Hi
I've recently realised that although I'm paying £43/month for my sky tv. I'm not really watching actually sky channels. It's been a slow wake up lol! I tend to watch my netflix/ disney + and old fashioned terrestrial channels. It's a funny feeling as I have had sky tv since, l I left home in 2007. I just feel it's a massive waste of money, am I the only one? Has anyone cancelled their sky tv recently? Have you noticed a difference in your tv / streaming life? Do you feel you're missing out? Xx

I’m not sure it would be worse than the customer service they already offer but I expect they’ll give it a go 🙄

Miajayne91 · 09/04/2025 20:12

Get a chipped amazon firestick £50 a year, can't go wrong 🤣

LilWoosmum82 · 10/04/2025 15:46

Thankyou for the responses. I've cancelled my sky this am. 31days from now no more sky, £43 a month better off. (I had already gotten rid of broadband and sky talk 18months ago) x

Yes mine used to be £43. I really have not missed it. You can watch so much on Catch Up these days. Especially Itvx.

I thought I wd miss the record option but I really don't.

There are so many films on you tube too.

EveryDayisFriday · 12/04/2025 09:34

I pay £3.99pm for nowtv entertainment channels.

RedRiverShore5 · 12/04/2025 09:42

I doubt DH will give it up, he doesn't watch any streaming channels even though I have them all, though he's not happy about Eurosport going and that he might have to pay another £30 a month. We have had it since about 1989/90 when the dishes were huge.

LilWoosmum82 · 12/04/2025 13:37

Thankyou for all the feedback. I cancelled it this week, although have to wait the full 31days, now in the process of checking my digital aerial etc. Next in the firing line is disney plus I've got that on the ad version but my DD has confessed she doesn't actually watch that much anymore either. The only thing I'll be left with, will be Nerflix and my free apple tv subscription happy days x

I was paying about £85 a month before I cancelled it (quite a few years ago) all I ever watched was friends or the Simpsons.

Have had less guilt trippy relationship break ups than the cancellation call, honestly was ridiculous.

Like you I'd had it for years. Don't miss it.

Yep....same here. Trying to leave is proving very difficult though. I'm at the end of my tether with them. I pay slightly more than you and have been trying to downgrade my package for over a month. There's always a "problem" at their end. I either need to be put through to someone else or their computers are down. Driving me mad

I cancelled sky a few years back. Took 2 days of being nearly constantly on the phone. I had a running saga on my social media at the time because it was so ridiculous.

We’ve just cancelled sky tv after 25 years - also moved from their broadband service. Next job is to get someone with a ladder to remove the dish.

Papergirl1968 · 12/04/2025 14:59

Money is VERY tight right now and I’ve just cancelled my Virgin broadband/landline/ internet package. Funnily enough I couldn’t get through to a real life human who could help when I had a dispute with them last year, but now I keep having calls from people keen to get me to stay with them…
Like a pp, the vast majority of what I watch is on 1-5 and for anything that’s not, like Grey’s, I pick up the dvd box sets from charity shops.
I will have to see if my mobile data is enough for me to browse the web and watch iplayer and ITVX etc as I tend to watch catchup on phone rather than on the actual tv.

ItsStillWork · 12/04/2025 15:09

My sky bill is £158 a month!

those of you that have the basic package, can you still use the catch up, multi room etc?

WinterOnItsWayOut · 12/04/2025 15:53

I’ve had a freesat box for years as I like to series record and ff the adverts. So if you still want that functionality don’t get rid of the dish!

PassingStranger · 12/04/2025 16:44

No love Sky. It's brilliant for Sport for one thing.

I don't have multi room but yes you can still watch catch up with the basic package.

Multiroom is just an add on like cinema and sports packages so you could get rid of the extras, Sports is very costly, keep the multiroom, and still have the Sky benefits like recording and catch up interface. Though you will have to wait until you are out of contract with the add ons, some are monthly and some are 18 months or whatever

lunaemma · 13/04/2025 10:55

I have BT internet which came with EE tv so I can pause, free NOW subscription and Netflix and I think I have discovery plus with it too. About £52

I get multi room free, they have it to me last time I moaned about the price. Tomorrow DH is ringing to haggle with them,I'll keep you posted .

RedRiverShore5 · 13/04/2025 14:01

Multiscreen is £15, it seems, so if you had 2 of them that would be another £30, it soon mounts up. Good luck tomorrow @TeaRoseTallulah

If you cancel is there a way to keep recordings? DS was on TV a couple of years ago and we recorded it and don't want to lose it.

No. You lose everything on sky box

so maybe play it on tv and use iphone/iPad and record the tv playback so you have a copy then on phone

TeaRoseTallulah · 19/04/2025 16:54

So that's the last time dh is in charge of dealing with Sky! He's got it down £15 per month plus upper to super fast broadband but we're tied in for 24 months.

134 per month- broadband, landline phone, telly including films (no sport) plus netflix also multiroom.

£134 per month... which can legally go up mid contact to an undetermined price out of your control but you can't break it. I would be weeping right now 😱

How much is a new patio in comparison?

We got in touch when our subscription increased a while ago. Customers for 25 years.

Our subscription was reduced to previous price and we were given a free Sky Glass TV for our loyalty!

You're talking rubbish, sky glass is not given away for free. 100% true 😂😂

Well,it's not free but we have friends who had to pay for it and we didn't, it was 'free' when we last threatened to leave so I know what @MrsSkylerWhite means.
