This City Is Ours stars Sean Bean, Julie Graham and Jack McMullen and follows the big troubles of a Liverpool crime family.

the eight-part series follows Michael, a drug-trafficker who reconsiders his life after falling in love.

Sean Bean (Game of Thrones) plays Michael's boss, gang leader Ronnie Phelan, who begins eyeing retirement just as a rival organisation prepares to attack.

Michael (James Nelson-Joyce) dreams of following his boss and leaving his life of crime behind, but faces opposition from Ronnie's ruthless son Jamie (Jack McMullen), who doesn't want to share his father's criminal empire.

This City is Ours is the story of Michael, a man who for all of his adult life has been involved in organised crime... but for the first time in his life, Michael is in love. For the first time in his life, he sees beyond the day-to-day, he sees a future: something to win and something to lose — Diana. "The eight-part series tells the story of Michael and Diana's love affair, set against the disintegration of Michael’s crime gang.

For years, together with his friend Ronnie, Michael has successfully been bringing cocaine into the City and beyond, directly from Columbia; but when a shipment goes missing, then he knows their Kingdom is under attack.

"The drama explores what happens when Ronnie’s son Jamie decides he wants to inherit their kingdom and that there is no longer a place for Michael at the table.

Both Michael and Jamie have bold ideas to modernise the gang and they will battle for control of it.

But Michael’s biggest battle will be to save the woman he loves and the child he has always wanted.

"This is a story about family and love destroyed and corrupted by ambition, pride and greed. It’s a story about power: what we will do to secure and keep it."

James Nelson-Joyce (The Family Pile) will lead the cast as Michael Kavanagh, while Jack McMullen (Hijack) plays his friend and Ronnie's son, Jamie.

I will be watching, saw the trailer and was immediately in

curiositykilledthiscat · 17/03/2025 10:25

Great cast. I'll probably watch over a week starting from Sunday morning rather than watch weekly.

Blondeshavemorefun · 17/03/2025 11:27

Very good cast and do like a Sunday thriller

The link didn't work for me on your main thread but have found this by scrolling through Telly Addicts .

Should be good, Sean Bean's in it , and he's always in dramas well worth watching .

Blondeshavemorefun · 22/03/2025 18:40

It’s weird links aren’t always working

I won’t be watching
i find tv series about criminals / drug gangs - Virdee, Love/Hate, Peaky Blinders, Kin etc so depressing.

curiositykilledthiscat · 23/03/2025 10:05

I just watched the first episode and won't be bothering with the next seven. Just found it so unengaging and I was reminded why Kin, Virdee and the rest have always been unappealing. The gang talk and stories about sub-plots about gangs are just so boring.

PaperwhiteTheFriendlyGhost · 23/03/2025 10:11

Oh no. I hate anything to do with organised crime and gangsters. Immediate turn off (or not turn on)

Sean Bean is well known for singing The City Is Ours to Sheffield Wednesday fans!

Blondeshavemorefun · 23/03/2025 10:28

Where I like Kin gangs of London etx so hopefully will enjoy E1 tonight

I don't like them either, but I enjoyed Virdee after the first couple of eps as the family dynamics were interesting.
The rest - meh! I did watch Kin with DH but I wasn't enamoured. I just can't relate at all.

Blondeshavemorefun · 23/03/2025 17:07

E1 starts tonight 9pm

It’s always drugs isn’t it? .. :(
Mind you, the way the cost of living and house prices are going , only the ones doing the illegal activities will be able to afford anything soon , so no wonder it’d tempting for many to get involved in these type of things. (As bad as that sounds and I know this is only a fictional drama.)

Blondeshavemorefun · 23/03/2025 21:59

Yes always drugs. Where the money is

I didn’t love the first episode…

Blondeshavemorefun · 23/03/2025 22:06

I really enjoyed this.

I do love an Irish accent !!

So Ronnie wants to retire and Micheal to step up but his son Jamie wants the family business

Equally Micheal wants a family life and hope ivf works for them

Davy is a bad man and his wife Cheryl knows this warns Diana off the family

Equally Davy is the rat and for what was coming to him

Micheal is a hard nut with a saucepan and fists and happy to shot if need be

Jamie's cousin Rachel wants to be in the family business and wants her hubby Bobby to talk to Ronnie or she will

Was lovely to see Laura A again and not being a mean bitch like she was in gavin and Stacey 😂

Lovely villa and just as well that Cheryl didn't go to Spain as hubby is dead or maybe just passed out as sure he opened his eyes a flicker

Roll on next week

I watched it because of Sean Bean but didn't like it much also didn't understand everything. Why did they beat up that young bloke in his home?

theriseandfallofFranklinSaint · 23/03/2025 22:31

I really enjoyed it although will probably plough on rather than watch it weekly for the next 8weeks - sorry @Blondeshavemorefun!

Depressing as it is, I love gritty British dramas and more often than not, they are linked with drugs.

I'm surprised what you said about Laura A though, she seems like a mean pitch in this too! 😬

Blondeshavemorefun · 23/03/2025 22:31

Ah but she was too good for smithy 😂😂

BobLobla · 23/03/2025 22:57

Enjoyed this very much. Nice Michael Corleone and Kay vibes with Michael & Diana.

Didn’t understand all of the comments between Sean Bean’s character and Michael / Jamie / the guy with the curtains and baseball bat BUT I’m pretty sure the divvy son Jamie is behind the drugs going missing bc he’s jealous of Michael.

BobLobla · 23/03/2025 22:58

I don’t think Davey’s dead btw - they’re torturing him to get info out of him about who was behind the drug shipment going missing.
