makes them. I've certainly never come across anyone who does. All the talk about textures making the food look real - face it, none of it actually did look real, did it? If they wanted to do amigurumi, I'm a bit surprised they didn't go for something like toys or jewellery or Christmas decorations.

Still, the lace challenge next week looks promising.

I made a few bits of crochet food as toys for the kids when they were little, but other than as playing shop/tea parties what would the point of fake food be?

Oh I've just remembered I did a bowl of amigarumi sprouts one Christmas too. They were numbered and everyone had to pick one which then match them up with a small numbered gift. It was an alternative to crackers that year.

Tom looks like Jake Shears has thrown up all over him

Excellent comment. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

I made knitted "afternoon tea" items for DD when she was little and going through a tea party phase. Jean Greenhowe patterns - dead easy - lots of sandwiches and swiss rolls and slices of cake. None looked particularly realistic though and I don't think anyone expects them to be. Yarn is never going to look realistic in the way that some people make those ultra-realistic cakes.

Love the amiguramu sprout idea

Not sure which is hurting my eyes most, the pink hairpiece or the see through macrame mirrored jumper!

The pink hairpiece for sure!

Did I just hear Temu Disco Ball Boy say 'Our beautiful vajazzelled judges'?

BishyBarnyBee · 07/12/2025 21:00

I really liked Isaac's daisy necklace, they were very dismissive but I could imagine it selling well.

I thought that too!

Pleased they are talking more about the knitting. Watching on catch up. Holga’s sounds the worst

This is the most technical week yet. The second challenge is tough.

Didn't realise Tom's trousers matched the top until he sat down. Ew!

I love Ailsa’s. The metal necklace would hurt

Aw. What a very lovely person this week's loser is. I loved the way they showed the support this week. The winner dodged a bullet though I agree their jewellery was spectacular.

2Rebecca · 07/12/2025 21:50

Loved the “ I’m not dead” at first he end

I too thought they were very dismissive of it. It was lovely.

deeahgwitch · 09/12/2025 18:54

They were also dismissive of the metal work - the Viking.
It was a great idea and well executed.
The judges aren’t very nice, are they.
And all that silly crying. 🙄

BishyBarnyBee · 14/12/2025 20:27

Anyone watching live? Holger's fashion experience definitely helped with that first task but Lydia isn't letting him have all the credit!

2Rebecca · 14/12/2025 20:50

Watching on catch up after strictly but the knitwear the 3 presenters are wearing is awful and that Arran jumper is more beautiful than their clothes. They are taking the worst aspects of sewing bee( take something nice and make something unwearable). Can’t they transform shapeless chunky plain jumpers?

OP posts:
2Rebecca · 14/12/2025 21:03

I love Ailsa and think Lydia is sensible not clashing antlers with Holger. Knitwear by committee will be bland. I hate puff sleeves though and preferred the other 2s vision but wasn’t lkeen on all the tiers

I do think the women do worse in team challenges as we are less assertive and confrontational

My sister in law crocheted me a beautiful bag. Why can’t they just make one rather than make it from naff stuff

Isaac is very creative. I am surprised each week at how good he is

OP posts:
SheinIsShite · 15/12/2025 09:40

I am just catching up as missed it last night.

I think the repurposing task is giving a different slant on knitting, didn't object to it too much. There is lots of discussion on social media about reusing old jumpers and knitted items but mainly around unravelling the yarn and reusing it to knit a whole new item, not adapting a knitted item.

I also thought the criticism of Ailsa and Isaac's dress with the very visible pink stitching was a bit much as that is very Hope Macaulay, and Tom has worn a cardigan with visible stitching on the show.
