I have seen it, but a loooong time ago. I find it hard to believe that many of the contestants will even have heard of it, never mind seen it and remember the key locations.

If they've been to Rome, they will certainly know about it. It's quite famous on social media. Daren might know.

It's been ages since I've watched it too. I do like Gregory Peck and Audrey Hepburn.

bizzey · 22/08/2025 21:39

Darnell will have at least heard of it as he knew SOM .

bizzey · 22/08/2025 21:47

Gahh ..sos sorry ...ds interrupted me and it was to late to check and edit !

Obviously..Darnell was not involved in the discussion.

But DAREN (Darren ..I am use to a double r spelling !) was the contestant !

NCTDN · 22/08/2025 21:49

I’ve never seen Roman holiday either

bizzey · 22/08/2025 23:30

Looks like we are all in a Roman Holiday this weekend !! 😅

msbevvy · 23/08/2025 00:03

Didn't one of the tasks involve recieving 3 coins? Three Coins in the Fountain maybe?
The Trevi fountain in Rome is one of the locations in Roman Holiday.

bizzey · 23/08/2025 00:08

That lost a coin for a wrong answer .

InMyOpenOnion · 23/08/2025 02:10

Checking in. Can't believe it finishes next week! I have quite enjoyed the twice weekly format - it might have dragged a bit over 8 weeks. I agree that Josh or Saskia would be unpopular winners and might affect viewing figures for the next series. I don't like either of them and would feel a bit flat if one of them won.

There was also at least one clue to the Spanish Steps

The Rome ending would also work with placing the X exactly. They would have to be at the correct landmark, and there are loads of famous ones in Rome.

But it might make for a boring episode 7 as it is not that far from Pisa to Rome. Plus it would make the series rather Italy - heavy. Shame they would have done loads of Italy but no Belgium, Netherlands, Denmark or Spain.

champagnetrial · 23/08/2025 08:34

I agree about the Saskia comments. How did she pull Pisa out from just the balancing clues? And the colosseum in Pula? 'Oh yeah, I think I saw one there once' kind of thing.

It made me think about how they film and the editing process. I can't believe thet are travelling as they are doing all those discussions in the bus as there is no movement or swaying, no engine noise. It feels like they are in a studio, tbh. So do they just stop the bus for a large chunk of time and keep the cameras rolling? I wonder if they do most of their travelling at night and film the conversations in the day.

Also, for a 'high-budget show, which was shot over 32 days, requiring 190 crew members needing 7,000 hotel rooms across 30 hotels, as they travelled 11,000 km through Europe with more than 40 vehicles, Rob said it was like nothing he’d done before.'( quote from a news article) the show feels very insular and kind of low budget!

And another also (and this has probably been discussed before so apologies!) I read that if they want to do a poo, there are 2 portaloos travelling in a backup car, and they have to be blindfolded, escorted off the bus, a producer waits outside the loo for them to finish, then they are escorted back on. Of all the reality game shows to apply for, I think this would be bottom (no pun intended) of my wish list!

Agree. I've only dipped in and out of this, but whenever I see them in the bus it feels false to me too, like they're in a studio mock-up. It seems quite unbelievable that they would be in such a confined space, with just those seats, and no windows, for such a long period of time.

ChompandaGrazia · 23/08/2025 09:55

You wouldn’t hear the engine noise. The microphones they have are amazing and will only really pick up their voices. DH does sound recording and has lapel mics and they are very directional.

They all have seat belts on when sat down. You see the direction of the sun etc. Also, they have to get them all there somehow, so how else are they getting there if not on the bus.

I do think that some stuff, like the losing person getting off the bus, is shot after the fact. And I do wonder if they might stay in hotels some nights rather than on the bus.

NCTDN · 23/08/2025 09:57

On the last episode, rob said they were 3 weeks in. If it was shot over 32 days, I think they must spend a few nights at each destination in a hotel before continuing. That way they would know exactly where they were?

BestIsWest · 23/08/2025 10:12

Just looked for Roman Holiday. It seems to be only on YouTube for free unless you want to pay to rent it. Unless anyone else has found it? It’s years since I’ve seen it so can’t remember much.

The journey they've done is definitely not 3 weeks of travelling time. Even with time out for the activities!

It would be interesting to see the schedule of what they've done

11,000 km!

That number seems much much higher than the journey they've taken

placemats · 23/08/2025 10:27

The BBC may well put it on iPlayer after the series ends. There's some fantastic films to watch at the moment. Revisited Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid recently. @BestIsWest

Was there? I don’t remember that - what was it?

At the lake where they were building the stone towers Josh got a clue which was a scroll with the numbers 4 1 3 6 printed vertically on it. That wasn’t mentioned by Rob at the end as linking to Pisa so what was that about? Just a red herring or something related to the final destination?

Choux · 23/08/2025 10:48

In Episode 1 they filmed to camera pieces in this room. The posters behind them include the Eiffel Tower and a coliseum which looks more like Rome than Pula as Rome’s is more ruined than Pula’s.

I can’t read the writing on the far left poster. Does it say Germany? If so the posters could have been a clue: start in Germany, first stop Eiffel Tower then gap, gap, gap etc till the final stop of Rome’s Coliseum.

With the loo issue are there loos on the bus only for NO1 s then. Is there showers.

they must get a chance to exercise

Choux · 23/08/2025 11:00

Oh I found the Spanish Steps clue in my photos from what was in the box in Episode 1. Perhaps that is the final destination?

I feel like we will get a debrief at the end from Rob of how clues about the final destination were hidden in every episode.

I do think that Nick had just had enough especially if he was used to exercising a lot and just pretended he couldn’t find Pula.

I know they’ve not travelled that much, which is why I think they stop at each destination for a few days.

the80sweregreat · 23/08/2025 11:16

That map room would make me anxious. I’m not good at maps and they don’t make it easy.
