CLASSIC CORRIE THREAD. Now in June 2006.

Well here we are, a new thread a full year (almost) after the last one. Almost 2 years have passed (in Classic Corrie) since the start of the last thread (we were at September 2004, and it's now June 2006.)

So we have Keith still in it, about to be booted out of his house, after trying to get one over on Charlie Stubbs, who bought the house Keith is living in and gave him notice to move out. (And Keith and Audrey are finished now.)

Steve's girlfriend Ronnie appears to trying to set Steve up for the hit and run that she did in a Streetcars taxi.

Lloyd - Steve's new Streetcars partner has been dating Kelly Crabtree, who has recently been set up for a theft she didn't do by street newcomer Becky. In a drunken stupor, Kelly slept with Steve!

Janice is back (much to Cilla's disgust!)

Leanne and Danny have just got engaged. (Though Danny clearly is still in love with his ex wife Frankie...) Frankie has gone off to Spain leaving Nathan (her new fella) moping around without her. Les adopting Chesney has recently been approved.

Dev's 'long lost' daughter Amber has just moved in with him in his flat. And Dev is making the house he bought for him and Sunita, nice, in the hope that she will return soon with the baby twins (Asha and Aadi.)

Poor Ashley is fighting in court to keep his own son, after the 'bio father' (Matt) turned up trying to make a claim on him FOUR years after his birth, and after FOUR years of having nothing to do with him, (he wants him now because his new wife can't have children!) Ashley's wife Claire is quite heavily pregnant.

Sean has just recently met his dad, who was very cold and had a very unwelcoming wife when he went to see him. His dad came to Coronation Street shortly after to see Sean, but bottled out very quickly and drove off before Sean could see him. Sean prays he comes back.

We still have Blanche in it, being her nosey intrusive self, and also the equally nosey and intrusive Norris. Rita got caught in Norris's wardrobe recently after he had brought a woman home who he'd met in a lonely hearts club. That only lasted 5 minutes though after Norris decided he is better off alone!

Not much going on with the Barlows at the moment, apart from Tracey using everyone she can to look after Amy so she doesn't have to! And Gail is resuming normality as much as possible, after discovering that her son David was the one sending greetings cards signed 'Richard Hillman' for the past few months. David's punishment is to work at Audrey's salon. (Must be how he started working with hair!'

Sarah and Jason are due to be married, and Sarah is super excited about it. Jason, not so much. Sally and Kevin finally accepted the relationship with their daughter Rosie and her boyfriend Craig (the goth.) After many MANY months of resistance, and Rosie becoming a goth too. Rosie and Craig have recently de-gothed themselves though!

Oh, and we recently lost long-standing character Mike Baldwin who died of a massive heart attack. (April 2006.) Sad

I'm sure I've missed bits out, but I think these are the main bits for now. Grin

Let's see where it's all at when this thread finishes!

I have been watching classic corrie since they were showing the late 1980s. I definitely think that the 80s and 90s were brilliant drama with the right mix of humour, big storylines and character led drama. The Richard Hillman storyline was also fantastic with great writing and acting. So I agree that 2006/7 is the beginning of the decline. I actually wish ITV would go back to showing from the late 80s again as we get two classic corrie years for every actual year due to two episodes each week day. They could start from just after Hilda Ogden left.

I agree with this. But I wish they would start Classic Corrie again at around 1973-1975. I would LOVE to see it played out from the mid 1970s when I first started watching it.

And I also agree that the mid noughties was when it started to go downhill... I remember reading posts on the Loose Women and Digital Spy forums (around 2007 to 2008,) about how daft it was getting, and how silly the storylines were getting. A particularly silly one comes up featuring Michelle in late 2007/early 2008. It plays out for a few months (a big storyline,) and after that it's never mentioned again. (Like a lot of Corrie storylines, like Kevin's son losing his foot!)

Then we have all the long lost relatives turning up out of nowhere (that have never been mentioned, like ever.) And people turning out to be related when they didn't know they were (like Carla with the Connors!) And the very silly 'walk into the street and get somewhere to live, and a job all in the same day' storyline has been played out over and over again! (For a good couple of decades now actually!)

Yes it always annoys me thst there are loads of fully trained machinists, thst just happen to be looking for work
A friend of mine used you be s machinist and it's not as easy as it looks ,she did some piece work from home so I used to sit and chat with her when she worked
Plus you would have to be up to speed.

Yeah, that's right. And fully trained mechanics too. Nathan - in Classic Corrie walked into a job with Kevin. So did Tommy Harris, and Freddie (played by Derek Griffiths,) and Luke Britton (from the mid 2010s.) And some men have just walked right into jobs as builders too, and the women always walk into jobs at the Rovers, or the bistro, or (as you said,) the factreh. And they have a habit of walking into a job as a hairdresser too, (at Audrey's!) despite often not being trained! And there's often a job going at Roy's caff! If only real life was like that!!!

But they aren’t trained machinists are they? Didn’t Becky start work there as a cleaner and then just start on the machines?

Sabre do you mean Ryan and Ali story?? As that is mentioned again years later when Ali comes back!

eggandonion · 23/05/2025 23:09

I did like Dr Ali.

UrsulasHerbBag · 24/05/2025 10:44

My mum is an excellent seamstress and has several machines, she’s a hobbiest really and she has tried to show me how to make my own clothes. I am utterly cack handed, useless, it’s bloody harder than it looks. I’m rubbish at cleaning and hair too so I would have to wait on at the bistro or Roy’s Rolls. When will Jaimie admit who he is really in love with? Also when will the young men get new haircuts? They are distracting me with their awfulness.

CorporaINobbyNobbs · 24/05/2025 11:59

I think I’d have to work in the Rovers. Could you be a cab driver Ursula? I wouldn’t mind Eileen’s job on the switch.

CorporaINobbyNobbs · 24/05/2025 12:01

I could be the new Fat Brenda

thenightsky · 24/05/2025 12:02

When will Jaimie admit who he is really in love with?

He fessed up in yesterday's episode, to Sean. Sean was disgusted.

Adam’s hair is really getting out of control! Keep expecting it to walk off his head.

I think this storyline is worse that Martin and Katy tbh she's brought him up since he was little its grim.

Yes, that's the one. Once 'Ali' left, I don't recall anyone ever mentioning it again. (Did he come back.. Ali?) I can't remember that.

Yeah I agree with that. Frankie has been his mum since he was about 5 or so. It's beyond grim. Frankie and Danny were together 20 years, and Jamie is only about 24-25 now (in Classic Corrie.) So yeah, Jamie was barely more than a toddler really when Frankie became his stepmum.

Oh yeah that's true. As @UrsulasHerbBag said, being a machinist/seamstress is not like picking up a broom and sweeping the floor. It's quite difficult to learn.

He came back in recent years - was going out with Maria? There was also something to do with drugs….he was a doctor

CorporaINobbyNobbs · 24/05/2025 18:31

Was he addicted to something and prescribing it to himself?? Gary was also involved somehow.

CorporaINobbyNobbs · 24/05/2025 18:32

I obviously can’t really remember either 😀

SabreIsMyFave · 24/05/2025 20:26

Yeah I don't remember this at all @CorporaINobbyNobbs 😆

Oh well, when/if it happens as you say, (when Classic Corrie catches up with it,) it will all be new to me! 😂

I dont really watch modern corrie apart from when i visit my dad was there last night craigs death very sad
But i do vaguley remember michelles " other son" coming back she called him Ali,and he was a dr ,like @CorporaINobbyNobbs i think he was an addict or somehing🤔

Getupat8amnow · 25/05/2025 06:36

I would definitely like classic corrie to go back to the days of Percy Sugden, Maud Grimes, Bet Lynch etc. They could call in Vintage Corrie and have it running alongside Classic Corrie. It could start from 1975. I would definitely stop watching modern corrie if they did as modern corrie is basically a crime show with characters we dont care about or really know.

UrsulasHerbBag · 25/05/2025 08:16

Aha! Finally caught up! He’s admitted it’s his step mum he’s in love with! His brothers actual mum! Awful. Poor Violet. I loved classic corrie from about 5 years (2020) it was all Bet Lynch and Percy Sugden and it was Brilliant. I wonder if they will just restart it in a few years when they’ve caught up? I hope so.

CherryogDog · 27/05/2025 10:33

I liked the older stories too, Michelle arriving was the start of me not enjoying it so much. I stopped watching it when she was constantly screeching in those awful gangster storylines.
