Hi
I've recently realised that although I'm paying £43/month for my sky tv. I'm not really watching actually sky channels. It's been a slow wake up lol! I tend to watch my netflix/ disney + and old fashioned terrestrial channels. It's a funny feeling as I have had sky tv since, l I left home in 2007. I just feel it's a massive waste of money, am I the only one? Has anyone cancelled their sky tv recently? Have you noticed a difference in your tv / streaming life? Do you feel you're missing out? Xx

Sky is such a massive rip off but I still like watching live TV & being able to pause, rewind & record so I’m one of the stupid suckers who still pays!

mumofoneAlonebutokay · 07/04/2025 20:49

I loved sky but now I wouldn't get it

I use the streaming services, netflix, now tv, Disney plus, which all adds up to about the same cost as sky anyway

Then for tv shows, I watch on freeview or on catch up x

Simpledimples · 07/04/2025 21:14

I cancelled Sky as it was about £90 a month (just TV). Realised we hardly watched it. Now we have eetv and it's £15 a month with Now TV and netflix (with ads). Then we get Disney plus free from the bank. Haven't noticed the difference, can still pause and record. Still have the sky box sets and entertainment channels through now tv eg Atlantic, comedy etc. Wish I'd done it sooner!

TeaRoseTallulah · 08/04/2025 00:05

I could've posted this. Also been a customer for 18 years and about to leave, we pay about 90 a month and it's too much.

I think I need Now TV, I still want sky Atlantic.

Kevintheelf80 · 08/04/2025 00:36

You can now reduce it right down to a £25 a month basic rolling contract which I have just done. Just make sure you get put through to the cancellations department as they have access to the best deals and won't want to lose you as a customer after 18 years

TennesseeStella · 08/04/2025 00:37

Wow, how much has that cost you over 18 years?! I've never had Sky TV. Even £25 a month is a rip off IMO.

Yep....same here. Trying to leave is proving very difficult though. I'm at the end of my tether with them. I pay slightly more than you and have been trying to downgrade my package for over a month. There's always a "problem" at their end. I either need to be put through to someone else or their computers are down. Driving me mad

11plusinLondon · 08/04/2025 15:15

We’ve recently left after 20 years. Everything we wanted (football, dramas) we can get through Now for much less.

Lovewine1975 · 08/04/2025 15:21

For those of you who have Now does that have a lot of the Sky Channels on there? Can you get live football/F1 my husband refuses to leave Sky due to the Sport, we've been with them for about 20 years and the cost is a joke now.

AmazingBouncingFerret · 08/04/2025 15:27

oh god I was was paying an obscene amount every month because I had the broadband too! I’ve not missed it one little bit. Im even thinking of cancelling my tv licence but my husband is a bit wary of that. We haven’t watched ”proper” channels for years!

Yes you can, you have to pay extra for sports but it’s still cheaper than Sky.

We left last year after they tried to put our price up to £90ish too! It annoyed me that when you try to leave they offer you all these extras that you don’t actually need that comes to… exactly what you were already paying.

Blondeshavemorefun · 08/04/2025 15:34

Sky basic package it’s around £20 a month because I like SKY I like to record stuff or series link and the 20 ish quid a month is worth it

I know I get sky, Atlantic and think all channels I want

obv no sport or movie

user1497787065 · 08/04/2025 15:35

We have Sky which is now £95 per month. My DH sees it as non-negotiable as he enjoys the sport and history, National geographic etc. I only ever watch channels 1-5 in real time. My friends tell me I am the only person they know who still does this.

I thought Sky gave the only access to the sports channels. Have I misunderstood this? What is Now Tv? Does it involve another box or dish?

Augustus40 · 08/04/2025 15:41

I cancelled Sky last summer. No regrets. I watch a lot on Catch Up.

I watch Now TV through Roku. The box is very small.

You can also watch Netflx, Amazon, Apple etc (additional cost) though the box.

You can either subscribe to Sky Sports on a monthly basis or you could pay for a day pass. You get the History and National Geographic channel on the basic deal of £9.99 per month.

deffo cancel your license if you don't need it. Why pay for something unnecessarily?
you get all the fun of the scary threatening letters once you cancel too! Always exciting to get

I've just done this, and reduced my bill by a LOT of money, thank you so much!

Cancellation Department phone number is 0333 759 3625 . They are the only department that have actually listened and did what I asked - after a month of being transferred to MANY other departments 🙄

SingingSands · 08/04/2025 17:01

We cancelled Sky years ago and never looked back. We don't miss it. We pay for Netflix and Disney+ and don't feel we're missing out. I'd even query getting rid of those - there's too much choice and it's just FOMO that keeps people subscribing.

mne13 · 08/04/2025 17:04

I have just cancelled mine after 22 years (without any break). I was paying £113 a month and they said they could offer me a £3 reduction!
So I went ahead and cancelled. I just watch the apps now, it's been 2 weeks and I'm used to it so I just pay £35 now for my broadband!
Best decision I've made in a long while.

JadeSeahorse · 08/04/2025 17:12

Got rid of Sky in 2017 after 30 years as we were paying £84 per month.

Never looked back! We just use the Fire Cube for streaming and Freeview channels.

ManchesterMarie · 08/04/2025 17:14

Does anyone know if you cancel sky or go onto the basic package can you still watch films you’ve paid for via Sky Store? Thanks

piscofrisco · 08/04/2025 17:15

This is also me. What do you get with now tv or ee tv please?

TeaRoseTallulah · 08/04/2025 19:07

We pay over £100 but just realise that included broadband and landline. Hmmm we might not be able to know that much off after all. Will look into it more.

RedRiverShore5 · 08/04/2025 19:26

We pay £84 a month and I think It may go at the end of our contract, EuroSport has gone now which DH liked and I could manage quite easily with Now TV but DH is a bit of a dinosaur and likes his Sky, he doesn't tend to stream anything so it could be a difficult journey 😬

Antsinmypantsneedtodance · 08/04/2025 19:36

Cancelled sky last year. Well sort of. We don't have a tv ariel and j like others like the pause etc functionality. So we ended up taking their last ditch offer. £5 a month for basically freesat. So use of the box and all free channels. You can juat get a freesar box and do this yourself. But that was more than £5 a month. So we went for it. We have broadband with them too so still had a contract. But its due up soon and thinking we're going to swap to starlink. So it will likely be bye bye sky as a whole.
