Julie Goodyear photo - Bet Lynch

The husband has released a photo of Julie Goodyear - I feel this was best kept private, and to remember her how she was a glamorous blonde fierce bombshell, and not looking a shell of her former self. She has dementia so thankfully won't be aware of the published image (which I won't post here)

OP posts:
Fancyquickthinker · 02/04/2025 17:17

Yes, I've seen it all over twitter - why has he released this - bang out of order - she would have hated this !

Alltheburpees · 02/04/2025 17:19

I wish I hadn’t looked.

SantaToSSD · 02/04/2025 17:21

No, you didn't post the photo here but you alerted everyone to it and now they can go and look for it if they have a mind to. I've just done so and tbh, although I agree maybe her husband shouldn't post photos of his wife since she can presumably no longer consent to them, on the other hand, the photo is lovely and I object to your idea that she should be remembered only as a blonde bombshell. What is wrong with how she looks now? Why are photos of old people, looking old and past their prime, so offensive to you? She looks very happy and well cared for and she has reached a fabulous age. Good for her.

mumofoneAlonebutokay · 02/04/2025 17:24

I won't look but doubtless will come across it - why has the husband done that tbh

Don't blame you for posting this thread though, many of us will come across it

Fancyquickthinker · 02/04/2025 17:25

I don't feel the OP was directing people to the photo - just the fact it's been done - everyone will see it - it's everywhere over SM and every newspaper - you cannot avoid it. Might have been better if she had her bottom teeth in ?

TennesseeStella · 02/04/2025 17:29

It's a lovely photo, she looks very happy.

Cardhouse · 02/04/2025 17:31

Oh. I did look but I don't know what's so terrible about it. She looks lovely IMO.

I think the adverse reaction to a perfectly nice picture of a woman of advanced years is what needs looking at, not publishing the picture.

purpleme12 · 02/04/2025 17:31

I also don't see anything wrong with the photo actually.

Obviously she looks different and old but what's so bad about the actual photo?

This thread made it sound like it was something awful!

Fancyquickthinker · 02/04/2025 17:34

I feel the point here is the lack of consent - Julie was a very glamorous lady, and cannot tell her OH about her feelings - yes she looks happy, and has aged from what her memories were, perhaps I am overthinking it.

Shetlands · 02/04/2025 17:38

I'd be horrified if I'd lost my bottom teeth and someone put a photo on SM of me without them. Julie was always glamorous and I can't believe she'd have ever, prior to dementia, consented to publishing such a photo. I think it's cruel and humiliating.

Fancyquickthinker · 02/04/2025 17:44

exactly 👆

GoodVibesHere · 02/04/2025 17:59

Ah she's 83 years old god love her. She actually looks very sweet in that photo, with her smiling eyes I think it's beautiful. I'm not understanding what the problem is.

Ilostmyhalo · 02/04/2025 18:02

I've just looked, it's a lovely happy photo - the lack of her consent is the issue here. Also there must be more flattering photo's of her if the husband/partner felt it necessary to update us on her current situation.

nicenicemaybe · 02/04/2025 18:05

I have just seen this pic and I 100% disagree with it being published.
Julie was a very proud lady who always scrubbed up well and I would find it hard to believe that this lady would have consented to this photo being published when she had full MC.
I am years younger and I veto every pic that anyone puts on social media.

Chewbecca · 02/04/2025 18:05

I don't know, it seems a shame that we can only share photos of people when they look their (youthful) best. She's still his wife and they still share life and times together, they shouldn't be ashamed of their appearance.

I think the same. We all get our turn at being old if we're lucky to live that long. It's natural. It's sad of course that people fade away and then die but the photo shows her as she is. And that's nothing for her to be ashamed of.

It's not about age or glamour to me, it's about consent.

Moveoverdarlin · 02/04/2025 18:09

I’d come back and haunt my husband if he did that to me.

BalladOfBarryAndFreda · 02/04/2025 18:11

Before you leap to labelling her DH as a bad person, I'll point you to his interview as part of the Alzheimer's UK "Long goodbye" campaign.

www.alzheimers.org.uk/news/2024-03-20/julie-goodyear-dementia-story-new-alzheimers-society-campaign#:~:text=%22Now%20the%20lipsticks%20and%20make%2Dup%20go%20unworn%22&text=She%20was%20renowned%20for%20being,nowhere%20without%20her%20make%2Dup.

I don't think he's a cruel person, lacking compassion or care for his wife's dignity.

Ilostmyhalo · 02/04/2025 18:14

But would SHE have wanted this photo - yes raise awareness of this disease, there must be better photos that we can remember her by. ?? The photo on the link 👆 is so much more flattering - why not publish that ??

GoodVibesHere · 02/04/2025 18:14

It's not very nice to say 'there must be more flattering photos'. Maybe this is the most flattering recent photo? She looks lovely, relaxed and happy, which is exactly how you'd want to feel on your 83rd birthday!

Some have mentioned consent. Maybe she did consent? Or, maybe she can no longer give consent - in which case does that mean her husband should never, ever share a photo of her again? So she has to be kept hidden from now on because she has aged?

People have mentioned that she should've 'put her teeth in' but why should she? Dentures aren't the most comfortable things to wear. Maybe dentures irritate her. It's a shame people have to focus on negativity rather than celebrating the happy occasion.

Me too, I smiled when I saw it. I imagine he knows better than any of us whether she would have hated a photo of her being put on social media.

wowwhataday · 02/04/2025 18:17

She’s got missing teeth FGS. No way would she consent to that photo. If that was my mum, I’d be furious

Pallisers · 02/04/2025 18:18

Well if she can't consent then to me it means he should not share photos on social media. Fine to send it to a family or friends but not to the whole world. I feel the same about children who can't consent to their photos being published.

daisychain01 · 02/04/2025 18:19

No, no, no.

there is no excuse or justification in the world for posting that photo. It should have been kept private, that is not Julie Goodyear as everyone should remember her, in her heyday.
