Hi
I've recently realised that although I'm paying £43/month for my sky tv. I'm not really watching actually sky channels. It's been a slow wake up lol! I tend to watch my netflix/ disney + and old fashioned terrestrial channels. It's a funny feeling as I have had sky tv since, l I left home in 2007. I just feel it's a massive waste of money, am I the only one? Has anyone cancelled their sky tv recently? Have you noticed a difference in your tv / streaming life? Do you feel you're missing out? Xx

I cancelled my parents sky after 25 years this year! They wanted to increase the price by a third, they were already paying over £120 a month. Instead they have a "new customer" package with virgin at under £50 a month ( sorry can't remember the total) and I will co ti up to switch them as I do us every 18months. Loyalty means nothing these days, your best to switch and keep on switching!

And now tv you can go all the way through cancelling it they’ll throw some ridiculous offer at you’ve I’ve been paying £4.99 a month for movies for ages doing this!!

This is also me. What do you get with now tv or ee tv please?

I have eetv which includes now TV entertainment package and netflix (with ads)for £15. I can record and series link, pause etc. You can change your package every month (like sky used to) eg add movies or sport at particular times. Don't miss sky, saving a fortune.

Starlightstarbright4 · 08/04/2025 21:53

I cancelled 2020 - I haven’t missed it at all .

Sadly we can't get Virgin where we live ,I did look it up though as I'm with them for mobile phones and banking.

I'm with now. I pay £20 a month for all the sky sports channels, and £4.99 a month for the sky entertainment channels. I've been with now a while now, so keep getting offered the best deals. No contract either.

RonnieOmelettes · 09/04/2025 08:10

@skippy67 what do you watch it through?

Our sky package will go up to £150 next week, including broadband and sports. It’s ridiculous. It was about £95 this time last year including movies as well.

We’ve been with them nearly 15 years but every time there’s a massive hike have to spend hours on the phone to get a deal matching a new customer (or not, even)

Were not doing it again and are going to get a firestick/roku/apple box to stream from

The now package sounds perfect - we just need freeview, sky Atlantic and sports

Will miss recording but sky can F off now!

RedRiverShore5 · 09/04/2025 10:34

A lot of people aren't happy about the disappearance of Eurosport and the downgrading of the free Paramount+ to the adverts one so I guess lots more will be cancelling as it makes it even worse value

MrsSkylerWhite · 09/04/2025 10:37

We got in touch when our subscription increased a while ago. Customers for 25 years.

Our subscription was reduced to previous price and we were given a free Sky Glass TV for our loyalty!

PleaseDontFingerMyPouffe · 09/04/2025 10:41

Yes I left, total rip off and the menu function is poor.

To the poster who likes live TV- you don't need sky to pause or rewind and you can buy record boxes if that's important but sky doesn't really offer anything other services don't

DrCoconut · 09/04/2025 10:59

If you cancel is there a way to keep recordings? DS was on TV a couple of years ago and we recorded it and don't want to lose it.

User19876536484 · 09/04/2025 11:06

We cancelled ours. By coincidence, it was 20 years to the day that we started it.

Haven’t missed it at all.

apparently not . maybe a way to transfer the recording onto a hard drive?

Inmydreams88 · 09/04/2025 11:30

I got rid of mine a few months ago as they wanted to put the price up and it was ridiculous as I hardly watched any of the channels, only movies now and again. Honestly I barely miss it, obviously having the Home Screen with all the channels and being able to watch pause and record live stuff is the only good thing about it really. But I’ve gotten used to just watching stuff on BBC, itv, channel 4 apps and I have Netflix, Disney and prime.

XxSideshowAuntSallyx · 09/04/2025 11:34

I have it as I don't have an aerial connected, I also don't have Netflix or Disney+. I live in a block of flats where Sky was already installed.

Every time my contract comes up for renewal I call them and in the end I always get it at what I've been paying for the past however many years, or sometimes less. I've only seen a slight increase as I upgraded to full fibre.

I watch it through the now tv app which I've downloaded onto my smart tv

Figgygal · 09/04/2025 18:03

Do ou ever 'phone to cancel?

nightmarepickle2025 · 09/04/2025 18:21

Cancelled mine, never looked back. Subscribe to Now if there’s something on Sky I want to watch.

chattyness · 09/04/2025 18:23

We cancelled during covid after being with them from the very beginning. I have missed them , so much more choice now

BirraMoretti · 09/04/2025 18:27

I recently cancelled mine and now have a Freesat box connected to my old Sky dish for the channels and a Firestick for streaming. I don’t miss it at all and they were such utter bastards about me cancelling that I’m delighted not to be giving them any more money.

RedRiverShore5 · 09/04/2025 18:53

Some high prices on here but it does add up especially if you add the sports packages, if DH adds TNT Sports to ours which he may have to to get his beloved Eurosport back, that is another £30 added. It soon mounts up.

Timeforanotheraliasnow · 09/04/2025 19:05

We changed to EE tv and saved a fortune, or we would have if Sky had cancelled our subscription like they were supposed to. We’re now having to pay 3 months including 30 day notice period for a service we haven’t used since January. Not impressed

pambeesleyhalpert · 09/04/2025 19:25

Lovewine1975 · 08/04/2025 15:21

For those of you who have Now does that have a lot of the Sky Channels on there? Can you get live football/F1 my husband refuses to leave Sky due to the Sport, we've been with them for about 20 years and the cost is a joke now.

Same and it’s the sport that racks it up!

INeedAnotherName · 09/04/2025 19:41

To everyone who is thinking about cancelling I suggest you do it soon as they are downsizing their British call centres and sending the work to India and Bulgaria.

Remembering the Indian call centres from when I had Virgin you might need a GP prescription for valium...
