CLASSIC CORRIE THREAD. Now in June 2006.

SabreIsMyFave · 26/03/2025 13:51

Well here we are, a new thread a full year (almost) after the last one. Almost 2 years have passed (in Classic Corrie) since the start of the last thread (we were at September 2004, and it's now June 2006.)

So we have Keith still in it, about to be booted out of his house, after trying to get one over on Charlie Stubbs, who bought the house Keith is living in and gave him notice to move out. (And Keith and Audrey are finished now.)

Steve's girlfriend Ronnie appears to trying to set Steve up for the hit and run that she did in a Streetcars taxi.

Lloyd - Steve's new Streetcars partner has been dating Kelly Crabtree, who has recently been set up for a theft she didn't do by street newcomer Becky. In a drunken stupor, Kelly slept with Steve!

Janice is back (much to Cilla's disgust!)

Leanne and Danny have just got engaged. (Though Danny clearly is still in love with his ex wife Frankie...) Frankie has gone off to Spain leaving Nathan (her new fella) moping around without her. Les adopting Chesney has recently been approved.

Dev's 'long lost' daughter Amber has just moved in with him in his flat. And Dev is making the house he bought for him and Sunita, nice, in the hope that she will return soon with the baby twins (Asha and Aadi.)

Poor Ashley is fighting in court to keep his own son, after the 'bio father' (Matt) turned up trying to make a claim on him FOUR years after his birth, and after FOUR years of having nothing to do with him, (he wants him now because his new wife can't have children!) Ashley's wife Claire is quite heavily pregnant.

Sean has just recently met his dad, who was very cold and had a very unwelcoming wife when he went to see him. His dad came to Coronation Street shortly after to see Sean, but bottled out very quickly and drove off before Sean could see him. Sean prays he comes back.

We still have Blanche in it, being her nosey intrusive self, and also the equally nosey and intrusive Norris. Rita got caught in Norris's wardrobe recently after he had brought a woman home who he'd met in a lonely hearts club. That only lasted 5 minutes though after Norris decided he is better off alone!

Not much going on with the Barlows at the moment, apart from Tracey using everyone she can to look after Amy so she doesn't have to! And Gail is resuming normality as much as possible, after discovering that her son David was the one sending greetings cards signed 'Richard Hillman' for the past few months. David's punishment is to work at Audrey's salon. (Must be how he started working with hair!'

Sarah and Jason are due to be married, and Sarah is super excited about it. Jason, not so much. Sally and Kevin finally accepted the relationship with their daughter Rosie and her boyfriend Craig (the goth.) After many MANY months of resistance, and Rosie becoming a goth too. Rosie and Craig have recently de-gothed themselves though!

Oh, and we recently lost long-standing character Mike Baldwin who died of a massive heart attack. (April 2006.) Sad

I'm sure I've missed bits out, but I think these are the main bits for now. Grin

Let's see where it's all at when this thread finishes!

I remember all this first time around and agree it's when Corrie started to lose its way. I carried on watching on and off for a few years but haven't watched in years now.
Claire and Asley are do annoying and boring, they seem to take it in turns to be petulant and annoying. If this is leading up to Claire having post natal depression it's not remotely familiar to me having worked in mental health for 30 + years.

She's had it and over it now i beleive. ,I was a mental health nurse for years, I do think she portrayed, it quite well I'm assuming it was post partum psychosis and depression with her not believing the baby was hers
But she recovered remarkably quickly and they managed to detain her very efficiently under the MHA,as she was seen by three people at the same time ( I assume two Dr's and a AMPH) which almost never happens IRL.

Shimmyshimmycocobop · 27/05/2025 20:04

I'm a bit behind episode wise so should have waited to post 🙄
but generally post partum psychosis comes on very quickly after birth, as in days. PND doesn't usually involve psychosis and not over months. I thought the acting where she dropped him off at the hospital was good but over all didn't find it convincing really.

thenightsky · 27/05/2025 21:03

Audrey is being very cruel to Fred, telling him days before his wedding that she'd now marry him if asked. She rejected him more than once over the years. Nasty.

SabreIsMyFave · 27/05/2025 23:11

Agree that it's grim that Jamie is fancying his stepmum. As has been said, she's been his stepmum since he was an infant!

Also, IMO Claire did recover remarkably quickly from her postpartum depression! I did wonder if she was faking being better to try and get away from the hosptial she was in. I guess time will te..

Agree with the previous poster that what Audrey is doing to Fred is very cruel. She had her chance with him at least twice, and didn't want him, because she thought she deserved something 'better.' Personally I think Fred is a good catch as a man. Yeah he may not look like Harrison Ford or George Clooney, but he is kind and sweet and generous and solvent. He has so much to offer a woman.

Bev saw this, and accepted his marriage proposal. He had buried all his feelings for Audrey and moved on, and was happy with Bev, and now Audrey has stirred things up again, by saying 'I would have said yes to you if you had asked me Fred,' and I want you, I love you, I should have held on to you etc....' and she's messed with his head. Poor Bev thinks Fred is just worried about Claire, and he is mooning over Audrey!

Can't believe Tracy has took Charlie back when he has got Shelley pregnant. Any relationship or marriage I had would be 100% over if my man cheated and got another woman pregnant! Is she that desperate? 'oh but I wubz him!' Hmm

And WTF is wrong with Charlie? So desperate to get Tracy back, but still shagging Maria, and also shagged Shelley. Bloody man can't keep it in his pants! He needs neutering! 😂

I font have any sympathy for Tracyluv, she's a terrible person herself
Charlie's a complex chap I can see why women fall for him he can be very charming, I think he just gets a kick out of controlling people
Rosie is annoying me at the moment nothing is good enough for the little madam and I really feel Sophie loses out alot to her .

Agree with pps that this is the start of the decline. When they started showing Classic Corrie (in 2016) i think, they started with the time when Mike Baldwin was chasing Gloria Todd so 1986 i think

Yes when I started watching Gail was having the affair with Brian’s cousin Ian and got pregnant with Sarah which would have been 1986 as Sarah was born 1987!

UrsulasHerbBag · 29/05/2025 14:03

Oh Audrey you selfish selfish woman. She only ever wants Fred when other women do and she runs a mile when he pursues her. I adore Fred and would marry him in a shot a bet he’s a right laugh and a lovely loving kind man. I am going to wear black arm bands and have a moments silence when he goes.
Oooh and Rosie’s nose in the air over Paris, Sallys right she’s a proper little madam. 😂

SabreIsMyFave · 29/05/2025 14:27

Exactly that I said @UrsulasHerbBag Fred is a good catch as men go. So warm and kind and funny, and solvent too. He would really look after you. You'd never want for anything again, I say, you'd be treated so well. Smile

He is verrrrry silly though, rushing away from his wedding to go and see if Audrey is OK. Poor Bev. 😢

Also, re: Rosie, yes she is sooooooo ungrateful! Turning her nose up at a holiday to Paris! Good grief! In my mid teens, I was grateful to have a week in a caravan in Aberystwyth! 😆 Genuinely, some of my happiest childhood memories are from those lovely caravan holidays. I don't ever remember thinking 'boooo, bloody Mid Wales, I wish I was in Rome/Athens/L.A!' I was happy with what I had.

I do think teenagers (some of them!) are more shallow/ungrateful post 2000 than we were in the 1980s/1970s... and before.... Even my own DD pulled a face when we turned up in an older car (17 years old) after selling our 6 year old car because it turned out to be a gas guzzler.

We bought an older one, (for £1000) temporarily, because we weren't sure which car to go for, and she said 'how utterly embarrassing, being picked up from college in THIS crappy old thing!' Confused (This was circa mid 2010s.) We said 'well duh, get the bus then!' She said 'not likely, it takes an hour to get home on the bus, it's only 15 minutes in the car!'

'Crappy old thing,' but good enough to ferry her about in!

Kids! 😂

It was Audrey's fault! I say, she's responsible for Fred falling off his perch! Angry

Even Ashley said at the end that she killed him! The stress caused him to have a stroke! As you say, poor Fred. And poor Bev. And poor Ashley! Sad

Yeah, I was impressed at how Fred/John Savident actually did look dead! His expression didn't change, his face didn't move, and you couldn't see him breathing! Thankfully, the lovely John didn't die for another 18 years.

It’s a shame he wanted to leave. Him and Bev made a lovely couple and they could have had a nice life off screen with maybe the occasional appearance

Yes I was really quite annoyed with Audrey ,only telling fred
she had feelings for him as he was about to marry someone else
I mean she was married to Alf so she knows full.well beauty ,s only skin deep and she adored Alfie
Plus Alf though lovab!e in his own way was quite stuffy compared to Fred,I say Fred.

Well yeah, how strange for Audrey to not be 'attracted' to Fred, when she was attracted to Alf. They were both portly - fairly average looking - chaps! But yeah, how annoying that she only ever wanted him when he was with someone else. And how brutal and cruel what she did was! Messing with Fred's head and causing him stress. And now Bev, Ashley, and Claire too. And Joshua and Thomas will never know their grandfather!

Remember when Fred was married to Linda Syke's mum (the one who married Mike Baldwin when he was old enough to be her dad!) She was awful I thought. Really coarse and a bit sour. Bev's lovely. Very pretty too. Nice smile. I thought she looked lovely in that wedding dress. Claire looked nice too. Proper glow up! Much better than the dowdy, frumpy look she usually has!

Oh yes, he did!

And Lewis did too (Nigel havers was it, around 7 years ago...) How does the woman keep getting so many marriage proposals? 😆I've only ever had one - my DH, and I said yes and I dragged him down the aisle married him before he could change his mind! 😂
