CLASSIC CORRIE THREAD. Now in June 2006.

SabreIsMyFave · 26/03/2025 13:51

Well here we are, a new thread a full year (almost) after the last one. Almost 2 years have passed (in Classic Corrie) since the start of the last thread (we were at September 2004, and it's now June 2006.)

So we have Keith still in it, about to be booted out of his house, after trying to get one over on Charlie Stubbs, who bought the house Keith is living in and gave him notice to move out. (And Keith and Audrey are finished now.)

Steve's girlfriend Ronnie appears to trying to set Steve up for the hit and run that she did in a Streetcars taxi.

Lloyd - Steve's new Streetcars partner has been dating Kelly Crabtree, who has recently been set up for a theft she didn't do by street newcomer Becky. In a drunken stupor, Kelly slept with Steve!

Janice is back (much to Cilla's disgust!)

Leanne and Danny have just got engaged. (Though Danny clearly is still in love with his ex wife Frankie...) Frankie has gone off to Spain leaving Nathan (her new fella) moping around without her. Les adopting Chesney has recently been approved.

Dev's 'long lost' daughter Amber has just moved in with him in his flat. And Dev is making the house he bought for him and Sunita, nice, in the hope that she will return soon with the baby twins (Asha and Aadi.)

Poor Ashley is fighting in court to keep his own son, after the 'bio father' (Matt) turned up trying to make a claim on him FOUR years after his birth, and after FOUR years of having nothing to do with him, (he wants him now because his new wife can't have children!) Ashley's wife Claire is quite heavily pregnant.

Sean has just recently met his dad, who was very cold and had a very unwelcoming wife when he went to see him. His dad came to Coronation Street shortly after to see Sean, but bottled out very quickly and drove off before Sean could see him. Sean prays he comes back.

We still have Blanche in it, being her nosey intrusive self, and also the equally nosey and intrusive Norris. Rita got caught in Norris's wardrobe recently after he had brought a woman home who he'd met in a lonely hearts club. That only lasted 5 minutes though after Norris decided he is better off alone!

Not much going on with the Barlows at the moment, apart from Tracey using everyone she can to look after Amy so she doesn't have to! And Gail is resuming normality as much as possible, after discovering that her son David was the one sending greetings cards signed 'Richard Hillman' for the past few months. David's punishment is to work at Audrey's salon. (Must be how he started working with hair!'

Sarah and Jason are due to be married, and Sarah is super excited about it. Jason, not so much. Sally and Kevin finally accepted the relationship with their daughter Rosie and her boyfriend Craig (the goth.) After many MANY months of resistance, and Rosie becoming a goth too. Rosie and Craig have recently de-gothed themselves though!

Oh, and we recently lost long-standing character Mike Baldwin who died of a massive heart attack. (April 2006.) Sad

I'm sure I've missed bits out, but I think these are the main bits for now. Grin

Let's see where it's all at when this thread finishes!

My God... David producing that diary in the middle of Christmas dinner! I'd forgotten this storyline.

I really enjoyed the Christmas episode. It’s funny what you do and remember isn’t it? I remembered the diary, but the baby being dumped on the Grimshaws had escaped me. I really dislike Liz’s bloke, he’s creepy. David was a good character, even then, great facial expressions.

OnTheBoardwalk · 09/07/2025 20:36

I don't remember the Christmas episode (was expecting something else) but can’t believe how much was going on in the episode. So many different stories!

Loved the Christmas dinner and David

TennisWithDeborah · 10/07/2025 00:22

I remember that Christmas episode quite clearly.

Clare’s hat was insane.

Someone mentioned Our Terreh Duckworth - I remember him dancing with Hilda at a party in someone’s front room. She had a soft spot for him iirc. I didn’t realise that she wasn’t a Mancunian until I started watching Classic Corrie in 2018!

Shoecamp · 10/07/2025 06:51

I’m surprised at Audrey really. She’d only just thrown herself at Fred on his wedding day, and seemed to regret how she behaved, then immediately starts an affair with a married man.

OnTheBoardwalk · 08/07/2025 22:08

I remember him sticking up for Roy for no reason for it and he does seem to care about Jason

i suppose this is what makes them seem as 'good guys' to the outside world

I’m not sure Charlie stood up for you because he was being genuinely nice, I just think he saw someone bullying Roy and didn’t like the fact that someone was being a bully and it wasn’t him. Charlie is a classic bully and bullies don’t like other bullies.
plus Charlie’s “nice “ deeds early on, helped him ingratiate himself with people like Shelley and get his feet under the table. He’d never been able to bully and control her if he hadn’t been nice enough in the first place to get with her.
i remember Tim’s dad in modern Corrie, was lovely when he got together with Yasmin and then turned on her when she had developed strong feelings and dependency on him.
and I think Charlie saving sunita from the fire is partly this, but also that he loves his image and ego and being powerful, so sometimes doing something good, if it makes him seem
powerful and heroic also plays into his character, he wants to be admired and also feared

thecatdidit · 10/07/2025 07:48

I think someone used Jason's name and occupation at the nightclub and he isn't the Cathy. Surely the woman would check it's the right person before abandoning her baby like that (of course she wouldn't do that in the first place, but this is a soap)
TaDa

He did the same to get Maria to fall for him too.

Well you would think so but this is Corrie!

I must be blind because I never noticed Frankies pregnant tummy lol. I’ve not seen these episodes but I’m guessing someone must be telling Sophie all these things so we shall see if I’m right. Oh I do like seeing that Santa in the Kabin window lol

To be fair, she does just look like she's getting a wee bit curvy, but yeah as someone said, she has a baby in January 2007, so she is about 7 months gone now. I can't unsee it now I know. Grin

I agree, this was a very good episode today (Christmas day 2006.) And yes, David was amazing. 😆 His face when he had those deely boppers on, playing jingle bells (I think!) 😂Made me LOL. How did Gail/Helen Worth keep a straight face?!

I did find the woman dumping the baby on Eileen a bit weird. As has been said, who would do this? And how did she even know where to find Jason? Only bit today that seemed a bit weird.

I am also disgusted with Bill and Audreh! Both have behaved like utter pigs. Poor Maureen. 😢

The scene where David gives Gail Ivy's diary was so funny, but also a bit 😱

Good episode on the whole, full of drama, giggles, tears, surprises, and Christmas cheer! Hope it gets back to the kind of feelgood soap that it is in Classic Corrie. Current Corrie has lost its way a bit at the moment...........

Edited

David was fabulous he's got great comic timing the way he kept dropping hints to the oblivious Maureen😂

Poor Violet

HurdyGurdy19 · 11/07/2025 18:13

Who told Danny about Frankie and Jamie - I thought Sean was looking a bit shifty.

Is shoulder pain linked in some way to pregnancy? I assume Violet must lose the baby 😥, as it would be too old to be Dylan and he's Sean's son anyway.

He caught them in bed together. They were supposed to be meeting up or something and he came round looking for Jamie.

Shoulder pain can be a sign of an ectopic pregnancy.

the oldest Connor brother ?Paul was outside at the same time as Jamie and it looked like he overheard / saw something as he quickly made a phone call, presumably to Danny

Oh yes, sorry Hurdy I thought you meant how did Danny find out originally! Yes I think it was Paul who rang him and has been in touch with him all along!?

SabreIsMyFave · 13/07/2025 13:03

So with Danny knowing about Frankie and Jamie splitting up, was it Paul Connor who blabbed?

And yes, poor Violet. Sad

I wonder where Danny was when he rang Jamie on New Year's Eve?

I don't know but he was looking furtive
Danny always comes up smelling of roses
I hope he's told his poor mum he's alive and well.

Has anyone noticed that Classic Corrie has changed to 'Coronation Street' on the TV listings online? Shock (Not sure if it has changed in the TV magazines as I don't buy them...)

I wonder if it's because it's not so classic anymore?!

I thought that 'current Corrie' had been on and recorded instead. Nope. It is the 2007 one.

Sad that Violet lost her baby. 😢 Sean is such a good friend to her.

Still wondering where Danny was when he phoned Jamie.

Haven't watched today's episodes yet. They've recorded and I'll watch them later. Smile

That's Janice out of the show for 3 months. Bit daft that she's gone off to France with a man she's met 3 or 4 times, and only known a week though!

And Sarah deciding to play happy families with Jason and Bethany, and Jason's baby he fathered from a one night stand, who has been dumped on him over Christmas! WTF? Confused

Surely Jason would want a DNA test before playing 'daddy!' And why on EARTH would Sarah want to be with him now he has this baby from another women (who could turn up at any time?!)

A couple of bizarre storylines at the moment!

Is it something to do with the ' New year " in classic corrie world"
As it's a,different season/ series?

JewelleryCat · 15/07/2025 19:33

I never noticed but the title has changed. It did that for Emmerdale for a few days then changed back to Classic Emmerdale so hopefully this will be the same and change back

Hmmm, I don't know. But it's odd, because I have never seen it called anything other than Classic Corrie before - since it started in 2017.
