This City Is Ours stars Sean Bean, Julie Graham and Jack McMullen and follows the big troubles of a Liverpool crime family.

the eight-part series follows Michael, a drug-trafficker who reconsiders his life after falling in love.

Sean Bean (Game of Thrones) plays Michael's boss, gang leader Ronnie Phelan, who begins eyeing retirement just as a rival organisation prepares to attack.

Michael (James Nelson-Joyce) dreams of following his boss and leaving his life of crime behind, but faces opposition from Ronnie's ruthless son Jamie (Jack McMullen), who doesn't want to share his father's criminal empire.

This City is Ours is the story of Michael, a man who for all of his adult life has been involved in organised crime... but for the first time in his life, Michael is in love. For the first time in his life, he sees beyond the day-to-day, he sees a future: something to win and something to lose — Diana. "The eight-part series tells the story of Michael and Diana's love affair, set against the disintegration of Michael’s crime gang.

For years, together with his friend Ronnie, Michael has successfully been bringing cocaine into the City and beyond, directly from Columbia; but when a shipment goes missing, then he knows their Kingdom is under attack.

"The drama explores what happens when Ronnie’s son Jamie decides he wants to inherit their kingdom and that there is no longer a place for Michael at the table.

Both Michael and Jamie have bold ideas to modernise the gang and they will battle for control of it.

But Michael’s biggest battle will be to save the woman he loves and the child he has always wanted.

"This is a story about family and love destroyed and corrupted by ambition, pride and greed. It’s a story about power: what we will do to secure and keep it."

James Nelson-Joyce (The Family Pile) will lead the cast as Michael Kavanagh, while Jack McMullen (Hijack) plays his friend and Ronnie's son, Jamie.

I did wonder if one of the women was from ‘ Gavin and Stacey ‘.
I wonder if they will realize the man isn’t ‘ round the pool ‘ anymore !
The lady playing Michael’s partner is gorgeous. She looks a bit like Fleabag.

JesseGator · 24/03/2025 07:27

I really enjoyed this, reminded me of both Kin and Goodfellas. Also thanks for clearing up the identity of the actress who was in Gavin and Stacey, that was bugging me something awful 🤣

Can someone please answer this question- when they showed the scene with the lorry going through customs was that in Spain or England? I thought it was Liverpool docks but I just read an article which suggests that Ronnie and Michael believe the lorry was stopped in Spain?

the80sweregreat · 24/03/2025 12:16

I thought the lorry was going through Liverpool docks , but not totally sure.

LemograssLollipop · 24/03/2025 12:42

Ummm, I hope I haven't just put my massive feet in 😟😟😟
I thought it was ep1

I'm really really sorry if I've not realised it's moved on, was watching on iPlayer so could have rolled on and I haven't realised.

@Blondeshavemorefun shall I ask for my post to be deleted?

So sorry everyone

PeggyMitchellsCameo · 24/03/2025 12:58

Watched a few episodes.
Just to note, the way the girls and women are dressed looks nothing like how these women would dress in Liverpool.
The fact that most of the actresses are not from Liverpool and the wardrobe differences makes them less authentic. Not a logo in sight, which would not be the case.
However, the actress playing Diana is superb, as is the actor playing Michael.

I do love an Irish accent !!

I will confess to watching with half an eye and ear blondes but who had an Irish accent???

supersun23 · 24/03/2025 16:43

I might be wrong but I wonder is Michael's girlfriend (Diana?) is involved in the other dealings. Her mum is in prison - do we know why? She is obviously getting special treatment i.e. face timing in a private room? Could she be involved in some way and playing Michael?

I’m suspicious of Diana ( think that’s her name, Michael’s girlfriend) already and her mum is also inside and doesn’t sound as posh as she does from the bit i heard.

the80sweregreat · 24/03/2025 17:01

Not sure, but maybe they are not allowed to show bags / clothes with logos on them that are real or something, might be because it’s seen as advertising for the brand?
I admit I don’t really look out for people wearing branded goods on tv dramas. They don’t use ‘ Google ‘ or anything well known like that on Eastenders ( for example) , it’s their own version of a website if they are looking up things online which is clearly fake , so might be the same with any logos ?
Be interesting to know what the rules are ( if any )

If you think Sean Bean's legendary Yorkshire (Tea!) accent is Irish, I can no longer assist... 😉
But nice to know you love those accents, too!

the80sweregreat · 24/03/2025 17:04

I like Sean Bean’s Sheffield accent. I also like hearing different accents on tv especially Scottish.
