New series starting next week - really looking forward to it. The teams are travelling in Asia, but I can't find information about the couples yet. Wednesday nights sorted!

Oh yes. I’m getting that feeling too. Am I remembering rightly that in one of the past series they were mean to go through China but the government pulled the permission at the last minute?

In the first series they did go through China but we saw nothing of the contestants' journey. I recommend watching the first series if you have the time or inclination.

Don’t have any favourites yet I don’t think.

Impressed by how much mandarin the girl learnt through her time there - it wasn’t that long overall. But I guess in a place where very few speak any English at all you have far less choice but to learn some in order to get by.

Haven’t read every post so others may have already commented, but the fact that she speaks Mandarin enough to be understood/ understand does seem a bit of an unfair advantage , shouldn’t it be a level playing field

Agree, this year’s locations seem carefully curated. And yes, they were suddenly unable to go on to China in last year’s RATW and had to exit South Korea quickly by plane to move to a new rendezvous in SE Asia. I wanted to see more of SK so that was particularly annoying.

This is just me being pedantic: I am amazed that a tourist village is big enough to go on a map of Asia. I thought a map of that size would only show cities or major towns. Would Gretna Green be on a map of Europe?

I have always thought that they have maps specially printed for the race. That have all checkpoints and also towns and cities with transport hubs on them.

Have I read somewhere that they are told they can only take the 2 routes that the narrator says they could take? As otherwise people could go off on massive tangents here there and everywhere.

Aslockton · 04/05/2025 18:44

That makes sense. Last year Alfie and friend lost their map. Everyone was saying they should buy another. But in Japan, getting a map in English would be tricky. Maybe they are printed for the programme.

Although it's an advantage, I don't think it's an unfair advantage. The teams are never going to be on an exact par with each other - some will be physically stronger or faster runners or more experienced at map-reading. In the South America series, Jo could speak Spanish quite well but I don't remember anyone suggesting that was unfair.

LindorDoubleChoc · 04/05/2025 19:31

It would be impossible and very dull to start with a completely level playing field in this race.

MrsPeterHarris · 06/05/2025 00:13

Caught up on the episode tonight & really enjoyed it. The brother’s have grown on me and not keen on Caroline & Tom - they seem quite boring. I love the sisters & do want to know more of their back story about why one lived in Italy for 9 years and the other in China for a period.

Also liking the young couple & also Gaz & Yin!

Wish there was a red button option to see more of how they are actually planning their travel & making the arrangements.

MonkeyTennis34 · 06/05/2025 09:14

Love Race Across the World.
I especially like the back stories, the relationship within the couples. I can envisage some big ups and downs between the sisters, the young couple (planning on marriage at 18/19??!?!) and it will be interesting to see how the previously separated brothers’ relationship develops.

LindorDoubleChoc · 07/05/2025 21:02

Checking in for tonight's episode 🙂

Jellykat · 07/05/2025 21:04

Evening all.. wow 44 hours behind is a lot!

TokyoSushi · 07/05/2025 21:11

That’ll narrow the gap a bit!

Jellykat · 07/05/2025 21:12

Thomas is a spoilt winge bag

SwedishEdith · 07/05/2025 21:13

Tom really does sound like Tim Nice But Dim. Like the teeth or lips don't ever touch each other when talking. And I think Caroline is now Susannah Constantine.

Halsall · 07/05/2025 21:13

I’ll be seriously hacked off if Gaz and Yin are kicked out and Caroline and whiny Tom stay in….

SwedishEdith · 07/05/2025 21:16

Ha ha at that chair collapse 😄

Yes, will be hacked off in Yin and Gaz go out.

My thoughts exactly

boatyardblues · 07/05/2025 21:21

I have faith in Gaz and Yin. 🤞

He was the big seasoned traveller at the beginning 🤣.

BassesAreBest · 07/05/2025 21:24

I’m losing patience with the back stories. Just show the race!

CrushingOnRubies · 07/05/2025 21:28

I’m confused! Why were there so many hotels ??

TokyoSushi · 07/05/2025 21:29

It’s a chain, like saying in London take me to the Premier Inn, but not knowing which one!

Jellykat · 07/05/2025 21:29

Get a grip Thomas 🙄
