Hmm…Still don’t really get it. Harold shipman from what I recall was a doctor ‘by day” who also killed “by day” in the course of his duties.
Seemed OTT to bring his name into it.

I agree! I said the same to DH when we watched it. Harold Shipman didn’t run around the streets at night, stabbing people with a big knife like someone in a slasher film.

I just don’t know why he was acting as if they were accusing him of being an actual murderer. It was bizarre. It’s a TV show that involves fake “murders”.

There aren’t that many famous killer doctors, so Harold Shipman comes to most people’s minds when you think of a killer doctor.

The only other one I can think of is Dr Crippen but I doubt many would think of him as he killed people’s over 100 years ago 🤣

I wouldn’t have thought of any killer doctor due to someone saying “you are a doctor in the day then you go out and (gameshow)murder at night.”

Thats the point some of us are laughing/bewildered about. His cards were already marked unfortunately but I don’t think that done him any favours at all.

Exactly!!! I think maybe you’ve explained this better than I did. It made me lose a little bit of sympathy for him.

He called Kasim a doctor by doctor, a killer by night. They didn’t say you are a ‘game show murderer at night’.

Very bizarre that you think Kasim shouldn’t have defended himself.

xsquared · 09/01/2025 15:57

I'm not sure why people are being so fixated and outraged about Kaz's reference to Harold Shipman. Jake had implied that his being a doctor "made sense" to Kaz being a traitor, care by day, kill by night or words to that effect. Basically calling Kaz a Doctor Death.

Kaz admitted he reacted badly, and it was something he said under pressure. Most people would not have reacted calmly if it was suggested that their profession was hiding a nefarious side to them.

No as @RedLightsStopSigns said it doesn’t make sense. They’re explaining it perfectly so I won’t type it out again .

Defend yourself within the parameters if the game sure. But don’t imply people are likening you to Harold Shipman. Definitely over the top and melodramatic.

Minah and Linda are murdering someone every night without a big knife so your argument makes little sense. The Harold Shipman murders were not slasher murders, he was injecting his victims.

They haven’t explained it properly at all.

It’a nit picking semantics over a contestant that said he was isolated and not spoken to. Are you Joe?

I think it was completely bonkers and maybe he had a bit of victim mentality to say that and clearly many many others did too - both his contestants who were obviously there in person and viewers alike.

And as for asking if I’m Joe 🤡(I can’t remember who he is tbh but I suppose someone who had it in for him) @Choccyscofffy

Did you also note upthread I have clearly sad it’s wrong if he was ostracised and I questioned why people did this?

To be clear, i will maintain I did think that comment on Shipman was OTT but I wouldn’t have ostracised him nor did I agree with anyone doing that.

They’re not murdering anyone, they’re participating in a game show.

I thought the Shipman comparison was ridiculous, not least because of the “killing by night” comment, when Shipman didn’t kill at night, which is what I said upthread.

Well were talking about Kaz's reaction to being accused of being a killer by night, which Jake started and Joe used as a reason for voting for him.

You think it's theatrical or melodramatic, which were the words Joe used at the round table.

You say he had a victim mentality but that's is understandable as he was being ganged up upon and barely being allowed to get a word in.

Nobody is disagreeing with you that it was an OTT reaction, I just don't blame him for being so.

I didn’t ask you if you’re Joe because you’d have ostracised him, I asked that because you seemed to have a similar reaction to Joe, who who was so excited at the thought of Kas being a traitor and who instead of expressing regret for ostracising Kas even though he was a faithful, he instead said he doesn’t feel bad because Kas drew out the reveal.

Because you took ‘killer by night’ to mean slasher murders.

I pointed out that Harold Shipman wasn’t a slasher murderer.

They’re not murdering anyone, they’re participating in a game show.

That’s the show terminology, not mine.

It sounds like we’re in agreement re Kas being isolated. Happy to leave it there!

I hope Joe gets banished tonight.

I think we may going around in circle but all I’ll say is that after watching the Australian traitors were many were repeatedly and unfairly accused and handled it SO much better it did stand out to me.

Especially as he is a 33 year old doctor, so young but not sooo young and he is in a profession where he should be used to be keeping a bit more calm under pressure, so maybe I expected more from him.

As I’ve said previously he wasn’t the only one over-reacting in my opinion, but I did call out that comment as it was the one that stood out as most bizarre to me.

I think judging by the last couple of episodes not everyone there is cut out for the game. And to be fair I certainly wouldn’t be! 😆

I actually think it was the round table that reacted ott when Kas made that almost throwaway comment about being compared to Dr Shipman. They were all outraged and said how disgusting he brought that up and that he was taking Jake's comment too far.

Well if you’d read my initial comment I called Joe (I think Joe- I’m awful with names) out for criticising him for “toying” with them.

I can’t believe the nerve of that guy to criticise Kas for “toying” with them at the end before he revealed he was a faithful lol

I felt he should have either showed a bit of humility or regret for being wrong or just kept silent.

I wish they'd chosen to murder last night instead of seduce. I'd have been keen for them to get rid of Joe or Tyler. Perhaps the sisterhood could now remove all the male contestants one by one ...

Newgirls · 09/01/2025 16:44

I reckon the producers edit out the parts where the contestants mention the producers. So there will have been a lot of chat we don’t see about producers choosing a sweet clever doctor or an older woman or a sister to be a traitor. I liked kas but he was an obvious choice for Claudia. So the contestants went for him.

scissy · 09/01/2025 17:16

I agree that one of the "young white wannabe alphas" needs to go (then maybe I'll be able to remember which is left 😂)
As to Kas, for his sake I am glad he has left. You could see some of the ostracising in previous episodes, one of the girls calls out to him in a loud voice for everyone to hear "hope you don't murder me tonight Kas" after he had just survived a previous banishment. So I think we just didn't see a lot of it in the edit.
And as for people seeing things differently, when Jake/Joe made their doctor by day/killer by night reference I was like "I can't believe they just compared him to Harold Shipman" so wasn't at all surprised by Kas' response, but I guess that just shows I shouldn't be on the traitors as if be voted out/murdered too early for not being like the "herd".

GrammarTeacher · 09/01/2025 17:45

Watchingthis · 09/01/2025 15:11

Yeah it was strange to hear Kas had been ostracised, I didn’t hear many people deny it when he said it so unless it was edited out it may well be the case. He definitely looked uncomfortable walking around.

As Fozia said , people need to remember this is just a game. Even if he is the traitor why ostracise him?

I think he didn’t react great at the last roundtable though by essentially hinting that people were likening him to a Harold shipman type person? I didn’t get that.

I think what people were meaning by it’s perfect that a doctor would be a traitor, is the idea that doctors are trustworthy and are associated with keeping people alive ie. Nice people . So subconsciously you might not suspect them and therefore that’s why he was chosen to be a traitor.

I can’t believe the nerve of that guy to criticise Kas for “toying” with them at the end before he revealed he was a faithful lol

Edited

a faithful literally said doctors kill people at night. Hence the Shipman reference.

APushbikeNamedReluctance · 09/01/2025 17:48

Someone needs to explain to me the massive deal that's been made about Kasim saying the words "Harold shipman"? I'm pretty certain there were plenty of people who had uttered that name sitting on their couches, when Jake was blathering on about how brilliant it could be if Kasim was a doctor would killed at night.

People are acting like Kasim went bonkers. You've had people weeping and wailing at the round table, over the series, when others have discussed the possibility of them being a traitor. Yet when Kasim reacts to being told he's an ideal traitor because he's could be a killer doctor, just by naming a killer doctor - after pointing out that his job would have nothing to do with it.

In all honesty I doubt the Hatold Shipman comment even registered with a Jake. I can't help feeling he's not got the wherewithal to know who Shipman is.

CaveMum · 09/01/2025 17:50

I’m not sure why people (general “people” not specifically referring to anyone in here) are getting worked up about references to Harold Shipman - haven’t they ever watched Gavin and Stacey?!
