CLASSIC CORRIE THREAD. Now in June 2006.

SabreIsMyFave · 26/03/2025 13:51

Well here we are, a new thread a full year (almost) after the last one. Almost 2 years have passed (in Classic Corrie) since the start of the last thread (we were at September 2004, and it's now June 2006.)

So we have Keith still in it, about to be booted out of his house, after trying to get one over on Charlie Stubbs, who bought the house Keith is living in and gave him notice to move out. (And Keith and Audrey are finished now.)

Steve's girlfriend Ronnie appears to trying to set Steve up for the hit and run that she did in a Streetcars taxi.

Lloyd - Steve's new Streetcars partner has been dating Kelly Crabtree, who has recently been set up for a theft she didn't do by street newcomer Becky. In a drunken stupor, Kelly slept with Steve!

Janice is back (much to Cilla's disgust!)

Leanne and Danny have just got engaged. (Though Danny clearly is still in love with his ex wife Frankie...) Frankie has gone off to Spain leaving Nathan (her new fella) moping around without her. Les adopting Chesney has recently been approved.

Dev's 'long lost' daughter Amber has just moved in with him in his flat. And Dev is making the house he bought for him and Sunita, nice, in the hope that she will return soon with the baby twins (Asha and Aadi.)

Poor Ashley is fighting in court to keep his own son, after the 'bio father' (Matt) turned up trying to make a claim on him FOUR years after his birth, and after FOUR years of having nothing to do with him, (he wants him now because his new wife can't have children!) Ashley's wife Claire is quite heavily pregnant.

Sean has just recently met his dad, who was very cold and had a very unwelcoming wife when he went to see him. His dad came to Coronation Street shortly after to see Sean, but bottled out very quickly and drove off before Sean could see him. Sean prays he comes back.

We still have Blanche in it, being her nosey intrusive self, and also the equally nosey and intrusive Norris. Rita got caught in Norris's wardrobe recently after he had brought a woman home who he'd met in a lonely hearts club. That only lasted 5 minutes though after Norris decided he is better off alone!

Not much going on with the Barlows at the moment, apart from Tracey using everyone she can to look after Amy so she doesn't have to! And Gail is resuming normality as much as possible, after discovering that her son David was the one sending greetings cards signed 'Richard Hillman' for the past few months. David's punishment is to work at Audrey's salon. (Must be how he started working with hair!'

Sarah and Jason are due to be married, and Sarah is super excited about it. Jason, not so much. Sally and Kevin finally accepted the relationship with their daughter Rosie and her boyfriend Craig (the goth.) After many MANY months of resistance, and Rosie becoming a goth too. Rosie and Craig have recently de-gothed themselves though!

Oh, and we recently lost long-standing character Mike Baldwin who died of a massive heart attack. (April 2006.) Sad

I'm sure I've missed bits out, but I think these are the main bits for now. Grin

Let's see where it's all at when this thread finishes!

have people not seen these episodes first time round? I’m never sure how much to disclose about upcoming storylines!!

I did watch Corrie at that time, but I have no collection of some of the events in some storyline. Obviously I know the outcome of the Tracy/Charlie storyline but I don't remember Tracy involving Claire.

I don't remember the trip to Paris, and Rosie and Craig planning to run away together.

I didn't remember Harry, who worked in the factory and who was with Eileen for a while.

Nor do I have any recollection of the Jamie/Frankie thing. That is an awful storyline, and I assume is what leads to the Baldwins leaving the Street, clearing the way for the Connors, as some of them are already in place.

I probably did but I was heavily pregnant with my oldest son he wss born at Xmas 2006 so I had other things on my mind 🤣🤣

Mrsplants · 19/06/2025 08:06

I didn’t see all these episodes when it aired first time around I think I dipped in and out as I was quite young at the time. I remember some bits but not others.

I don’t remember much about Becky, but did you all know you can buy a DVD with a spin off story where Roy, Hayley and Becky go on holiday?! I am wondering if it would have occurred soon. Here is the Amazon link:

https://amzn.eu/d/9pMTT8f

Has anybody seen it?

Mrsplants · 19/06/2025 08:09

Ok I’ve just watched the trailer and I actually think it looks brilliant lol. I may buy it! It has a spoiler about Frankie in the trailer so don’t watch the trailer if you don’t want to see the spoiler

FlibbertyGibbitt · 19/06/2025 08:15

I can’t remember any of classic Corrie , tbh k I must have watched the Richard Hillman ditching the car with Gail and the kids . Love it though as I’m watching it from new !!!!

TennisWithDeborah · 19/06/2025 14:49

I remember odds and ends. I wasn’t an avid watcher although I did like it a lot. I recall Carla talking to Paul Connor about the possibility of manufacturing children’s dungarees, for example, so that must be imminent. I remember Tracy standing in the kitchen with a cup of tea listening pensively to “Slave to Love”. Weird little things like that.

I think that Wendi Peters leaves soon. She found the filming in Manchester too difficult I think - she had a husband and child in a different part of the UK. 2006 saw the departure of a few strong characters, the biggest losses being Fred and Mike imo.

It's a shame about cilla, leaving I have warmed to her and she has great comic timing .

JewelleryCat · 19/06/2025 15:59

That is a shame. I was wondering what was up with her today

I’m finding Bev carrying Fred’s urn around so weird that surely an accident will happen with them before they can get scattered. As an aside, why don’t they just scatter them in the garden or is that not allowed?

Mrsplants · 20/06/2025 22:43

I’m a few behind but Gail is hilarious in the parenting classes.

OnTheBoardwalk · 20/06/2025 22:52

I love the episodes of David getting a slap (yes I know a slap isn’t allowed but it is with David)

As PP said loved the recent episode when Sarah slaps him and Bethany does as well

That was funny wasn't it? 😆 I am also enjoying 'parenting class Gail' too!'

Like a pp, there are some bits of Classic Corrie that I don't remember. Harry the barman, and Tracy being pals wth Clurr, and I don't recognise Paul Connor at all. Liam yes, but not Paul.

I'm really confused about Sally's age the photo she showed Janice to prove she was a natural blonde she said was taken in 1974 at Southport funfair it actually looks like it was taken in Sally and Kevin's house which is strange 🤔, Wikipedia tells me the actress was born in 1963 so would have been 11 in 1974, assuming the character is around the same age as the actress there is no way she waa 11 on that photo she looked at least 20 .

HurdyGurdy19 · 21/06/2025 12:12

I don't remember (I say that a lot about classic Corrie 😂) Cilla's exit storyline, but I assume she's ill and going to hospital, hence her being even more awful to Chesney than usual, and not wanting Les to be near her?

Just looked it up, and Sally (the character) was born in 1967, so would have been 7 in 1974, which makes it even more batshit. 😆As you say she looked like a young adult in that photo. I may go and see if I can find that episode of Classic Corrie on ITVX later, and have a closer/longer look, but she sure looked around 19-21 to me for the second or two I saw the photo!

There's a classic corrie fscebook group ( sad i know) and somebody had screen shot the photo ,she was definitely a young adult
And since when was Southport funfair based on coronation street?🤣

SabreIsMyFave · 22/06/2025 11:06

I've got a screenshot now. I took it just now from the Classic Corrie episode from Friday... Yes, Sally is somewhere between 18 and 22 on that photo. Corrie messed up there a bit! Saying the photo was taken in 1974 when Sally (the character) was born in 1967! 😆She would have been 7 in 1974! 😆

Edited

And Gina is Sally's younger sister so if Sally was 7 in 1974 then Gina would probably been about four
Thst defintly isn't the photo of a four year old!

Well yes! 😂 Looks like she should have said 1984! Not 1974!

I thought Gina was actually 5-6 years older than Sally (when I saw her in the 2010s in it,) as she looked older than Sally IMO. Sally has always looked younger than her age though IMO. Very pretty woman.

I've never seen this @Mrsplants Don't remember it at all. I remember Fizz, Chesney, Les, and Cilla going on holiday to South Africa. They won it in a competition. I have it on DVD. Got it from Poundland about 5 years ago (for a pound.) I don't think it was ever broadcast, it just went straight to DVD.

@Mrsplants Just googled the holiday with Roy, Hayley, and Becky, and they did a similar thing for that. Their holiday was in Romania. Similar situation. Straight to DVD. No idea why they did this back then. Not on TV. You had to buy them!

The very first one was back in 1995 and depicted Racquel and Curlys honeymoon on a cruise ship. The video was advertised as never to be shown on TV but they did a year later. Details here..........https://coronationstreet.fandom.com/wiki/Coronation_Street_-_The_Feature_Length_Special
