CLASSIC CORRIE THREAD. Now in June 2006.

SabreIsMyFave · 26/03/2025 13:51

Well here we are, a new thread a full year (almost) after the last one. Almost 2 years have passed (in Classic Corrie) since the start of the last thread (we were at September 2004, and it's now June 2006.)

So we have Keith still in it, about to be booted out of his house, after trying to get one over on Charlie Stubbs, who bought the house Keith is living in and gave him notice to move out. (And Keith and Audrey are finished now.)

Steve's girlfriend Ronnie appears to trying to set Steve up for the hit and run that she did in a Streetcars taxi.

Lloyd - Steve's new Streetcars partner has been dating Kelly Crabtree, who has recently been set up for a theft she didn't do by street newcomer Becky. In a drunken stupor, Kelly slept with Steve!

Janice is back (much to Cilla's disgust!)

Leanne and Danny have just got engaged. (Though Danny clearly is still in love with his ex wife Frankie...) Frankie has gone off to Spain leaving Nathan (her new fella) moping around without her. Les adopting Chesney has recently been approved.

Dev's 'long lost' daughter Amber has just moved in with him in his flat. And Dev is making the house he bought for him and Sunita, nice, in the hope that she will return soon with the baby twins (Asha and Aadi.)

Poor Ashley is fighting in court to keep his own son, after the 'bio father' (Matt) turned up trying to make a claim on him FOUR years after his birth, and after FOUR years of having nothing to do with him, (he wants him now because his new wife can't have children!) Ashley's wife Claire is quite heavily pregnant.

Sean has just recently met his dad, who was very cold and had a very unwelcoming wife when he went to see him. His dad came to Coronation Street shortly after to see Sean, but bottled out very quickly and drove off before Sean could see him. Sean prays he comes back.

We still have Blanche in it, being her nosey intrusive self, and also the equally nosey and intrusive Norris. Rita got caught in Norris's wardrobe recently after he had brought a woman home who he'd met in a lonely hearts club. That only lasted 5 minutes though after Norris decided he is better off alone!

Not much going on with the Barlows at the moment, apart from Tracey using everyone she can to look after Amy so she doesn't have to! And Gail is resuming normality as much as possible, after discovering that her son David was the one sending greetings cards signed 'Richard Hillman' for the past few months. David's punishment is to work at Audrey's salon. (Must be how he started working with hair!'

Sarah and Jason are due to be married, and Sarah is super excited about it. Jason, not so much. Sally and Kevin finally accepted the relationship with their daughter Rosie and her boyfriend Craig (the goth.) After many MANY months of resistance, and Rosie becoming a goth too. Rosie and Craig have recently de-gothed themselves though!

Oh, and we recently lost long-standing character Mike Baldwin who died of a massive heart attack. (April 2006.) Sad

I'm sure I've missed bits out, but I think these are the main bits for now. Grin

Let's see where it's all at when this thread finishes!

Did they really use duvets on hospital beds back then?!

JewelleryCat · 26/02/2026 12:24

Yes @SabreIsMyFave that is wrong of Michelle. I get she might want to bond with Alex but it’s like she’s forgetting she has Ryan and I feel sorry for him because he still needs her as well

Yes absolutely, Michelle is handling this very badly. She’s also v jealous of the other mum, who hasn’t even tried to get Ryan on side. It’s obvs a v difficult situation but if I was the other mum I’d be raging at Michelle and im
sure Michelle would go mad if she had tried to get Ryan to go and live with her!!

eggandonion · 26/02/2026 13:02

Luckily the other mum doesn't screech! Imagine two screeches.

I used to be a mental health nurse and they certainly used them on mental health wards but they had a plastic cover on them which cant have been very nice for the patients
I cant speak for other wards , although I dont think I remember them on maternity when I had my boys in 2006 and 2010 🤔

So violet had her baby in about half an hour like always happens on soaps. Wish that had happened to me!!

Yeah,😆 I have never known any woman have a baby that quickly. (In real life!)

I know right. I feel for the other mum. It's like Michelle is enjoying the drama, and Alex wanting to be with her/near her. She has a certain smugness about her.

So Alex gets to stay ANOTHER week at the Rovers! 🙄 Despite locking Amy in the yard, and her disappearing! (And him locking everyone out of the pub and behaving like a complete twit!) Why is Steve allowing this to happen? Looks like Ryan has gone to stay with Uncle Liam, who seems to be a better parent to Ryan than Michelle at the moment.

Sean was so pushy with Violet and Jamie, and now he wants his name on the birth certificate (as the father.) He is driving them away!

David has got such a cheek keeping Gail out of her own home! (So he can have time with Tina!) Like heck would I be doing what she's doing! Why don't they go to Tina's?!

Can’t help but disagree about Sean. He’s surely got every right to be on the birth certificate. I know hes really annoying but violet knew this and agreed to have a baby with him and now she’s basically just changed her mind now she’s found another dad for the baby. Even calling the baby James for a middle name. I can’t stand her or Jamie anymore.

Oh I agree as annoying as sean is he's Dylans father
Violet can't just decide he isn't
Jamie isn't the Dad and he never will be.

SabreIsMyFave · 26/02/2026 20:45

Fair enough comments about Sean being the baby daddy, but the problem is (IMO) that he is (and was from the start) a sperm donor. He and Violet weren't in a relationship, and there was always a risk that Violet would meet a man and get into a relationship with him, and Sean would get sidelined... And it has happened.

That said, it is a shame for Sean, and maybe Violet would have put him as the baby daddy if she had not got back with Jamie, but Sean does appear to be a bit domineering and OTT (IMO.)

I guess he is just excited, and he isn't doing anything wrong, but as long as he is not on the birth certificate, and not married to Violet, he has no rights to the baby. That's the risk he took sadly.

All that said, I think it is a bit of a shame that Sean is about to get pushed out altogether, and I think Violet and Jamie are being harsh by leaving altogether. I am sure Sean would have calmed down after a while.

All JMO. Smile

Happy to be proved wrong but I really thought the arrangement was more than for Sean to simply be the donor when they made the decision to go ahead with it. I really feel the agreement was more than that, that he would be the dad

Hmmm, thinking about it @Shoecamp I think it was agreed between Violet and Sean that they would both be there for the baby, (in the early stages) but I can't remember (when they did the turkey baster thing! 😬) if it was agreed that they would raise the baby together (as a platonic couple, and him as the dad IYSWIM.)

And Violet got very irritated with Sean as soon as she discovered she was pregnant, as he was quite intense, and was fussing around her like a mother hen, before she even started to show.

Then when Jamie came on the scene, she was trying to distance herself from Sean even more, and seemed to get even more annoyed by him - even him breathing seemed to annoy her! (I did feel for him a bit actually.)

And as I said, with them not being an actual couple, there was a risk Violet could meet a man and Sean would get sidelined/pushed out.

Like you though, I am happy to be proved wrong. Smile Maybe a few other posters have a better memory and can remember exactly what the arrangement was between Sean and Violet (when they agreed Sean would let Violet have his sperm to enable her to become a mother.) Did they both make an agreement to raise the baby together? Did Violet promise Sean he could always be the dad, and always be there for the baby?

I did just think Sean was a sperm donor, who was letting his mate (Violet) have his sperm, and no promises were made by Violet... But I may be misremembering things! Grin

Did Violet and Sean ever have anything in writing regarding the baby? I know Sean saw a solicitor once then didn’t go again

I thought sean was going to be the Dad but violet would be the main parent, with sean visting etc ?
Obviously it was never going to work but Violet and Jamie are being very selfish Jamie isn't the Dad however much he night want to be
Wethr violet puts sean on the birth certificate or not, doesnt really matter he can apply t9 go on ,and it would be illegal for them to put Jamie down as Dad. .

Yes this is how I remember it really. That violet would be the main parent but that Sean would be involved too. Yesterday you could see violet was about to lose her shit because Sean was buying champagne to celebrate!! I can’t help but feel she’s a massive brat and it doesn’t get better if I remember right. And Jamie! Who treated violet terribly when they were together the first time round, and now is the “dad”. Interesting that Dylan goes to live with Sean years later in normal Corrie

Ah ha, thank you. Yes, it looks like I was misremembering, and it's coming back to me a little bit now after what you (and several others have said.) In my head Sean was just helping Violet, and I couldn't recall the part where they'd said they'd do it together. (Me and my old brain

And yeah I do think Jamie and Violet are being selfish. As I said, it's harsh on Sean to just take Dylan away. And as I said earlier, I do wonder if Violet would have put Sean on the birth certificate if she had not got back with Jamie.

Thank you. Smile Yes, as I said, I think I have misremembered. Possibly because - as you said - Sean got excited from the start (understandable I guess) and Violet started to get annoyed with him quite quickly, so in my head it was Sean at fault, as he was a bit annoying and intense. BUT, Violet has no right to take Dylan away, because as you and several others have said/clarified, they were going to do it together... (It was a bit of a risk, in case Violet did meet someone else, but she didn't have to leave the area and deprive Sean of seeing Dylan at all!)

And you're absolutely right, Jamie cheated on Violet with his stepmum, and now Violet has welcomed him back with open arms and wants him to be the dad.

I think any man can be a dad, even if he shares no DNA with the child, if he is there for the child and helps raise him (and if the birth dad doesn't want to know.) But in this instance it's not on, because Dylan has a birth dad (Sean) who is there, and is desperate to be there for Dylan in the future. I can't remember what happens in the coming few years but I hope Jamie leaves Violet (soon!) He has done it before!

Awww, I felt so sorry for Sean today. 😢 He is going to be so heartbroken when he finds out Violet and Jamie have gone. Unless he manages to get to them before they get away. Violet's sister Lauren has gone mad at them for trying to sneak off, and she's gone off to tell Sean! Violet and Jamie promised Sean that he could be on the birth certificate as well (when they have no intention of putting him on there,) and he looked thrilled.

What Marcus did was a bit off though (IMO,) telling people that Violet had cancelled her midwife appointments. I'm sure he must be breaking some data protection law. He came close to doing that when Sean tricked him into telling him the sex of the baby. Sean has been a bit naughty and a bit intense and pushy at times, but what Violet and Jamie are doing is plain cruel. Sean was never cruel or mean, just excited and a bit OTT occasionally, but he doesn't deserve to be pushed out.

Also, as a poster said further back, they wouldn't be able to put Jamie down as the father. It's illegal. It's fraudulent.

As I said earlier, I hope Jamie dumps Violet, and soon!
