With only five posts left on the old thread, thought I'd start this so we can link between the two.

This thread carries on from the first:

I won’t be happy if Caroline and Tom win, after all the deception.

Gundogday · 05/06/2025 10:14

I do get what people ate saying about Caroline, that she’s not just a housewife, but I have seen a change in her. She seems a lot freer and relaxed, and less uptight. I think, along with the brothers, she has embraced the experiences the most.

(and is it them who’s led the deception, or the producers and editing?)

I don't believe a woman of her generation (10 years younger then me) was forced to stay at home and do nothing especially as her children were at boarding school. Fair enough she didn't have to do paid work but there are plenty of other things she could have done and THEN information comes to light that she keeps horses and has been very successful in the eventing word so it wasn't true any way. She seems to imply her husband kept her tied to the house, if that was true then coercive control is a matter for the police. Of course, I don't believe that is the case at all.

She has exaggerated her story for effect and there are plenty of women who have had a much more difficult time than her and are more deserving if sympathy.

That's why I don't like her

Tbh I think all their stories are exaggerated . Perhaps not by them but in the editing process. Surely it’s not all they are talking about along the way but that’s exactly what it seems like.

Edited

I agree.
Im enjoying the change in them. Although I’d have to put Sionedd into that category too. Last nights episode saw an awakening in her I think

I think someone on this thread it another said that the young couple it at least the girl had travelled abroad before.

It was on Yahoo.
But it said they went to Australia ( or poss NewZealand) after RATW

Caroline Bridge is a seasoned horsemanship professional with extensive experience in both dressage and eventing. She has successfully trained horses to the Grand Prix level in dressage and has also been involved in the training and selection of top-level eventers. Notably, she helped source and train Sharon Hunt's 2008 Olympic ride, Tankers Town, according to Horse & Hound magazine. She also participated in the BBC's "Race Across the World" with her son, Tom, and won the 2024 British Eventing BE80 league, according to Horse & Hound.

Yes. That was my point.

But Caroline is always saying it. Editing might play a part but she says what she says.

I agree.
Its all we’re hearing but like others say I think a lot is edited out

( of note I always get the urge to stand on a chair when I see your posts 😀)

I've been a bit annoyed with Caroline after all her I'm just a housewife stuff.

She did say right at the start that her husband wanted her to stay at home and not work. And as he's a successful man I expect she did all the background work that enabled him to be one. Whatever age she is, there are still marriages like that.

Tom went to private school, and seems to be her only child. It may have been a day school, as she talks about looking after him and Daddy.

I imagine all the horse stuff has been a continuation of a life she was already very familiar with and very comfortable in.

So, whatever she has or hasn't said in order to get on the show, I really do see a big difference in her. She seems to have realised that her skills and traits aren't just useful in the home and with horsewomanship.

But that who she is is someone capable of using those skills to do whatever she wants.

And that seems to be a thing that many women struggle with (self included), so if there's one woman more who had that eureka moment then that's great!

Plus if she and Tom win, then that's something she's achieved without her husband's money, it's £10,000 she earnt herself.

And if they don't win then at least she can see herself as much more than someone living a comfortable cosy no risks life.

I chose my name from a quote from the Archers about 30 odd years ago when a character's dog, Captain, died. Coincidentally (or not) it's also the opening line of a poem by Walt Whitman but I haven't seen the film Dead Poet's Society which other posters have mentioned.

Stirabout · 05/06/2025 11:13

Thanks Captain

Of note re things not said
After checking Companies House ( yes I do that a lot ) both Caroline and Brian have their own companies
Although I’m assuming Brian has stood down now, I didn’t look past the first page tbh.

Actually correction there, Caroline is the secretary of a company that her dh ( a barrister ) is part of, only just picked up on that.

advantagelove · 05/06/2025 11:51

If I remember correctly one year (S America?) the winners gave most if not all their money to charity - possibly uncle/nephew pair - so if one of the richer contestants won I'd hope they'd do that. However, in terms of using the money for themselves Fin & Sioned might appreciate it most although I'd be concerned she'd blow it all on a wedding dress!

I also think we could do with a spinoff programme for those of us who want more detail. A bit like The Apprentice's 'You're Fired' or 'Big Brother's Little Brother'. What could it be called?

finfitrulesok · 05/06/2025 12:51

I don't care what Caroline has or hasn't done. She is superb in the race, and her relationship with her son, who clearly adores her, is such a good one.
They took a gamble and it paid off. They were calm and clever. I love them.

CaptainMyCaptain · 05/06/2025 12:51

I think Sioned has now revised her vision of the future so I think she would spend the prize on travelling rather than a wedding dress.

ChompandaGrazia · 05/06/2025 12:54

I like Caroline. She seems a really nice person and Tom seems like a nice lad. However I dislike the way that she is portraying herself as some hard done by housewife who has never done anything for herself. I wouldn’t mind if she brought up the eventing and horse training but it’s disingenuous to not mention it at all. I don’t know if this is her choice or the production company. The production company would know. They will do a real deep dive into the backgrounds of the contestants as the couldn’t have someone on there who turned out to have a dark secret.

Stirabout · 05/06/2025 13:27

Agree. I’d love Caroline and Tom to win although I see here most are in favour of the brothers.
( appreciate perhaps its not necessarily the winning but what you get out of it…..personally I’d want to win as well though. Icing on the cake and all that )

As it stands my guess on the final line up
Caroline and Tom
Melvyn and Brian
Letitia and Elizabeth ( just saw they are 33 and 26 I thought they were younger)
Sioned and Fin ( I think lack of money will take its toll )

I can’t take anything Caroline says seriously. She’s such a fake.

Between her and the editors I'm feeling totally gaslit.

I imagine her in a very traditional marriage where her high earning husband has allowed her to be a SAHM playing ponies . Anyone who has horses will know how expensive it is so there’s money somewhere.

Turmerictolly · 05/06/2025 13:44

I think Caroline is getting a lot out of the show. I know that feeling of being free and a bit ‘wild’ when you’re travelling. It’s a great feeling and she’s having a ball. She’s also very fit and competitive and a nice person so I don’t begrudge them winning but I just feel the money would make most difference to some of the others. Who knows though, she might donate it to charity!

Yes, the winners donated. If I recall, they were so touched by some of the people they met, and the conditions they endured, so they donated the money to charities that could help them. It was a really humble and lovely gesture by the two men.

Umbilicat · 05/06/2025 14:38

I hate this idea - saw it in the Traitors - that the winner should be the one who "needs" the money most. It should be the one(s) who played the game best. Which - to be fair - is all of them in this case, they've all been very strong at different times and ways.

Having said that, the uncle and nephew donating was fabulous.

I imagine however moneyed Tom's family are he could do with a leg up. He's emerged as a lovely young man and it's great to see Caroline thriving. I strongly suspect her back story has been played to death by the producers. She probably talked a lot about horses too and it all hit the cutting room floor. How can the editors not be aware that all this info is out there and people can access it in seconds?

paranoiaofpufflings · 05/06/2025 14:55

@advantagelove Yes you’re right it was the uncle/nephew pair, they donated to a charity they’d found along the journey.

A spinoff programme would be great! How about The Overnight Bus?

Great suggestion for a name.

TwentyKittens · 05/06/2025 15:06

I actually felt that the donation of money by the winners that year was really performative. Or rather, them mentioning it was. It was generous but you can be generous without telling everyone.

I agree with those saying need shouldn't come into it, winners are the best not the worthiest.

OP posts:
BreezySwan · 05/06/2025 15:37

I don't think it was perforative, I think they were genuinely moved and as Muslims acted on that by giving it away. Their faith seemed quite integral to their values.

I don't believe Caroline talked about riding and it ended up on the cutting room floor, there were too many good opportunities like the donkeys/horses and one of the brothers is quite rich so that wouldn't have been a reason for it for them not to be chosen. I think she just made a massive mistake by talking to horse and hound when she got back, I think she portrayed herself how she wanted to portray herself but didn't realize people do is huge amount of research on contestants. I can't believe that people actually look up their details on company's house...

I still want the brothers to win but not feeling very hopeful...
