CLASSIC CORRIE THREAD. Now in June 2006.

SabreIsMyFave · 26/03/2025 13:51

Well here we are, a new thread a full year (almost) after the last one. Almost 2 years have passed (in Classic Corrie) since the start of the last thread (we were at September 2004, and it's now June 2006.)

So we have Keith still in it, about to be booted out of his house, after trying to get one over on Charlie Stubbs, who bought the house Keith is living in and gave him notice to move out. (And Keith and Audrey are finished now.)

Steve's girlfriend Ronnie appears to trying to set Steve up for the hit and run that she did in a Streetcars taxi.

Lloyd - Steve's new Streetcars partner has been dating Kelly Crabtree, who has recently been set up for a theft she didn't do by street newcomer Becky. In a drunken stupor, Kelly slept with Steve!

Janice is back (much to Cilla's disgust!)

Leanne and Danny have just got engaged. (Though Danny clearly is still in love with his ex wife Frankie...) Frankie has gone off to Spain leaving Nathan (her new fella) moping around without her. Les adopting Chesney has recently been approved.

Dev's 'long lost' daughter Amber has just moved in with him in his flat. And Dev is making the house he bought for him and Sunita, nice, in the hope that she will return soon with the baby twins (Asha and Aadi.)

Poor Ashley is fighting in court to keep his own son, after the 'bio father' (Matt) turned up trying to make a claim on him FOUR years after his birth, and after FOUR years of having nothing to do with him, (he wants him now because his new wife can't have children!) Ashley's wife Claire is quite heavily pregnant.

Sean has just recently met his dad, who was very cold and had a very unwelcoming wife when he went to see him. His dad came to Coronation Street shortly after to see Sean, but bottled out very quickly and drove off before Sean could see him. Sean prays he comes back.

We still have Blanche in it, being her nosey intrusive self, and also the equally nosey and intrusive Norris. Rita got caught in Norris's wardrobe recently after he had brought a woman home who he'd met in a lonely hearts club. That only lasted 5 minutes though after Norris decided he is better off alone!

Not much going on with the Barlows at the moment, apart from Tracey using everyone she can to look after Amy so she doesn't have to! And Gail is resuming normality as much as possible, after discovering that her son David was the one sending greetings cards signed 'Richard Hillman' for the past few months. David's punishment is to work at Audrey's salon. (Must be how he started working with hair!'

Sarah and Jason are due to be married, and Sarah is super excited about it. Jason, not so much. Sally and Kevin finally accepted the relationship with their daughter Rosie and her boyfriend Craig (the goth.) After many MANY months of resistance, and Rosie becoming a goth too. Rosie and Craig have recently de-gothed themselves though!

Oh, and we recently lost long-standing character Mike Baldwin who died of a massive heart attack. (April 2006.) Sad

I'm sure I've missed bits out, but I think these are the main bits for now. Grin

Let's see where it's all at when this thread finishes!

Poor Jack as well. He sounded so broken

Poor Jack as well. He sounded so broken

I know so sad 😞
He reminded me of my Dad when my mum died, he was absolutely heartbroken
Despite everything Jack and Vera really loved each other.

SabreIsMyFave · 06/02/2026 20:12

Awwww, it's the end of an era. 😢 R.I.P. Vera Duckworth. What's Jack going to do without her?! Flowers

I knew Vera died before Jack, but didn't know it was now (January 2008.) I felt like it was another 3-4 years yet. I was like 😱

Carla's still being loathsome and bitchy. I don't remember her being this nasty. I wonder what she was up to at the end of episode 2 today? Was she cancelling Liam and Maria's Honeymoon Suite at the hotel they've booked?

I really don't like Roger (Janice's miserable bloke.) Also don't like Violet's sister. Can't see the point of her at all.

I had thought they said they needed to book a hotel room for some work trip ?
Liam said single rooms and Carla has " accidentally " booked a double room.
Yeah both Roger the lodger and lauren seem utterly pointless.

Oh is that what she has done? Booked a double for her and Liam?! What a cow! Shock

Agreed she's horrible she has no redeeming features she's determined to split Liam and Maria up.

thenightsky · 06/02/2026 22:36

I'd forgotten that this moving to Blackpool storyline led to this. Sad Poor Vera, poor Jack.

CorporaINobbyNobbs · 06/02/2026 23:04

Same. I knew they didn’t go but I forgot why 😥

thecatdidit · 08/02/2026 07:56

Yes same here, I didn't realise Vera died this long ago.. I also thought V had a few more years. I can remember exactly what happens in the next episode though, it will make you cry (the scene lives on in my memory and this is what makes classic Corrie so good)

thecatdidit · 08/02/2026 07:59

Agree, miserable Roger needs to buck up (I believe he was more cheerful in dinnerladies)
I can't imagine my DH being put out if I wanted to host a selling party at ours, he'd probably welcome the excuse to go out/visit with his mates for the evening. Perhaps not on a day if he'd been very busy at work.

I was just wondering how they would all fitvin Janice,s flat is tiny!

PlattyCat · 09/02/2026 09:19

I got so excited this morning when I signed into Disney+ and Coronation Street was there. Alas it is only the last five episodes. I'm definitely seeing the dip in quality now and would have happily started at the beginning again if it was available.

Same here. I would love to see them restart Coronation Street from say, 1970. (On ITV preferably as many people don't have Disney+)

I remember someone saying once (on Digital Spy I think,) that they can't show it from the beginning (1960) as there's quite a few episodes from the 1960s that they haven't got. (They're just generally missing, or have been destroyed or damaged at some point.) So it would have episodes missing all over the place, and it would be hard to follow the storylines... But they seem to have them all from 1969/1970, so they could restart it from then.

It's not really 'classic' now IMO. They're up to 2008 now!

I think the rot set in when the Connors arrived and Mike Baldwin died.

Housewife2010 · 09/02/2026 16:49

Michelle is always so aggressive.

And when all the gangster shite started.

Shoecamp · 09/02/2026 17:37

Agree about the Connor’s and Michelle being aggressive. She’s been like since she appeared and it is annoying. I don’t mind Liam as a character but Michelle is awful, Carla is awful (at the mo), Paul was awful. And the storyline with Ryan is sensationalist and yes this all marks the end of good Corrie for me. It’s a real shame

eggandonion · 09/02/2026 19:26

Are the bookies lads going to be awful? I don't remember them at all.

I vaguely remember the father, but not the son.

SabreIsMyFave · 09/02/2026 19:55

I agree that the late noughties was when Corrie's decline started. You can see it starting a bit now... in Classic Corrie. And I think it did start when the Connors came into it. And yes, Michelle is a bit screechy!

Paul (Jack and Vera's grandson,) I actually can't even remember. He was born in 1986, and apparently he was in it in 2001 for a few episodes. (As well as being in it in Classic Corrie now - mid noughties...) I really don't remember him at all! Not even in the mid noughties.. I remember Tommy (who lives/lived with his maternal grandparents,) the son that Terry had with a woman called Lisa. I don't remember Paul - at all.

I looked this up just now, and it seems that Paul's mother is Andrea Clayton who was in Corrie for less than a year in 1985. I remember her vaguely to be honest. But only vaguely.

Ironically, her sister Sue - who was in it in 1985 too for about 7 months, and less than 3 dozen episodes, was played by Jane Hazlegrove who plays Bernie in current Corrie! Jane was only about 16-17 then.

Their mum and dad I remember very vaguely, but it's understandable if some people don't recall them, as they were all only in it for about 8 months or so in 1985, and only 30 to 40 episodes.

The Claytons are pictured here...

Connie (the mum,) Andrea (the older sister, Paul's mum,) Sue (the little sister played by the actress who plays Bernie now.) And Harry (the father.)

He was in bad girls too in fact I think he had a " relationship" with Shell Dockley ,who also played Frankie Baldwin.

I do vaguely remember the Claytons our Terreh got Andrea pregnant and they did a moonlight flit leaving our Terreh and vera heartbroken as they didn't want them to have anything to do with baby Paul
Paul needed a kidney ?
Transplant in 2000 so Andrea got back in touch with the Duckworths as non of the Clayton, s were a match
Jack paid our Terreh to donate his kidney but at the last minute he did a runner and chickened out leaving Vera to donate hers

Quite possibly
Jim Fenner I think ?
A fairly prolific character

eggandonion · 09/02/2026 21:45

Terry is one of my favourite baddies.
