What an amazing piece of television. Stephen Graham is exceptional. Highly recommend this - on Netflix.

I agree with this. He had 'Nonce' sprayed on his van in big letters but took his wife and daughter out for a jolly to B&Q in it? Who does that? I thought that could have been done better without the spray painting, and seemed to be a vehicle to shoehorn an incel into the story.

presumably that was their only vehicle!

dont forget, it was a drama

Everyone else seems to have forgotten it was only a drama, including the pm who referred to it as a documentary several times as opposed to a figment of Stephen Graham's imagination.

Endthisshit · 04/04/2025 18:34

This is smoke and mirrors, like there hasn’t always been a massive problem with male violence before the internet, whether men, teens, or young boys, like the boys who killed Bolger, some males are just innately evil. Parents Telling young boys how special they are and failing to monitor their access to damaging information/porn etc., will not have any impact on the growing increase of violence to women by men, this is exacerbated by multiculturalism, where the UK, especially England is importing thousands upon thousands of men from cultures where women are worthless, Iran now allows marriage at age 9.

We need more than a clever woke Drama to tackle Male Violence against Women.

Yes I know it's a drama, that's why I said I thought the scene could have been done without the spray painting. They could have made the same points without having him drive his wife and daughter around in a van with nonse sprayed on it! It just seemed a weird unnecessary thing to put in, when the juxtaposition between them having an ordinary fun time and joking in the car and later without it.

crisantemi · 05/04/2025 10:26

Just finished watching and have to say I didn't rate it all that much. It was all a bit obvious and sentimental, and a lot of the dialogue was clunky. The last episode was the weakest, so slow and boring, and I found the family pretty annoying, all that snivelling was just unbearable. Such stereotypes of WC people.

The strongest part was the interaction between the psychiatrist and the boy, and I thought the creepy shop assistant in the DIY store was good - something a bit unexpected.

Is anyone else a bit confused about the enthusiasm to show this in schools? I am not sure if would really help. Show to parents and to policy makers who have influence on social media usage in children.

I suspect it wouldnt really hit the mark with teenagers. They just need their mobile phone usage monitored and restricted and good male role models in their life

Just finished watching this last night. I'm also a bit confused as to why they would show it in schools. I thought it was excellent watching as a parent but I feel that teenagers would find it boring and not get the point at all. Schools would be better off improving their training and safeguarding with regards to incels.

I felt that the general message was a kick up the arse to all parents to monitor what your kids are doing online.

Oh I've heard of it, vaguely. Nothing is being pushed like this craze for Adolescence though

13yr old alleged 'incels' are not the biggest threat to this country's security. It is absolutely batshit how some people in the media are falling over themselves to promote it.

Incels are actually becoming the biggest threat with regards to Prevent. I had a safeguarding meeting with my local authority last week as part of my job and the most referrals under Prevent in the last quarter in my area was nothing to do with terrorism or far right groups but incels and misogyny.

Eddie forced them on the jolly because he was scared of leaving them at home alone in case of more attacks on the family.

Oh yeah I suppose that makes more sense !

'the most referrals under Prevent in the last quarter in my area was nothing to do with terrorism or far right groups but incels and misogyny'

We only have to look at the grooming gangs scandal, a shocking situation that went unchallenged for years to see that people are so scared of being labelled racist that they look the other way. So much easier to target 13yr old white 'incels'. Absolutely ridiculous.

Let's see 3 girls being shown in schools.

Lottapianos · 05/04/2025 11:12

'Let's see 3 girls being shown in schools'

I agree with your point. I don't remember anything like the same level of outcry or anyone clamouring for that to be shown in schools when it was screened on the BBC

In this case it was a 13 year old incel but in real life lots are older teens and adults.

Agree with you completely that 3 girls should be shown in school. That was absolutely harrowing and as many people as possible should know what happened rather than ignore it.

In Kent by far and away the majority of regerals for radicalisation are for the far right ( think Tommy Robinson, Britain first etc) not Islamic extremism.

Yes, as I said easier to target some people them others. We all know that the extremist who have been radicalised by isis/western haters etc are far more likely to carry out atrocities than any 'far right' followers.

Really what is your evidence for this ?

Found this it would apear nationally you are right but far right is number 2

WaffleParty · 05/04/2025 21:18

I thought nearly all of it was excellent. Well acted and brilliantly shot. The school episode was the bit that failed for me. No idea what the breathless primary school teacher added and the portrayal of the teachers as skivers who just stuck on videos and teenagers who were too insensitive to behave appropriately made the whole thing less believable. I’ve worked in a lot of secondary schools and none of this rang true (apart from the one spare room where the policeman could talk to his son being full of random furniture 🤣)

NorthernGirl1981 · 05/04/2025 23:45

I haven’t read the whole thread, but I can’t be the only one who found it utterly boring?

I was so looking forward to this and every episode was a let down. I’m so disappointed.

AzurePanda · 03/04/2025 09:09

@Gloriia yes it’s a pity that the same attention isn’t being devoted to finding out exactly what compelled Axel Rudukubana to meticulously plot and kill little girls attending a Taylor Swift dance event rather than different victims in a different setting.

There is talk of him being an incel though?

PrincessScarlett · 07/04/2025 07:20

Yes I had heard that Axel Rudukubana is being referred to as an incel.

AzurePanda · 07/04/2025 11:09

And which have you heard more about - incel culture/ the manosphere and how it relates to Adolescence or how it relates to Rudukubana?

If anyone is interested, a recent episode of the podcast Modern Wisdom has a fascinating interview with an evolutionary biologist who specialises in incel culture. He explodes a lot of the myths, namely that there is any statistical increase in violence between young men and young women linked to the “manosphere”, that the majority of incels are not white and over 40% are on the spectrum.

I just listened to this modern wisdom podcast and it’s pretty good. I heard via the podcast that they are only going to show to the top two years in school. The show is actually a 15 so they can’t really show to younger. But I tend to wonder surely the top two years aren’t really going to benefit that much? A lot of damage and impressionable years are at 13/14. So not sure what it will gain showing it to school at all. It’s the younger years that need some help (and by that I don’t mean help by showing the Netflix show)

Bartg · 07/04/2025 14:38

I guess I just feel annoyed that the government are going to show a Netflix show to everyone at school and then tell us they have done something to help. And we as parents will be precisely back to square one with dealing with all this

AzurePanda · 07/04/2025 15:26

100% @Bartg. I guess that’s my fundamental problem with it. The government can pay themselves on the back for promoting a work of fiction which will do absolutely nothing to help the actual problems facing both sexes
in schools.

Bartg · 07/04/2025 15:57

Yes in the modern wisdom podcast is points out the irony that one of the teachers in the story is supposedly useless and can do nothing more than show the occasional video in class
