This City Is Ours stars Sean Bean, Julie Graham and Jack McMullen and follows the big troubles of a Liverpool crime family.

the eight-part series follows Michael, a drug-trafficker who reconsiders his life after falling in love.

Sean Bean (Game of Thrones) plays Michael's boss, gang leader Ronnie Phelan, who begins eyeing retirement just as a rival organisation prepares to attack.

Michael (James Nelson-Joyce) dreams of following his boss and leaving his life of crime behind, but faces opposition from Ronnie's ruthless son Jamie (Jack McMullen), who doesn't want to share his father's criminal empire.

This City is Ours is the story of Michael, a man who for all of his adult life has been involved in organised crime... but for the first time in his life, Michael is in love. For the first time in his life, he sees beyond the day-to-day, he sees a future: something to win and something to lose — Diana. "The eight-part series tells the story of Michael and Diana's love affair, set against the disintegration of Michael’s crime gang.

For years, together with his friend Ronnie, Michael has successfully been bringing cocaine into the City and beyond, directly from Columbia; but when a shipment goes missing, then he knows their Kingdom is under attack.

"The drama explores what happens when Ronnie’s son Jamie decides he wants to inherit their kingdom and that there is no longer a place for Michael at the table.

Both Michael and Jamie have bold ideas to modernise the gang and they will battle for control of it.

But Michael’s biggest battle will be to save the woman he loves and the child he has always wanted.

"This is a story about family and love destroyed and corrupted by ambition, pride and greed. It’s a story about power: what we will do to secure and keep it."

James Nelson-Joyce (The Family Pile) will lead the cast as Michael Kavanagh, while Jack McMullen (Hijack) plays his friend and Ronnie's son, Jamie.

Why didn't they just cremate Ronnie in a dodgy Spanish bakery somewhere then take his ashes home? Less chance of getting caught. They can't have a burial here without a death certificate surely?

I’m guessing as wife wanted him home to die naturally in sleep

So Micheal is pretending it was someone else who killed Ronnie - possibly blaming the ones going j to business with

jamie wants to bump him off with his 2 heavy geezers on the boat who are not so keen

assuming Michel will be ok by next weeks episode as I don’t think Jamie has the balls to smother him

We now know why her mum is in prison but looks like she actually killed the dad hence why she understands why Micheal did what he did or has she forgotten what she did

Just catching up on this, currently on episode two. As a fellow ginger I’m proper wincing for Diana out in that Spanish sun 🤣. I’m surprised Michael trusts her with so much information about his life when they’ve not been together that long. Also amazed how much booze they knock back before doing major drug deals with foreign criminals 🤔

MrsLargeEmbodied · 08/04/2025 18:25

watching all that red wine being drunk made me feel sick!

CollaterlieSistersSister · 08/04/2025 18:31

I’m staying on TV pace, as I’m really liking it.

But James Nelson-Joyce has really got something, hasn’t he? Striking, handsome and a bloody good actor.

CrossPurposes · 08/04/2025 19:34

I did binge it but how I wish this type of series with twists and turns and cliffhangers wasn't just dumped on iPlayer. I think this modern trend is a disservice to quality TV dramas and the people who make them. The word of mouth on this would have been very good, I think.

Blondeshavemorefun · 08/04/2025 19:55

I wish they didn’t put on iplayer and ITVX etx

the anticipation of waiting a week /next episode is good

line of duty and happy valley did weekly and look how popular those were

yes shove it on once been on tv

you will have to show restraint @CrossPurposes 😜😜

@CollaterlieSistersSister he is rather cute and the accent

It’s ok. Bit formulaic for me. They have tried to make it a Scouse Sopranos. Lots of imagery borrowed from iconic gangster films. The ballad singer at the party, the christening, the outsider girlfriend- straight out of The Godfather. The person in the boot - Goodfellas. Mafia but make it scouse.

Watchable. The plot is a bit far fetched though.

Xcellentaligat · 09/04/2025 22:48

I’m really enjoying this, I’m hooked.

Lalgarh · 10/04/2025 01:33

Yet when the Sopranos did that, they managed to subvert the cliché and have it soundtracked by .. John Cooper Clarke with Evidently Chickentown

Xcellentaligat · 10/04/2025 20:02

I loved the Sopranos, a right load of nasty criminals who I really liked, especially Tony. ❤️

Blondeshavemorefun · 10/04/2025 20:54

I've never been able to watch IPlayer from abroad, it just tells me I'm not in the right country.
I remember watching the first few episodes of the Sopranos and giving up fairly easily as I found everybody quite awful.
Obviously the cliffhanger here is still keeping me hooked. And I still like the music like "The Good Life", written by Sacha Distel.

Blondeshavemorefun · 12/04/2025 17:55

I can only do it when not on WiFi. So uses data but need my ee fix when I’m away 😂😂

Been catching up with stuff this weekend so now up to speed with this one .

I like the iPlayer/itvx etc. @Blondeshavemorefun as that's what I often watch on, rather than at the time it's actually on .

I had the subtitles on and it said 'his breathing slows down' [Michael] like he was dead but he's not killed off that easily !

Blondeshavemorefun · 13/04/2025 17:15

Yes he can’t be dead so sure we will see him tonight

e4 tonight

OP posts:
theriseandfallofFranklinSaint · 13/04/2025 21:07

I can't believe it's only episode 4 tonight!

I binged them all in a couple of weeks (sorry @Blondeshavemorefun!) and am now jealous that you still have them to watch. I really enjoyed it, one of the best series in a long time, this and Virdee 👍

Blondeshavemorefun · 13/04/2025 21:18

Well if you have no restraint @theriseandfallofFranklinSaint 😜😜

yes it’s good

glad Micheal is ok. Knew he had to be tbh

OP posts:
Ilovetea33 · 14/04/2025 00:20

Well yes, I don't suppose they could kill off a second major player. And where would the rivalry be?
I must admit I'm still looking at the clock during the episode to see how much time is left. And I didn't particularly like any of the music tonight. But I'm intrigued enough to want to watch next week.

ComeAsYouAreAsAFriend · 14/04/2025 08:25

I thought last nights episode was good. They are building the suspense and it is so obvious that it will kick off soon. The young lad that took the drugs is a gonner, so obvious it was him that took them, coming out of the launderette with two big bin bags.
The way Jamie spoke to Ronnie's corpse, no love lost there I wonder will they ever show what the two spoke about at the Villa, is Jamie telling the truth that Ronnie was happy to go with the Albanians I wonder
