CLASSIC CORRIE THREAD. Now in June 2006.

Well here we are, a new thread a full year (almost) after the last one. Almost 2 years have passed (in Classic Corrie) since the start of the last thread (we were at September 2004, and it's now June 2006.)

So we have Keith still in it, about to be booted out of his house, after trying to get one over on Charlie Stubbs, who bought the house Keith is living in and gave him notice to move out. (And Keith and Audrey are finished now.)

Steve's girlfriend Ronnie appears to trying to set Steve up for the hit and run that she did in a Streetcars taxi.

Lloyd - Steve's new Streetcars partner has been dating Kelly Crabtree, who has recently been set up for a theft she didn't do by street newcomer Becky. In a drunken stupor, Kelly slept with Steve!

Janice is back (much to Cilla's disgust!)

Leanne and Danny have just got engaged. (Though Danny clearly is still in love with his ex wife Frankie...) Frankie has gone off to Spain leaving Nathan (her new fella) moping around without her. Les adopting Chesney has recently been approved.

Dev's 'long lost' daughter Amber has just moved in with him in his flat. And Dev is making the house he bought for him and Sunita, nice, in the hope that she will return soon with the baby twins (Asha and Aadi.)

Poor Ashley is fighting in court to keep his own son, after the 'bio father' (Matt) turned up trying to make a claim on him FOUR years after his birth, and after FOUR years of having nothing to do with him, (he wants him now because his new wife can't have children!) Ashley's wife Claire is quite heavily pregnant.

Sean has just recently met his dad, who was very cold and had a very unwelcoming wife when he went to see him. His dad came to Coronation Street shortly after to see Sean, but bottled out very quickly and drove off before Sean could see him. Sean prays he comes back.

We still have Blanche in it, being her nosey intrusive self, and also the equally nosey and intrusive Norris. Rita got caught in Norris's wardrobe recently after he had brought a woman home who he'd met in a lonely hearts club. That only lasted 5 minutes though after Norris decided he is better off alone!

Not much going on with the Barlows at the moment, apart from Tracey using everyone she can to look after Amy so she doesn't have to! And Gail is resuming normality as much as possible, after discovering that her son David was the one sending greetings cards signed 'Richard Hillman' for the past few months. David's punishment is to work at Audrey's salon. (Must be how he started working with hair!'

Sarah and Jason are due to be married, and Sarah is super excited about it. Jason, not so much. Sally and Kevin finally accepted the relationship with their daughter Rosie and her boyfriend Craig (the goth.) After many MANY months of resistance, and Rosie becoming a goth too. Rosie and Craig have recently de-gothed themselves though!

Oh, and we recently lost long-standing character Mike Baldwin who died of a massive heart attack. (April 2006.) Sad

I'm sure I've missed bits out, but I think these are the main bits for now. Grin

Let's see where it's all at when this thread finishes!

I never noticed but the title has changed. It did that for Emmerdale for a few days then changed back to Classic Emmerdale so hopefully this will be the same and change back

Hmm, maybe. Smile

Was it really 2017 that itv3 started showing them? It feels like yesterday in a way when Mike had the factory and it was Ivy, Vera, Emily still worked there I think. Life seemed simpler then but I’m sure it wasn’t

Yes it was 2017. Smile I did have to Google it though, as I wasn't sure. It started with the 1986 episodes, so we've got through 21 years worth of episodes in 8 years so far!

And yes, it felt like a simpler time, the 1980s... I have really happy and fond memories of that decade. Corrie was at its best in the 1980s (and 1970s) IMO.

I was a teenager then though, and life was simpler and easier. Grin

21 years in 8 years is crazy! Oh I was a 90s baby lol but everything I’ve seen about the 70s and 80s seemed simpler (we’ll just ignore the strikes, 3 day week etc lol)

It is beyond ridiculous (and worthy of the slapdash storylines in current Corrie) that Jason - who didn't even see this woman when she appeared at the door and left her baby - would just accept that the baby is his.

Even less believable that Eileen would just be "oh ok. I've got a grandchild now. Let's just crack on with it".

And even more ludicrous that social services would entertain giving a guardianship order (?) without confirming the baby's parentage. What if Eileen had snatched a baby from a park, or shopping centre, etc and just decided to pass it off as her son's child.

I don't remember this storyline, and Holly was never mentioned in current Corrie, so I assume that the mother changes her mind and takes Holly back. Just like snaps fingers that.

I agree like social services would just leave the baby there ! They must think we were all born yesterday.

My dh was horrified by this afternoons turn of events.

Your DH and me also @eggandonion . One minute our Tracy is doing a lap dance, the next she’s bashed snarly Charlie over the head! I remember it from the first time round, but it still came out of the blue!

Yes I agree with all of this. This must be when Corrie started with the daft storylines. I must have said 3 or 4 times this past 2 weeks (to DH) 'how daft that they're taking this baby on, looking after her, forcing Jason to look after her, and having time off work, and spending loads of money on her and so on, when they don't even know if Jason is the father!'

I mean, yes if he had been proven to be the father, some people would take an interest, (including the grandmother/Eileen,) but the father could be anyone! Jason can barely remember the baby's mother, and can't even remember having sex with her. Truly silly storyline!

And yes, TracyLuv smashing Charlie on the head with that huge ornament was a bit 😱 They kept showing scenes with the ornament in the foreground, and yet I don't think I've ever noticed it before. I said to DH 'we all know what's coming!'

So i have a question I'm a few episodes behind and the social worker is at Eileen's talking about special guardianship
And she said Emma is still Holly's mum ,I don't recall the babies mum ever said her name🤔

OnTheBoardwalk · 17/07/2025 20:47

Well that was good telly. I remember the story but wasn’t watching at the time. I was worried they might cut the actual hit out of the day time showing

am looking forward to how it now all plays out

eggandonion · 17/07/2025 20:51

I don't think mammy of Holly gave her name. Maybe Jason remembered?
Charlie was wonderfully horrible. Tracyluv and Charlie deserved each other. I also feel the ridiculous stories approaching.

x2boys · 17/07/2025 21:13

Another question why is there an oven at factory?
I noticed it whilst they were all sat around having a brew ?
For one thing they either have their lunch at the rovers or have sandwiches from Roy's
Even if they took their own lunch surely a microwave and a kettle would be enough like most work places ?

Tourist29 · 18/07/2025 10:23

maybe Charlie’s used Jason’s name sometimes when out - if that means the baby is his heir rather than Tracey that will be just. Not sure if she’d inherit but she deserves nothing. Amy must have been traumatised and should have been removed.

Middlemarch123 · 18/07/2025 17:20

Today’s 2 episodes were good. Nosy Norris cracks me up, desperate to get in the house.

HurdyGurdy19 · 18/07/2025 19:52

I'm just catching up now. I've watched the first episode, but I'm going to watch tonight's Corrie before watching the second one.

However, at the end of the first episode, when Traceyluv was in the back of the police car and Deirdre told her that Charlie was still alive, did anyone notice the policeman in the hi-viz jacket standing by the car? I'm sure it was (the actor who played) John Stape!

I didn't notice the actor (Grahame Hawley who plays John Stape) in today's episode as a policeman. Maybe it was someone who looked like him? John Stape actually comes into (classic) Corrie in a few months actually.

It was a very fleeting glimpse, and someone else was hovering in front of him, so it may well not have been him.

Although actors have often appeared previously and then returned as main characters. Carla for one. Norris for another.

I am really looking forward to the hapless John Stape. In particular, his line "well she's had better days" 😂

I can't look myself at the moment, as DH is watching James Bond on ITV+1. 🙄But I will play it on ITVX later, and have a look too. 😊

Actually, I've just had another look and I don't think it is him. Just someone that looks (to me, anyway) a lot like him.

x2boys · 21/07/2025 18:15

Im not convinced of this storyline at all.
Would Tracy really believe she could get away with murder?
Just because she's convince Dreary, and Clur, she was being abused did she
really the police would believe her and not investigate ?
