Vicky Pattinson - Strictly

Watching on catch up. Always felt a bit conflicted with her, she seems nice enough now but I’ve seen a lot of videos of her behaving utterly horribly in Geordie Shore. Really nasty, bullying behaviour. I know she was a lot younger but can people really change that much? Just saw her angry face when she got criticised on Strictly and thought hmm she’s still got that side to her.

Amazes me how some people can totally excel in their careers after behaving appallingly (Peter Andre is another) whereas others get cancelled forever.

I thought she was desperately trying not to start crying. However I haven’t seen her in anything before so I don’t have any preconceived ideas about her.

StrictlySequinsandStiIettos · 11/10/2025 21:36

In fairness, she said just the other week she was pleased that she could do Strictly and make her parents proud as her earlier career hadn't - I assumed she was referring to GS.
Peter Andre has been on camera in his youth making some disparaging comments but Kate often gave as good as she got. He has nonetheless been there for his kids, providing a stable home.
Celebs aren't Gods or infallible. They all have shaky histories, warts and all. Not sure how you'd fare under scrutiny OP but I'd probably be subject to huge criticism.

thewalrus3 · 11/10/2025 21:36

She has alluded to her ‘early career’ on strictly and said she did things she wasn’t proud of. I get it, we all probably did silly things when we were young but she was spectacularly cruel to other women and her and her then boyfriend used to fight etc.

Just not sure how she has been able to completely reinvent herself.

JustJani · 11/10/2025 21:38

I don't know about the old videos, I haven't seen them. I quite like her because she's been quite honest about her own failings and her dad's alcoholism when she could have gone down the route of having a flawless Instagram account and pretending she's living the dream life instead (like Maura for example). She's talked about being a nasty drunk on Geordie Shore in interviews.

pizzaHeart · 11/10/2025 21:41

I don’t know details about her previous career or anything but when I’m holding tears I’m always coming across as angry. DH is with me for nearly 30 years and he still does this mistake regularly - he thinks I’m cross/ angry or similar when I’m absolutely not but just trying not to cry.
I thought that she was holding tears.

FredaFox · 11/10/2025 21:50

I watched georgie shore back in the day though not religiously. Her behaviour was awful. Aggressive, bully, lots of rage. She has grown up I think but I’ve read nasty things over the years so don’t think she’s fully got rid of the anger. Recently she was working on one of those travel mlms, but like a pyramid scheme, seen negative comments about it.

thewalrus3 · 11/10/2025 22:06

By no means was I an angel in my youth, I was terrible at times. Not aggressive in the way she was but still lots of questionable behaviour. But I do think it’s insane how it was all so publicised and she’s essentially been able to forget it and become a wholesome household name. Jamie Borthwick has been axed from the Strictly tour for use of vile, ableist language (rightly so) but Vicky regularly called other women names like ‘fat slag’ and is now viewed totally differently.

Never seen Geordie Shore but heard her on the How To Fail podcast recently and thought she sounded extremely fragile and vulnerable. She did say that she was ashamed of her previous behavior. She was clearly struggling with some (entirely justified) less than glowing feedback on Strictly tonight

Denim4ever · 11/10/2025 22:19

The way she was going on about Cynthia Erivo was a bit cringe/ott. Whilst it's nice to appreciate someone it's not good to go too ott

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 11/10/2025 22:22

Am I the only person who has never heard of Cynthia Erivo?

Well, quite possibly, yes😁

Nope. No idea who she is.

No, me too.

SepticPegsSepticLeg · 11/10/2025 22:51

Oh, just googled. She played the wicked witch of the West in the wicked movie apparently.

What's that got to do with strictly?

Wow, is there something wrong with your comprehension skills? She's won an Emmy, a Tony and a Grammy award and been nominated for an Oscar twice. She's one of the greats!

Not sure what the deal is with the snippy comments about CE on here, if you haven't heard of her that speaks to your lack of cultural engagement, it's nothing to boast of.

Restlessinthenorth · 11/10/2025 22:56

I find her totally disingenuous, however much I'd like to warm to her. And as a northerner, I really would like to. However I find the few heavily posed photos of how "normal" she is on social media massively at odds with the many highly edited, styled photos that make up the bulk of her content. She lives in a different world now. She needs to own that. I find the twee "I'm just a poor geordie lass at heart" incredibly patronising

No problem with CE, although DS repeatedly listening to Defying Gravity for GCSE Music might have made me avoid the film and stage franchise since then. I simply felt Vicky Pattinson went on a bit too much in a gushing kinda way.

That's fair enough, I'm just surprised at people who have never heard of her, I would have thought over exposure would be a more likely issue!

I’m surprised you managed to type all of that with your head so far up Cynthia’s arse.

abracadabra1980 · 11/10/2025 23:11

Can’t stand her ‘rough as a badger’ Geordie accent. I’m from the North east and there are some lovely northern accents but hers isn’t one of them. How she gets a radio gig is beyond me. I don’t watch Strictly.

Wow - take a look at yourself

NewGirlInTown · 11/10/2025 23:12

I was astonished to see her cast in Strictly given her issues with drugs- heavily reported upon, particularly cocaine. Her ‘gurning’ faces often commented upon as caused by the drug.
She is clearly attempting to rehabilitate her image but as a PP said, the anger remains just below the surface.

God forbid we big up an amazingly successful and talented woman of colour on Mumsnet I guess

thewalrus3 · 11/10/2025 23:15

I remember when a new girl entered the Geordie shore house and she was just needlessly vile to her from the off, just because she was an attractive female. Probably says something about me that I even watched the tosh to be honest and I realise a lot of it was heavily edited. But there’s just no escaping the level of nastiness she showed to other people in the show.
And I agree the ‘normal geordie lass’ along with the endless ‘banter’ doesn’t seem genuine to me. She wants to be liked which is understandable, I just find it amazing that people have totally forgotten her past.

Edited

I’m not sure that people have forgotten her past, more that they didn’t know about it. I’ve never seen Geordie Shore so am only really vaguely aware of her as an influencer/reality TV circuit type person. A lot of people just won’t be aware of her behaviour when younger.
