With only five posts left on the old thread, thought I'd start this so we can link between the two.

This thread carries on from the first:

Sweet touch to Sam Gardiner . Well done production team for putting it there.

It's made me well up

I don’t have a sob story so I know I’d never be picked.

They can turn anything in to a sob story. Apparently 'i haven't had to work for 20 years' is a sob story and 'we gree up in Wales and haven't been anywhere else' 😂

“Apparently’I haven’t had to work for 20 years’ is a sob story”

In that case I’m going with “I’ve had to work for 20 years and I’m tired” 😂

We said that. "I've brought up 3 children on a council estate and worked full time. I'd like to do something for me". I'd have more sympathy with that.

Cardinalita90 · 04/06/2025 22:06

Oh no! Gutted for the brothers. I think Caroline and Tom will win this now, the brothers were their only real competition.

It was nice to see moments reminiscent of the early series where we see the teams enjoying local cities between connections instead of always doing experiences/homestays.

I think they said it was about £11 for the tea serving.
The ferry was only 4 hours so they wouldn't have accommodation.

Edited

Thanks must admit I was on my phone too as it’s not very interesting this time. I heard they were offered business or sleeper on the ferry so assumed it was a cabin. Very surprised if the locals get £11 for that work.

paranoiaofpufflings · 04/06/2025 22:06

@LuckysDadsHatI spent three months in India and didn’t get the 💩 at all!

Mynewnameis · 04/06/2025 22:08

Have donated in memory of Sam.

The scenery was beautiful today and this part of India seemed affluent and appealing.
There seems to me less money worries and more information available to them. They definitely aren't struggling as much as on other series.

I'm amazed! I have always avoided as it really scares me after literally probably 15-18 friends have gone at different times and all got the shits! I couldn't cope with that and not being able to find decent toilets.

Growlling · 04/06/2025 22:11

I can’t take anything Caroline says seriously. She’s such a fake.

paranoiaofpufflings · 04/06/2025 22:12

I don’t understand what happened on this weeks travel which is why it’s annoying to not see more detail.
When Brian and Melvin got the boat and we were shown a map, they had a significant lead, they looked a day ahead of everyone. Where was the delay for them? Was it because they stopped to work? Fin and Sioned stopped to work too, and they and Caroline and Tom had to wait overnight for their train/bus journeys. So how did everyone skip so far ahead of the brothers.

Production team - I need journey details! Not just arrival at the book.

Maybe I’m just too nerdy about this because I love cheap random travel, but I actually wish they uploaded extra info to the bbc page or wherever, with budget breakdowns, accommodation details, earnings from what work, what the journey methods and times were.

Totally!

Umbilicat · 04/06/2025 22:15

Agreed I’d love proper breakdowns of everyone’s routes - timings and costs. No detail too small.

I’ve been to India twice with no Delhi belly. Just avoid meat and you should be OK

TwentyKittens · 04/06/2025 22:16

I think the brothers must have faffed about a bit at the vineyard. They had a good lead with the ferry as everyone else was still on the peninsula when they were getting off the ferry and making their was south!

They used to be much better at showing where the contestants were against each other on map. Really dummed it down now

And yes, bbc cut the back stories down by at least 50%

paranoiaofpufflings · 04/06/2025 22:18

@LuckysDadsHat I’m vegetarian which probably helps when it comes to less dodgy food. Beyond that, eat where the locals eat, drink bottled water. Toilets can be far from luxury but as a tourist you’ll always find one. I wouldn’t let that put you off going if the country appeals. It’s an incredible place to visit, so varied, so beautiful, so welcoming.

advantagelove · 04/06/2025 22:18

Everyone I know who has been to India got the shits at some point!

My Delhi belly got out of hand and I was put on a drip in my guest house! Still don't know what caused it as hadn't eaten meat, only bottled water etc, really careful. Watching them eat street food and accepting food off strangers (kind but...) made me wonder if they were chancing it. Brian still looks hollowed out!

Does any one else find it very annoying how Thomas's mum keeps saying Thomas every time she talks to him.

It’s his Sunday name.

My MIL does it to both DH and the kids.

billycat321 · 04/06/2025 22:25

Is there a camera crew with each pair? And where do they leave their rucksacks when going off sightseeing?

I’m fascinated by Melvyn’s suitcase, which seems to randomly appear and disappear.

I’m hoping the brothers or Fin and Sioned can make up the time. I’d be happy for Tom to win but not keen on Caroline and the sisters are irritating me.

PuppyMonkey · 04/06/2025 22:41

Gutted at Brian and Melv coming last. It wasn’t made very clear that they were taking a much slower route compared to the others going through Mumbai. That map thing seemed to show them in front a lot of the time. Very confusing.

Scimitarsandstars · 04/06/2025 22:44

Gutted for the brothers - hope they can do something superhuman in the next episode and win. I guess it was the stopover at the vineyard and bus travel, not trains, that slowed them? But there's not enough detail shared to know - the maps only had 2 couples on at a time at one point.

Failing the brothers winning, rooting for Fin and Sioned who have now hit their stride.

Lockers in train stations or hotels.

Yes one camera crew per paid, they showed some of how the filming was done at the end of the last series I think

popcornpower2025 · 04/06/2025 22:46

Sorry that was for whoever asked about where they leave their bags

Lovemycat2023 · 04/06/2025 22:51

Tom and Caroline really gambled on the train. It paid off but if it hadn’t they would have come last this leg I’m sure. Still all to play for!

Puffalicious · 04/06/2025 22:53

I've just found this thread! RATW is one of my favourite things on TV
Last year was particularly special as I'd been to so many of the places. It was a trip down memory lane to my own youthful travels.

This year is great for DC1 & 2 as their dad (ex-H) took them travelling in India for a month last June. He'd been traveling as a youngster & always wanted to take the boys. They absolutely loved it. DC1 continued around SE Asia for a few months, he's seasoned, but it had the biggest impact on DC2 who was only 17 and a half. He's watching RATW with me & reliving it all- bless.

So want a miracle for the brothers to win. 🙏
