I saw someone elsewhere say he should have retired on a high after the Olympics and I agree

I always felt that Roger should have retired after the 2019 final- because he was never really the same after that .

Djok really wanted the Olympic gold-and it would have been a good time to stop- he has not been the same since.

I wish Rafa had known to retire with Roger at the 02- but the start of 2022 had been so good Sad.

It’s his ego.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 11/07/2025 20:13

Though Murray didn’t accept he needed to retire either!

It's a permanent change. It's to do with the scheduling of the doubles finals (which are usually after the singles finals and spectators often leave before them).

That's the official line. Really, it's probably to do with international broadcasters- 4pm is a better time for US broadcasters, for example. And money.

I am sure on Wimbledon Today ealier this week, they mentioned the schedule change was due international broadcasters, in particular US broadcasters wanting prime times to broadcast. Cynically, I am sure money is also involved in the decision 🎾🎾

Oh, he dragged it out for far too long.

Yes- no-one really believes the 'doubles final' thing.

Also , I think it's a step closer to the BBC losing the rights to broadcasting Wimbledon altogether (TNT are already showing the final- as well as the BBC).

It's bound to happen sooner rather than later, sadly. Money talks and tradition counts for very little these days.

But it’s very difficult to know what was your peak until you are past it. And if semifinal at Wimbledon does turn out to be his last game here, that’s pretty impressive still (looking at you, Kvitova, in on a wild card and out in the first round)

Kvitova is a different case. She has already announced her retirement, and was the only foreign female player given a wild card due being a previous 2 time champion.

True… but by the sentiment of “should have stopped at their peak” - why did she come back at all when definitely past hers?

Raahh · 11/07/2025 20:54

Because accepting a WC as part of a retirement tour is a bit different to blindly accepting them when really, you just can't play. And there are players who have done that.

SheilaFentiman · 11/07/2025 21:04

Maybe - I don’t know who you are thinking of. But Djokovic reaching the semifinals of a grand slam in which he was seeded six certainly wouldn’t fall under can’t play, and no one is obliged to determine their peak and retire (though I think Sampras did!)

Happy to agree to differ.

magimedi · 11/07/2025 21:05

Late to the party - time difference, loooking after DGC..............

Andrew Castle...................

THE photo................................

magimedi · 11/07/2025 21:08

Has been deleted permanently from my files - what a wanker he is.

And how lovely to hear Agassi so subtly put him in place.

And bye bye Djock - time to retire.

Sinner & Swiantek to win!

A bientot!

I thought we were talking about WCs? Djok didn't have one.

Andy Murray, on the other hand, he has a record number of WCs - and lost early every time (or he wouldn't have needed them).

@magimedi AWFUL behaviour from Castle today. Embarrassing for him and his barely there career to address a champion like that

He does it all the time. He has a habit of thinking he is best mates with them all. AC is nobody in the tennis scheme of things - really after the past week, the BBC need to stop using him.

OP posts:
Hobnobswantshernameback · 11/07/2025 21:18

What did AC the wanker do?
I have been out enjoying a day at the sea so have missed all tge tennis and now trying to catch up

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 11/07/2025 21:20

@Hobnobswantshernameback So…Andre…how does it feel not to be number 1 in your own house?

Raahh · 11/07/2025 21:26

Andrew kept mentioning all the people in the Royal Box, and waffling about clebs and gossip- who Andre wasn't interested in, and only wanted to talk about the tennis. He kept persisting in 'testing' him on it.
Andre got really annoyed at one point and said- people are wating for the tennis and not this.
Also Andre's family, which he shut down.

A pp seemed to think it was Andre who was talking too much- honestly- he wasnt talking enough To drown out AC.

Yes- he kept trying to work out the number of slams Steffi had versus Andre- dick. Like Andre cares.

OP posts:
Hobnobswantshernameback · 11/07/2025 21:29

I will never understand why the BBC trot that odious wanker out every year
he and gregg Wallace were my biggest irritants on tv
hey ho
one down one to go

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 11/07/2025 21:30

@Raahh It’s the casual misogyny - a woman shouldn’t outrank her husband!

Hobnobswantshernameback · 11/07/2025 21:30

And I suspect plenty of the other pundits particularly ex players would actively refuse to work with him

kazzaD66 · 11/07/2025 22:43

Thank f# for that magi Grin
Trust* *all good with you.

Looking forward to the final on Sunday.
Not looking forward to the fuckwit who will no doubt be the lead commentator Angry

RaraRachael · 11/07/2025 23:15

Checking in. I must admit my heart sank when Djokovic alluded to being back next year. The chances of him winning another Wimbledon are virtually zero so why do it? It's not like he needs the money.
