CLASSIC CORRIE THREAD. Now in June 2006.

Well here we are, a new thread a full year (almost) after the last one. Almost 2 years have passed (in Classic Corrie) since the start of the last thread (we were at September 2004, and it's now June 2006.)

So we have Keith still in it, about to be booted out of his house, after trying to get one over on Charlie Stubbs, who bought the house Keith is living in and gave him notice to move out. (And Keith and Audrey are finished now.)

Steve's girlfriend Ronnie appears to trying to set Steve up for the hit and run that she did in a Streetcars taxi.

Lloyd - Steve's new Streetcars partner has been dating Kelly Crabtree, who has recently been set up for a theft she didn't do by street newcomer Becky. In a drunken stupor, Kelly slept with Steve!

Janice is back (much to Cilla's disgust!)

Leanne and Danny have just got engaged. (Though Danny clearly is still in love with his ex wife Frankie...) Frankie has gone off to Spain leaving Nathan (her new fella) moping around without her. Les adopting Chesney has recently been approved.

Dev's 'long lost' daughter Amber has just moved in with him in his flat. And Dev is making the house he bought for him and Sunita, nice, in the hope that she will return soon with the baby twins (Asha and Aadi.)

Poor Ashley is fighting in court to keep his own son, after the 'bio father' (Matt) turned up trying to make a claim on him FOUR years after his birth, and after FOUR years of having nothing to do with him, (he wants him now because his new wife can't have children!) Ashley's wife Claire is quite heavily pregnant.

Sean has just recently met his dad, who was very cold and had a very unwelcoming wife when he went to see him. His dad came to Coronation Street shortly after to see Sean, but bottled out very quickly and drove off before Sean could see him. Sean prays he comes back.

We still have Blanche in it, being her nosey intrusive self, and also the equally nosey and intrusive Norris. Rita got caught in Norris's wardrobe recently after he had brought a woman home who he'd met in a lonely hearts club. That only lasted 5 minutes though after Norris decided he is better off alone!

Not much going on with the Barlows at the moment, apart from Tracey using everyone she can to look after Amy so she doesn't have to! And Gail is resuming normality as much as possible, after discovering that her son David was the one sending greetings cards signed 'Richard Hillman' for the past few months. David's punishment is to work at Audrey's salon. (Must be how he started working with hair!'

Sarah and Jason are due to be married, and Sarah is super excited about it. Jason, not so much. Sally and Kevin finally accepted the relationship with their daughter Rosie and her boyfriend Craig (the goth.) After many MANY months of resistance, and Rosie becoming a goth too. Rosie and Craig have recently de-gothed themselves though!

Oh, and we recently lost long-standing character Mike Baldwin who died of a massive heart attack. (April 2006.) Sad

I'm sure I've missed bits out, but I think these are the main bits for now. Grin

Let's see where it's all at when this thread finishes!

Ryan looks more of a Connor than Alistair- he's got shares in the same pot of black hair dye!

Today’s episodes really made me cry!

thecatdidit · 09/02/2026 22:28

I remembered how much Jack grieves over the loss of his swamp duck Vee. But I could've sworn there was a slow dance scene between Jack and Vera. Perhaps that happens when Jack dies. Sorry if this is a future spoiler.

Middlemarch123 · 10/02/2026 00:07

Michelle’s doing my head in, too shouty and I think Steve’s doing well to put up with her.
Vera’s death was poignant and handled well. But I absolutely know, from sad personal experience, that neither doctor nor the paramedic would be able to give cause of death. A post mortem would establish that, and the coroner would be informed, prior to the pm. He would contact GP, and he would then decide whether to order a pm. Death certificate needs agreeing by officials. It wouldn’t be done so quickly, on word of mouth by relatives. Implausible.

Yes its when Jack dies another very emotional scene.

Would that be becsuse it was a sudden death ?
I know when my mum died she had been unwell for a few weeks with a chest infection and had seen the Dr the day before
There was no pm and the cause of death was given as pneumonia

Agree about the Connor’s and Michelle being aggressive. She’s been like since she appeared and it is annoying. I don’t mind Liam as a character but Michelle is awful, Carla is awful (at the mo), Paul was awful. And the storyline with Ryan is sensationalist and yes this all marks the end of good Corrie for me. It’s a real shame

I so agree with this.
I fast forward through Michelle’s scenes now. She is so screechy and the swapped baby storyline has just gone on too long.
I’m afraid Kym is a very limited actress.
Liam is great. Steve is great but Michelle’s aggression is tiresome.
Maria is ridiculously possessive about Liam.
Violet’s pointless sister can go as well!
Like other posters I can definitely see the downhill slide starting, and I would love Classic Corrie to start back in the 70s now.

Yes, a sudden death at home is referred to the coroner, he/she then consults with the GP etc. Coroner then decides to do a p m if in doubt. Police always attend a sudden death at home. There was a police car with the ambulance outside Jack and Vera’s. The point I clumsily tried to make is that it can take a day or two before cause of death is confirmed. Yes, it was probably her heart, but they don’t usually confirm it so quickly, on the spot if you see what I’m saying. And the police take statements, long statements, before the undertakers remove the body.

eggandonion · 10/02/2026 08:34

I watched classics during lockdown when it was great...now I watch occasionally. Classics rewind would be better than stumbling on to present day!

Ah yes that makes sense my mum died at home but it wasent really unexpected and she had seen the Gp the day before
And it was District nurse that confirmed her death.

I do vaguely remember the Claytons our Terreh got Andrea pregnant and they did a moonlight flit leaving our Terreh and vera heartbroken as they didn't want them to have anything to do with baby Paul
Paul needed a kidney ?
Transplant in 2000 so Andrea got back in touch with the Duckworths as non of the Clayton, s were a match
Jack paid our Terreh to donate his kidney but at the last minute he did a runner and chickened out leaving Vera to donate hers

Ah ha, thank you for that. Yes, it's coming back to me a bit now!

Just got to the Vera episode 😢 I remember bawling my eyes out to this first time around - it's no less sad now.

I got so excited this morning when I signed into Disney+ and Coronation Street was there. Alas it is only the last five episodes. I'm definitely seeing the dip in quality now and would have happily started at the beginning again if it was available.

There's quite a lot of old episodes on YouTube. I'm watching the 90s, Daniel and Rosie have just been born, Derek's getting fit, Raquel has called off her wedding to Curly.
No gangsters, no shrieking!

SabreIsMyFave · 10/02/2026 20:12

@CherryogDog it was good then wasn't it?! I loved Raquel, and Curly was one of my favourite characters too!

@SabreIsMyFave yes! And Bet Lynch/Gilroy, loved her.

CherryogDog · 10/02/2026 20:28

Was that nurse Colette from Emmerdale? Sounded like her.

CherryogDog · 10/02/2026 22:57

Claudette

UrsulasHerbBag · 11/02/2026 12:54

Poor old Jack! I was so glad she was content when she passed and so glad she had a peaceful death and not mown down by a drug dealer with an AK47. When Jack sang to her it was touching, she always wanted him to tell her he loved her but she didn’t need him to because she knew she was his one and only little swamp duck. I was touched by Tyrone giving Paul a hug and comforting him.
Carla is behaving like a nasty home wrecking cow. Maria is pregnant, she knows this, it says a hell of a lot about a woman who pursues a man with a pregnant girlfriend.

Poor jack is lost
My Dad was the same when my mum died he has said he never said he loved her hbut he absolutely did and was heartbroken when she died just like Jack
I think its quite realistic for that generation
They might not have said the words but the love was there.

Agree with all of this. Vera did seem like she died at peace, and yes, Jack did love her very much really. And yes, it was nice that Tyrone gave Paul a hug. This kind of thing (grief/deaths) brings people together.

And yes to bloody Carla. She is acting like such a vile cow. Like you said, it's the worst kind of woman who pursues a man with a pregnant girlfriend (or wife!) I did laugh though, when she was trying to get Liam to stay in the (only) double room they had, and Tony Gordon turned up hahahahahahahaaaaa! 😆

Liam went home to Maria.

What would have happened though if Tony hadn't turned up? 🤔

R Terreh! There's going to be shenanigans.

x2boys · 12/02/2026 21:28

Ah jack that was very emotional.
I really felt for Jack doing the Eulogy
Ime and I have been to a few funerals recently its usually another family member
He loved his little swamp duck.

thecatdidit · 12/02/2026 21:41

I'm getting to the stage where I'm not really interested in the storylines. But, unless I'm misremembering, there's quite a major one involving Rosie.

Yeah, poor Jack, he was broken at the end wasn't he? 😢

I have been to 2 funerals this past 3 weeks, one extended family member, and a sibling of a good friend of mine. Both were only in their 50s. It's been a rough few weeks. Both funerals were very emotional as both deaths were untimely and unexpected. Vera was a bit older, (71-72) but her death was also unexpected. When this happens you feel angry and cheated ... I guess the anger will hit Jack soon. He will feel like he should have had more time with her. More of a warning that she was going to leave him.

What a parasite Terry is, trying to make sure that the house stays in the family (in other words, making sure it goes to him...) Jack isn't daft though. He saw straight through him...

Carla is awful isn’t she. She pursues Peter relentlessly later on when he’s engaged/married to Leanne and Leanne was supposed to be her best mate.

sorry for your losses Sabre
