CLASSIC CORRIE THREAD. Now in June 2006.

SabreIsMyFave · 26/03/2025 13:51

Well here we are, a new thread a full year (almost) after the last one. Almost 2 years have passed (in Classic Corrie) since the start of the last thread (we were at September 2004, and it's now June 2006.)

So we have Keith still in it, about to be booted out of his house, after trying to get one over on Charlie Stubbs, who bought the house Keith is living in and gave him notice to move out. (And Keith and Audrey are finished now.)

Steve's girlfriend Ronnie appears to trying to set Steve up for the hit and run that she did in a Streetcars taxi.

Lloyd - Steve's new Streetcars partner has been dating Kelly Crabtree, who has recently been set up for a theft she didn't do by street newcomer Becky. In a drunken stupor, Kelly slept with Steve!

Janice is back (much to Cilla's disgust!)

Leanne and Danny have just got engaged. (Though Danny clearly is still in love with his ex wife Frankie...) Frankie has gone off to Spain leaving Nathan (her new fella) moping around without her. Les adopting Chesney has recently been approved.

Dev's 'long lost' daughter Amber has just moved in with him in his flat. And Dev is making the house he bought for him and Sunita, nice, in the hope that she will return soon with the baby twins (Asha and Aadi.)

Poor Ashley is fighting in court to keep his own son, after the 'bio father' (Matt) turned up trying to make a claim on him FOUR years after his birth, and after FOUR years of having nothing to do with him, (he wants him now because his new wife can't have children!) Ashley's wife Claire is quite heavily pregnant.

Sean has just recently met his dad, who was very cold and had a very unwelcoming wife when he went to see him. His dad came to Coronation Street shortly after to see Sean, but bottled out very quickly and drove off before Sean could see him. Sean prays he comes back.

We still have Blanche in it, being her nosey intrusive self, and also the equally nosey and intrusive Norris. Rita got caught in Norris's wardrobe recently after he had brought a woman home who he'd met in a lonely hearts club. That only lasted 5 minutes though after Norris decided he is better off alone!

Not much going on with the Barlows at the moment, apart from Tracey using everyone she can to look after Amy so she doesn't have to! And Gail is resuming normality as much as possible, after discovering that her son David was the one sending greetings cards signed 'Richard Hillman' for the past few months. David's punishment is to work at Audrey's salon. (Must be how he started working with hair!'

Sarah and Jason are due to be married, and Sarah is super excited about it. Jason, not so much. Sally and Kevin finally accepted the relationship with their daughter Rosie and her boyfriend Craig (the goth.) After many MANY months of resistance, and Rosie becoming a goth too. Rosie and Craig have recently de-gothed themselves though!

Oh, and we recently lost long-standing character Mike Baldwin who died of a massive heart attack. (April 2006.) Sad

I'm sure I've missed bits out, but I think these are the main bits for now. Grin

Let's see where it's all at when this thread finishes!

@JewelleryCat yes he eventually got fired for leaking storylines I believe. He went off to Ireland with ZZ Top of The Morning ( in Corrie) and was never seen again.

If that’s happened, the ZZ Top stuff, I don’t remember seeing it but it just seems so odd how he’s just disappeared with no explanation

thecatdidit · 26/11/2025 16:30

I think Bruce Jones/Les just disappeared from our screens and I do remember Cilla saying how Les had got a job as a roadie in Ireland (to explain his absence) It was probably around 6 months ago Corrie time.

JewelleryCat · 26/11/2025 18:00

Nope, still don’t remember anything about being a roadie lol but thank you 🙂

Cilla did briefly mention ,it she said they had met someone in weatherfield arms who had offered him a job as a roadie, but it was all very vague and not believable.

I am way behind. Eileen has just gone abroad with Steve.
What month is Classic Corrie in this week ?

I think we are in October at the moment
I wouldn't rush to catch up as there is going to be a break over Xmas
As obviously everybody just loves to watch Carry on films and On the buses 🙄

JewelleryCat · 07/12/2025 15:34

I forgot about the break, I wonder why they do. I’d much rather watch Classics of Emmerdale and Corrie than Carry On films. Some are funny yes but we don’t need them on whenever Classics are off

Yes, it’s ridiculous that they suspend this for Carry On films.

John and Rosie is so gross and creepy!

John and Rosie is so gross and creepy!

It feels worse than the Martin/Katie affair.

CorporaINobbyNobbs · 12/12/2025 22:13

It really does doesn’t it? I think because at least Martin and Katie were friends first and built up to a relationship, and did actually seem to like each other, whereas John just seems opportunistic, and Rosie is just enjoying playing the “seductress”.

SabreIsMyFave · 13/12/2025 21:03

I agree, John Stape and Rosie Webster together are creepy. Why has Rosie become a sleazy kind of Lolita character now? She was never like this... She was a goth for about 3-4 years wasn't she? Why the weird (and sudden) character change?

Janice's bloke (Roger) is a miserable buggar. Why on earth did he lend £10,000 to Janice's daughter (Leanne... for her restaurant...) when they'd only been dating for a few months, and it was every last penny he had?! And he's done nothing but whinge about it since the minute he lent her the money. (About 5 months.) Glad she's give it him back now.

Also, I was feeling a bit sorry for David after he's harmed Bethany (but not on purpose,) but after he nearly killed Jason by loosening the bolts on the scaffolding, he deserves all the shit he gets. And now he's threatening to kill himself the night before Sarah and Jason's wedding! Shock

Yes, David used to be a terrifying psychopath with a Bowling for Columbine vibe.

I'm loving David I think Jack P Shephard. Is a fantastic actor, hes been horrendous but he portrays it really well imo

Just to let you know, we have about a week more of Classic Emmerdale and Corrie before the Christmas break. My tv guide shows Midsomer Murders/Poirot and other things for the break and some Carry On films too from the 22nd until my guide finishes on 2nd Jan

Do check in case I got it wrong somewhere because I can but it’s a shame there’s a break over the Christmas and New Year period for the classics. I don’t know why they do it

SabreIsMyFave · 16/12/2025 21:34

Starting to feel sorry for Sarah ... David is a coniving little shit who tried to make his family believe he tried to take his own life (and he sneakily told Sarah he faked it just to wreck hers and Jason's wedding.)

Now the wedding has been ruined, and the honeymoon too, Sarah is coming across as the bad guy, and David is presenting as the walking wounded, and has got back into Gail's and Audrey's good books. Even Jason is taking David's side! I hope it comes out soon that David loosened the bolts on the scaffolding, that resulted in Jason being hurt/ending up on crutches! Poor Sarah. Sad

I have zero recollection of Sarah and Jason being married!

I do vaguely remember David driving into the canal, but until watching these past few episodes, I didn't know why

Agree David is a conniving little shit
But I also think Sarah is a spoilt little madam who thinks the world revolves around her
I think Jason is just shocked she has zero concern about David ,or Gail paticularly whilst she insisted the wedding continued when she didn't know if he was Dead or alive ?
Where was Nick anyway ?

ThatBeverleyMacca · 17/12/2025 08:58

Yes, I wondered if I had missed a mention of why Nick wasn’t there. At least they made an excuse for Martin, though the character does seem to have totally ditched Gail, David and Sarah now he has his new wife and child.

Sadly, it is quite common for men to turn their back on their children (from a previous marriage) and have almost zero contact, when they move on and have children with another woman. Seen it happen many times. Never seen it happen with women, because if a woman leaves her husband/partner, she generally takes the children with her, and if she starts a new relationship, the new man is expected to take her and the children as a package. So they don't generally get left behind IYSWIM.

I do agree that Sarah is being a bit bratty/entitled, but being the bride, and knowing her brother (who nearly killed her daugher, and also her fiance,) has threatened to do everything he can to distrupt the wedding, I think it's her perogative to be angry IYSWIM.

She knows David is being an arsehole, and didn't intend to kill himself. He has made it clear with his smugness, and how proud he is to have wrecked her wedding... No-one is seeing through him except Sarah .. But then, he does keep rubbing her nose in it.

I think though, as you say, they are just shocked that she wanted to carry on , and didn't care that he might be dead. That was the straw that broke the camel's back.

Anyway, David said he would wreck her wedding, and he has. He also wrecked her honeymoon. There would be no coming back from this for me. (If I was Sarah.) I don't know how things pan out, but they get on now, so they clearly made it up at some point.

David needs to brush up on his scaffold bolt loosening skills in modern Corrie. There's an evil scaffolder on there who's heading for a fall.
