What an amazing piece of television. Stephen Graham is exceptional. Highly recommend this - on Netflix.

Oh I cant wait to see this as the weekend! Have you seen it all OP?

heartsinvisiblefury · 14/03/2025 10:53

Just finished it - the last episode is heart wrenching

I agree. Not an easy watch but very well done

Lottapianos · 14/03/2025 10:56

I binged it all yesterday, which I don't recommend actually because it's so intense and there's so much to take in. Episodes 1 and 2 are just astonishing. Edge of your seat stuff, even in the more low key moments. I'm fascinated by the technical challenge of the single take

Brilliant acting all round. Owen Cooper is getting all the attention as the young lad at the centre of it all, and he's just great. There's two other youngsters though who appear in episode 2, and they're just as brilliant if you ask me

Jasmin71 · 14/03/2025 11:02

Do you need a strong stomach for this one?

I want to watch, but incels give me the massive ick!

heartsinvisiblefury · 14/03/2025 11:06

No, it’s beautifully done (as weird as that sounds)

Been looking forward to this. Watching it tomorrow night. I adore Stephen Graham.

Lottapianos · 14/03/2025 11:06

'Do you need a strong stomach for this one?'

It's pretty gruelling emotionally, all the way through. There are quite a few incel references but none of it is in a positive light. I found it really eye opening and pretty frightening

The police raid is so brilliantly done - you really feel like you're in there with them, and feel how overwhelming and traumatic it must be

sandgreen · 14/03/2025 11:46

I watched the first one last night - enjoyed the technical aspects of the one-shot take, but did get distracted a few times thinking it surely wouldn’t play out like that in real life. But it is a drama I suppose and the final moments are a real tearjerker. DS is not 13 yet but certainly has the same build, hair, mannerisms of the boy so it was a tough watch personally.

JimStirlingsPenisTransplant · 14/03/2025 12:58

Really put off by the over acting of Stephen Graham.

Dont shoot me.

ColdHenrietta · 14/03/2025 13:17

Amazing series. And each episode offered something new.

paulhollywoodshairgel · 14/03/2025 13:51

The main kid is hauntingly good.

Gundogday · 14/03/2025 13:57

Dh mentioned this last night and said it was superb.

heartsinvisiblefury · 14/03/2025 14:01

The last scene with the teddy bear 😭

Is this suitable for a 17 year old teen? I want to nick her Netflix cheapo sub to watch this.

TodayGoodDay · 14/03/2025 14:19

I’ve just finishing binging it.
it’s ok.
to be honest I got bored with all the long, drawn out sequences! Interesting storyline though.

it’s very cleverly done and the acting by the children is good.
I found Stephen Graham a bit predictable.

Erin Doherty plays a psychologist in Episode 3 , I thought she was excellent.

It's rated 15 on Netflix so I can't see any issue with a 17 yr old watching it.

Mydoghealsmyheart · 14/03/2025 16:01

It was sublime in so many ways. My dd and I binged it all last night, as soon as one episode ended she was ready with the next one lined up. The ending was so emotional 😢

verysmellyjelly · 14/03/2025 16:12

Erin Doherty was actually my favourite performance in the entire thing.

Lottapianos · 14/03/2025 16:22

'Really put off by the over acting of Stephen Graham'

I thought the final scene was pretty self indulgent and unnecessary. It could have ended with the final line of dialogue between mum and dad

He does rage very well though

You're safe with me!

I also think Stephen Graham is highly overrated and always seems to play a version of the same role. I've only seen the first episode of this and to be fair, he's fine so far, but as someone above said, he's very predictable. You pretty much know what the character is going to be like once you see that Stephen Graham has been cast.

CorvusPurpureus · 14/03/2025 22:06

I lost interest after the bonkers-ness of Episode 2.

As a secondary school if you've had one y8 fatally stab another - a fairly newsworthy event - your response is unlikely to be putting some random hand wringer 'from junior school' <WHAT JUNIOR SCHOOL> in charge of ineffectually escorting the investigating police around classrooms as a minor interruption to the lesson.

The perpetrator's best mate then gets chased out of a window, cornered & shouted & sworn at until he makes a damaging admission - this is after we've witnessed the very careful procedural of episode 1.

I'm a teacher. We lost a student in tragic circumstances not long back. We didn't just do 'business as usual, until the investigator's y10 son is free to skip class & talk him through emojis'.

Having said that, the actor playing Jamie was exceptional. Really impressive performance.

multicolouredbunting · 14/03/2025 22:18

I was looking forward to watching this and I was actually pretty bored by episode 2. Finished it and thought, was that it?
I thought the school scenes were over the top and the acting was awful. It's had really good reviews and I wonder if I watched the same thing everyone else has

sandgreen · 14/03/2025 22:31

Agree episode 2 was unsatisfying despite being an incredible feat of production. The script was awful, drawn out to the point of tedium presumably to allow the cameras to get around. I couldn’t like or relate to any of the characters. Kudos to the cast and crew for pulling it off but I do hope the following episodes are stronger.

I also thought episode 2 was boring. The Jade actress looked distractingly old to be playing a 13 year old. I know it's often the case that actors playing teens are much older than they're supposed to be, 'Derry Girls' being a prime example. But when we had an actual 14 year old playing Jamie it just emphasised how young kids that age really look, and Jade looked out of place.

I also agree with @CorvusPurpureus that everyone was far too casual considering the gravity of the incident.
