We have this talk that women are happy to play 5 sets, yet no one has done a test tournament for it, so they don't actually believe in it.

Who is “they” in this instance?

Raahh · 13/07/2025 11:31

Watching Alfie in the wheelchair singles final
Early days, is going with series.

Quad singles finals also happening.

Good turnout again for this final, considering the time.

Yes, I'm hoping for a good match!

Raahh · 13/07/2025 11:46

Good first set. Come on Alfie!

You just get what you’re given basically - if it’s a date/price that you’re not happy with you can return the tickets but then I don’t think you get another chance for other tickets

I joined the LTA last year (just over £20 a year I think) and got tickets through them. I chose court 3 in the first week which was good value - I think you can only get centre and no 1 court tickets through the Wimbledon ballot though

Thank you! I’m a member of the LTA, only recently though for the summer kids clubs. How do tickets through them work?

Fizzywinegum · 13/07/2025 12:02

I’m not really sure BakeOffRewatch Grin - I think I applied through the ballot via the LTA - I didn’t think that I’d been successful but then I just got an email from them offering me resale tickets which seemed to cover centre, and courts 1, 2 and 3 so I snapped some up

The LTA aren’t great at communicating so I’m not really sure what the actual process is

You can register your interest or find out further info about the Wimbledon ballot on Wimbledon.com - the rules about transferring tickets etc are quite strict

Raahh · 13/07/2025 12:08

I've just seen that Barbora Strykova is in the invitational doubles final- it's only 2 years since she was in the actual women's doubles final (and won it ) with Hsieh Su-wei. Who is in the women's doubles final herself later- with Jelena Ostapenko Grin. .

Come on Alfie!

Foolsgold74 · 13/07/2025 09:49

You've convinced yourself that 5 is better than 3 simply because it's men. It could quite easily be the other way round. 3 sets for men because of the huge amount of power and force expended and 5 for women because it's a slower pace. If that were the case, you'd still be arguing that the men's game was better and inherently worth more.

I haven’t convinced myself of anything. I’m not that much of a tennis fan apart from Wimbledon that I can take or leave and my question was based on things I’d read on this thread.

Are you aware of how ridiculous your comments regarding what you think I’ve convinced myself of, along with ‘what I’d still be arguing’ make you look - when I haven’t argued about anything to begin with.

Raahh · 13/07/2025 12:45

Oof- come on Alfie!!

Fizzywinegum · 13/07/2025 12:46

One set all now in the men’s wheelchair final

Raahh · 13/07/2025 13:05

Oh, slipping away from Alfie now.

Come on!

Women's doubles has started- so flipping between the two.

I was offered tickets to today in the ballot, I refused as they were £300 each. I definitely made the correct decision.

I just can't see how Wimbledon can justify £300 for the women's final and £300 for the men's any more. They need to reduce the price for today.

Well, the tickets - even for the finals - are much cheaper than other, similar status sporting events. Plus you get doubles finals, & matches on outside courts from 11am.
But sport is unpredictable. Either player could have had a match-ending injury in the first game and that would have been it. With sport, you pay your money and take your chance. .. sometimes you get a multiple set thriller, after all.

JaneJeffer · 13/07/2025 13:17

Alfie is battling hard

Everlore · 13/07/2025 13:21

My husband is a huge tennis fan, it's the only sport he cares about and he is very passionate about it so has naturally been glued to Wimbledon for the last couple of years. He has always prefered the women's game, he says he just finds it more exciting to watch, though he's recently taken a shine to Alcaraz so the men's game now holds more interest for him.
This year's Wimbledon has been something of an emotional roller coaster for him. Iga was his long-time favourite, his enjoyment of every tennis tournament was largely predicated on her performance in said tournament. If she won he would be jubilant but whenever she lost he'd declare tennis to be dead! He lost faith in her after the debacle of last year's Olympic tennis and vowed not to have favourites any more since they apparently only break your heart! He claimed to be philosophical about her poor showing at this year's French Open, though I'm not sure if that was true, and he was trying to be casual about how well she was doing at Wimbledon this year, but I could tell he was secretly thrilled when she won yesterday! Not sure if he's ready to admit to being an Iga super-fan again yet, maybe if she wins the US Open!

Raahh · 13/07/2025 13:21

he is- Oda is so good- but Alfie is not going down without a fight.

Can I ask what happens with pricing for the ballot? Can you choose what pricing bracket you want to be in the ballot for? I want to enter it this year and hopefully take my kids next year, but there’s no way I’d be spending £1200 on tickets! No matter the match length 😁

You are offered a set day, coury & price, and there's no choice. Plus it is a maximum of 2 tickets per household.
You can attempt to buy resale tickets, where you can choose the day and court, but they are fiendishly difficult to get, and still a maximum of two (but only if you haven't refused any original ballot offer).
So take your kids in the wonderful Queue.... you can all go, and it's only £30 each for Grounds Passes, as well as a fantastic experience.

BakeOffRewatch · 13/07/2025 13:21

What are people’s thoughts for the Men’s singles final this afternoon? I think that will be one-sided too. Alcaraz is on fire, and Sinner is injured.

Thank you @Fizzywinegum , I’ve signed up to all the newsletters, hope it’ll become clear nearer the time. I don’t think this thread will fill up by tonight, so if others post when it opens or anything else that comes up I’d be really grateful. I’m new to attending tennis matches, someone suggested other London tennis matches but I am not sure how it works. I’m a bit reluctant after the spectators fainting of this week to take the kids to Wimbledon now anyway. It would be a long slog.

Raahh · 13/07/2025 13:22

The men’s game can go to 5 sets whereas the women’s game only goes to 3. Why would they be paid the same?

Should Mo Farah be paid multiple times more than Usain Bolt because Mo ran 10,000 metres whereas Usain "only" ran 100 metres? No, of course not. They are paid for all the hours, days, weeks, months of work and training, which is the same for all. The time spent on track/court is only the tiniest part of the whole thing.

You can get CC, 1, 2 and 3 tickets thru both ballots - Wimby and LTA. But none for 2 and 3 are sold at the tail end of week 2, as they become unreserved seating.

Raahh · 13/07/2025 13:26

Alfie is fighting hard.

But that was a sneakt shot from Oda.

What is this nonsense? Steffi and Serena only ever played each other twice. Steffi won the first in 3 sets and Serena won the 2nd, also in 3 sets.

And if you think Serena and Sabalenka only rely on power, you know zilch about tennis.

I’m glad you said something @MissAnthr0pe 😂Couldn’t believe my eyes reading “easy wins” to describe Serena Williams career. Staying at the top of your game as you get older is definitely not easy. Never mind the comparison of physiques in those posts. You can see the double standards applied.

Thank you to everyone who has described the ticket process. I think I will enter, set my expectations and take the kids for the Wimbledon museum and 90min grounds tour. They are very young so maybe attending a day is something for when they are teens. No way am I queueing with a toddler next summer!
