Hi
I've recently realised that although I'm paying £43/month for my sky tv. I'm not really watching actually sky channels. It's been a slow wake up lol! I tend to watch my netflix/ disney + and old fashioned terrestrial channels. It's a funny feeling as I have had sky tv since, l I left home in 2007. I just feel it's a massive waste of money, am I the only one? Has anyone cancelled their sky tv recently? Have you noticed a difference in your tv / streaming life? Do you feel you're missing out? Xx

If I ditched sky , I would have to pay for something else to replace it to enable me to watch ordinary TV that comes from Britain so its not worth cancelling for that reason also. But being able to record and watch things in my own time is the main reason.

I have just cancelled mine after 22 years (without any break). I was paying £113 a month and they said they could offer me a £3 reduction!
So I went ahead and cancelled. I just watch the apps now, it's been 2 weeks and I'm used to it so I just pay £35 now for my broadband!
Best decision I've made in a long while.

I have just managed to negotiate my mum's Sky down from £115 to £82. She'd been with them for 18+ years. It seems if you don't ask for a discount you don't get one!

The free Disney with Lloyds is with ads so I don't choose it, DH has a magazine instead.

If you’re happy with it you’re happy with it. I got the vibe that people weren’t confident in looking at other options and was trying to help. It’s your money, spend it on what makes you happy 😊

I suppose it depends on your needs, being able to download is very important for us as we tour a lot in our caravan and often bad signal so have to fill up iPads before we go. A lot of cheaper options don’t allow this

We are currently living somewhere with no Sky dish, so when we moved we got a Smart TV and ditched Sky (after 20 years) and get all our TV via streaming.

I think it's definitely cheaper and more flexible this way. We use BBC iplayer, ITVx and the Channel 4 app, Netflix, etc. Most apps can also show live streams of whatever is currently being shown on the relevant TV channel. The trick is supposed to be that you don't subscribe to everything all the time. Plus there are always different deals popping up, whereas Sky ties you in for 2 year contracts.

We used to have the old Sky HD box, it worked beautifully. Rewinding, fastforwarding through ads, it was all so smooth. I never upgraded to Sky Q as apparently it was more tricksy. I do miss that Sky box.

Streaming is good in theory but you are reliant on your Internet connection, so we do have occasional buffering which is annoying. Plus content can be removed, as pps said. But we are currently in the process of moving again, and we probably won't go back to Sky as I see on here their prices are reaching ridiculous levels.

Plus you know that the streaming service Now (which is owned by Sky) seems to have about 95% of their content and all the best and latest stuff.?And they always do deals if you go to cancel! Currently I've agreed to stay for 6 months and I'm getting Now Entertainment (which has all the things on Sky Atlantic etc) for £3.99 a month. Also separately have Sky Cinema (same films as the Sky version) for another £3.99 a month. The Sport package we don't have though, that's quite a lot extra I think.

I meant to say we subscribe to Now Cinema, not Sky obvs.
