CLASSIC CORRIE THREAD. Now in June 2006.

Well here we are, a new thread a full year (almost) after the last one. Almost 2 years have passed (in Classic Corrie) since the start of the last thread (we were at September 2004, and it's now June 2006.)

So we have Keith still in it, about to be booted out of his house, after trying to get one over on Charlie Stubbs, who bought the house Keith is living in and gave him notice to move out. (And Keith and Audrey are finished now.)

Steve's girlfriend Ronnie appears to trying to set Steve up for the hit and run that she did in a Streetcars taxi.

Lloyd - Steve's new Streetcars partner has been dating Kelly Crabtree, who has recently been set up for a theft she didn't do by street newcomer Becky. In a drunken stupor, Kelly slept with Steve!

Janice is back (much to Cilla's disgust!)

Leanne and Danny have just got engaged. (Though Danny clearly is still in love with his ex wife Frankie...) Frankie has gone off to Spain leaving Nathan (her new fella) moping around without her. Les adopting Chesney has recently been approved.

Dev's 'long lost' daughter Amber has just moved in with him in his flat. And Dev is making the house he bought for him and Sunita, nice, in the hope that she will return soon with the baby twins (Asha and Aadi.)

Poor Ashley is fighting in court to keep his own son, after the 'bio father' (Matt) turned up trying to make a claim on him FOUR years after his birth, and after FOUR years of having nothing to do with him, (he wants him now because his new wife can't have children!) Ashley's wife Claire is quite heavily pregnant.

Sean has just recently met his dad, who was very cold and had a very unwelcoming wife when he went to see him. His dad came to Coronation Street shortly after to see Sean, but bottled out very quickly and drove off before Sean could see him. Sean prays he comes back.

We still have Blanche in it, being her nosey intrusive self, and also the equally nosey and intrusive Norris. Rita got caught in Norris's wardrobe recently after he had brought a woman home who he'd met in a lonely hearts club. That only lasted 5 minutes though after Norris decided he is better off alone!

Not much going on with the Barlows at the moment, apart from Tracey using everyone she can to look after Amy so she doesn't have to! And Gail is resuming normality as much as possible, after discovering that her son David was the one sending greetings cards signed 'Richard Hillman' for the past few months. David's punishment is to work at Audrey's salon. (Must be how he started working with hair!'

Sarah and Jason are due to be married, and Sarah is super excited about it. Jason, not so much. Sally and Kevin finally accepted the relationship with their daughter Rosie and her boyfriend Craig (the goth.) After many MANY months of resistance, and Rosie becoming a goth too. Rosie and Craig have recently de-gothed themselves though!

Oh, and we recently lost long-standing character Mike Baldwin who died of a massive heart attack. (April 2006.) Sad

I'm sure I've missed bits out, but I think these are the main bits for now. Grin

Let's see where it's all at when this thread finishes!

When he was talking to them, his face looked so evil and angry. Quite scary! Good actor really Bradley Walsh!

However bad Danny was having an affair with Leanne he didn't bring Leanne up and met her as a adult
So i can understand his reaction it'would be like les having an affair withToyah and les wouldnt do that its uncomfortable story line

HurdyGurdy19 · 24/06/2025 07:05

I thought the fight between Danny and Jamie was brilliantly acted, especially when Danny had Jamie by the throat, up against the van.

Why would Clare and Ashley ask Eileen to be a god parent - bizarre. Not enjoying Becky at all. Think it’s reached the point of past it’s best sadly.

I was trying to figure out the connection between Clare, Ashley and Eileen and thought it bizarre as well. What did Eileen do for Claire?

She went round to see clurr when she was ill and looked after Freddie a few times.

OnTheBoardwalk · 24/06/2025 20:27

Thanks @x2boys. Doesn’t seem a lot in exchange for a life time commitment as a god parent. No wonder Eileen doesn’t look thrilled!

Yeah I am baffled at Clurr and Ashley asking Eileen. As has been said, she only looked after Freddie a few times. And yeah it's not surprising (as a pp said) that Eileen doesn't look keen. Can Clurr not pick up on the fact that Eileen doesn't want to do it? She should just say no. I feel for Hayley too, as she looked hurt that Roy has been chosen and not her. I am also puzzled as to why Roy has been asked anyway.

And as for Becky. Yes, I'm not enjoying her either, and can't remember her being this annoying and awful. Threatening customers and getting all bolshy and arsey with them...?! No-one would keep their job after this, least of all someone who had been pilfering from the till!

And I'm not being funny but WTF is going on with Becky's accent? What's it even meant to be? I am assuming some kind of Yorkshire accent? Confused Even so, I have heard a lot of Yorkshire folk speak and have never heard it spoken like this. If she says thee-sen (as in 'get thee-sen sat there') once more, I swear I'm going to throw something at the TV! And the way she says 'rayte,' instead of 'right!' Confused It may be the case that some Yorkshire folk do speak this way, but it sounds very put on and fake from her.

Frankie and Jamie make my skin crawl. I agree with a pp that Danny having an affair with Leanne wasn't great, but Frankie and Jamie is a bit sick. As @x2boys said, it would be like Les Battersby and Toyah. It does feel like 2006 is the turning point, and the start of the decline.

Does anybody remember when the Frankie / Jamie’s storyline first aired what people’s reactions were?! I feel like it must have been really shocking when it all aired.

I’m a few behind but it seems like Xmas is around the corner! Wonder what the Xmas special will be!

Also one scene I really liked was when Noris was very kind to Bev when she was drunk at the bar. she said something like I didn’t know you had this side to you Noris, and he said something like he does have a kind side. I thought it was sweet and very subtle.

SabreIsMyFave · 24/06/2025 22:08

@Mrsplants I have a vague recollection of people thinking Jamie and Frankie was a bit grim. I remember people discussing it at work. (Back in 2006.)

Not sure where beckie, is from but yes the way she speaks sound more Yorkshire than mancunian
But then again David platt has a broad Yorkshire accent which is strange considering he was brought Up in Salford Chesney has a Lancashire which also doesn't make sense
I'm northern myself and i grew up in greater Manchester, but have family over the Lancashire, Yorkshire, and Cheshire boarder.

x2boys · 24/06/2025 22:28

And don't get me started on the Webster sisters Rosie with her refined accent and Sophie a strong mancunian accent .

To me becky speaks like someone might have spoken in some parts of Yorkshire in the first part of the last century with her sithees, sen rayte, s etc like in old last of the summer wine episodes

Yeah, it doesn't seem like ealry 2000s Yorkshire does it? As I say, I have never heard anyone from Yorkshire speak like that, and whilst I am sure some folk do, her accent /the way she speaks is very grating. I do not remember her speaking like that at all.

I have just googled the actress and apparently she's from Barnsley so.at least the accent makes sense not sure if her speech does.

I noticed that she pronounces some words in exactly the same way my father and older members of his family did (all deceased now). They were all born and brought up in the Yorkshire Dales.
