Julie Goodyear photo - Bet Lynch

The husband has released a photo of Julie Goodyear - I feel this was best kept private, and to remember her how she was a glamorous blonde fierce bombshell, and not looking a shell of her former self. She has dementia so thankfully won't be aware of the published image (which I won't post here)

OP posts:

I prefer to remember her wearing her outrageous earings and leopard print jackets.
I'm sure, if she could make herself heard, that's how she would prefer the general public to remember her too.

I wonder if he was paid for the interview and the pics?

SallyD00lally · 02/04/2025 18:19

I could never stand the woman but if she's unable to give consent (and it doesn't seem as though she is), he should never have posted it.

AwfulTower · 02/04/2025 18:19

I think it’s really weird that you are telling the world to ‘remember her how she was’.

Ah she's 83 years old god love her. She actually looks very sweet in that photo, with her smiling eyes I think it's beautiful. I'm not understanding what the problem is.

And if this was you ?? would you want a photo like this to be your last ? - or would you want someone to put you in clothing other than a tracksuit.

You must know her really well on a personal level.

Nevertrustacop · 02/04/2025 18:21

It's a great photo, she looks lovely and happy. I doubt she gives a monkeys about her appearance these days, so why should we?

Pyjamatimenow · 02/04/2025 18:22

Nah he’s bang out of order.

It isn't weird, it's about celebrating her when she was on screen doing what she loved, not sitting in her tracksuit with no teeth and no agency, a shadow of her former self.

It lacks dignity, but then I am very private and can't stand all the oversharing that happens on social media where nothing is sacred.

I'd be content for this to be my last, yes. Why not?

Surely people are capable of remembering her 'in her heyday' whilst also acknowledging her as she is now. She's still alive isn't she. She looks happy.

I have seen her around town over the years to know that she treasured her public image, so I can give my opinion....maybe more accurately than you can.

She hasn't got her teeth in! Do you honestly believe that Julie would ever have consented to being publicly humiliated like that?

MinnieCoops · 02/04/2025 18:25

I don’t think it’s okay without her teeth in etc. My Nan would never have consented to that and I don’t think Julie can do either so it’s out of order.

None of us know JG personally, but we can have empathy for her, and be outraged that her dignity has been taken away by the person who should be protecting her in her vulnerable state.

Pallisers · 02/04/2025 18:18

Or, maybe she can no longer give consent - in which case does that mean her husband should never, ever share a photo of her again?

Well if she can't consent then to me it means he should not share photos on social media. Fine to send it to a family or friends but not to the whole world. I feel the same about children who can't consent to their photos being published.

I never put a single pic of either of my children on SM (I have a dodgy Uncle)
Now they are older they don't want pics of them online. I respect that.
There isn't a single picture of them, outwith School / College ones they consented to, discussed each time.
It's about the consent aspect. If JG can't consent then, no, don't post ANY pic!

Maybe you think she should've been made to wear a full face of make-up too? Perhaps she should've been made to wear a slightly revealing leopard print dress? Or maybe you'd prefer her to hide herself away so that you don't have to accept the ageing process.

Of course we don't expect that - it's a ridiculous thing to say.

But what's 'undignified' about the photo?

Turns out the poster does claim to know her - because she's seen her in town Confused

friendlycat · 02/04/2025 18:32

I just think that she may have preferred to have a picture released where she did have her dentures in. I don't think it was a kind picture to have released honestly.

The ageing process happens to everybody who is lucky to gain older age.
But I would not have released such a picture of my late mother or grandmother.
I would have afforded them the dignity of wearing their dentures and perhaps a jolly scarf etc even if they were in their comfortable clothing.

Are you always this stupid?

hattie43 · 02/04/2025 18:33

Yes I’ve seen it and thought it very inappropriate. I think though her husband posts it on his own social media and probs has no privacy settings so the media have picked it up . Some things should be private .

OK I have re-read the comments. It's because she's not got all of her bottom teeth and she's not wearing outrageous earrings and leopard print.

She obviously doesn’t care because she has dementia! So no MC to even understand that her picture would be seen by thousands of strangers and discussed over the internet! My Mother who didn’t have dementia would have been bloody furious if I had plastered her picture over FB !!
