That, it being relatively weak, might be why they chose it because they feel they can really improve on it? I respect them for not going for an obvious crowd pleaser but I'm also glad that both Chris and especially JB are going for previous dances that I really loved.

Good point, could well be. I just didn't enjoy it, it was all too frantic for me. The judges will be looking for improvements they can comment on, so you're probably correct they want to show they can do it better.

FagsMagsandBags · 11/12/2024 01:19

I wasn't overly keen on it either. I'm hoping that their show dance wows me because I've really wanted to love their dancing and despite some that came really close it just hasn't happened for me. That said their American smooth was really close and if Vito gets his cartwheel just right that could do it for me too.

It's been Chris and Dianne and JB and Lauren who've delighted me most this year. Montell and Jojo too, especially their cc.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 11/12/2024 07:01

Just need to hop on and mark my place!

As you were 😁

Is she at every rehearsal though? Maybe just the ones they broadcast for the VTs? I don't know.

I thought JB met Chloe when she was a backing dancer at X Factor for something? Anyway, I think she is probably more of a dancer than he is/was at the time.

Perhaps she's envious that he's getting to do the dancing, and not the partnership

Well, I thinknit probably does have something to do with the fact that she's the dancer in the family rather than JB. 😄

I don't get any jealous wife vibes from her, just that she probably misses the dancing herself.

ellebelli · 11/12/2024 10:41

I actually wish it was Shane and Pete in the final rather than tasha and sarah.
JB has improved(since Lauren took over let's be honest) but he won't win, it's been obvious that chris will almost since the beginning.
I'm OK with that because this year I didn't and still don't have a favourite.
Well actually that was Pete, not for his dancing just for his personality and his partnering with jowita(who is one of my fave pros)
In the past I've liked people for both those reasons but also their dances I've really enjoyed

Which of Shane's dances would you have wanted to see in the final? To me, he was a decent dancer but I am struggling to remember any standout dances he did, that would have been final worthy.

I am glad that there are two women in the final, as an all male final would be dull.

ellebelli · 11/12/2024 11:13

I know what your saying and I do agree but I also think he went out to early and maybe could have had some better dances.
I don't think any of sarahs or tashas dances are that stand out(for me) either and I am not bothered about the ones they are reprising for the final.(even if you and the judges went crazy for her waltz...I liked it but that was it)
Pete didn't really have any stand out dances but I enjoyed it when he danced and would have looked forward to seeing him again.
Chris and Pete in the final would have pleased me.

xsquared · 11/12/2024 11:37

The thing I find about Shane is that someone earlier said he had a sad aura about him, and I agree.

Just my opinion but he seem to definitely lack confidence, and his quiet personality just made him fade I to the background for me.

If he had a standout dance, making him shine, then that would get him more noticed. JB also appeared quiet, and someone earlier described him as insipid amd when he was with Amy, it looked like he was in danger of leaving when he was in the first dance off. However, he dancing amd confidence has improved, and people are starting to take notice of him.

I think of Shane had just one standout dance, then it may have made a difference to honchos journey went. However, with 3 dance offs so early on, it was unlikely that he'd make it to the final.

Nahh she’s all over their social media stuff too. Definitely issues whatever they may be.

Tasha is stronger in the ballroom, so I am looking forward to her Sing Sing Sing show dance, which I think will be very big band and quick steppy.

I am a little disappointed that judges chose her CC to repeat in the final though.

JB and Lauren's VW is a little bit too recent in my opinion as a dance to improve on. It would have been more interesting for him to redo an Amy dance, but maybe they didn't think it was fair on Lauren to learn a new dance? I feel bad for Amy, because it's like she's been forgotten in the partnership. For that reason, I think it would be awkward for her if he won with Lauren.

But it's about the sleb and their 'journey' isn't it? Oh and the dance stuff too

I'm not saying Shane was forgettable but I read this and spent a good couple of minutes trying to work out who from Wynne, Sam, Punam and Montell had autocorrected to Shane 🤭

Romeiswheretheheartis · 11/12/2024 20:03

Just watched Chris on ITT and felt emotional already hearing him reflecting on the whole experience. I can't wait to see him do his waltz and CC again.

FagsMagsandBags · 11/12/2024 20:56

I have to admit it took me a while to figure out who Shane was and I had that problem with him while he was in the show. I'd forget that he was there and because he looked different nearly every week I wouldn't recognise him and wonder who he was. I'm sure he's a nice sort and he danced better than Pete, not hard, but for me he was forgettable which isn't very nice but is also true.

MarkWithaC · 12/12/2024 08:46

ThisAquaCrow · 08/12/2024 20:15

Oh behave. He has a distinct advantage but it’s not important apparently 😂

Tasha has more of an advantage, being a trained actual dancer. JB will have had a bit of training but not to her level or in such depth.

Lampzade · 12/12/2024 10:38

Sunblessed · 10/12/2024 19:38

Noooooooooo!

He literally is strictly for me. He’s the backbone and integrity of the show. All the silliness etc is fine, but you need someone to actually do their job. The other 3 judges just use the time to draw attention to themselves, he actually does his job. Starting to sound like Roy Keane here!

If he goes, the show is over I feel.

I honestly wouldn’t watch if Craig left?

ChessieFL · 12/12/2024 11:11

I would probably still watch but it really wouldn’t be the same if Craig left. He’s the only judge whose comments I really pay attention to.

FagsMagsandBags · 08/12/2024 20:25

My take on ringers is that there are ringers and then there are Ringers with a capital Rrrrr. Last year was the first time where it felt that they were taking the absolute piss by having Layton as a contestant and it'll take a lot to out ringer him. Tasha is close to Layton but he was the ringiest ringer of all time.

Then there are people who've had some dance training or a lot of dance training but they're older and they last worked as a dancer years ago, so Sarah and Debbie McGee.

Looking up Danny Mac I see that he got some training at RADA and has a degree in acting as well. I'm surprised. Anyway, he was ringing but I don't see any dance training in his past but he had worked in two musicals, Les Mis and Wicked. He was my dream ringer, not so ringy that it was cross making, ringy enough that he was an absolute joy to watch.

I'm hoping that next year they hold back on obvious ringers. It's not fair on the ringer because at some point they'll feel as though they're deeply unpopular when all that's wrong is the public don't like obvious ringers. They won't win but they will almost certainly be in the final and that can leave some real "What ifs". This year for example I'd have loved to have seen Montell in the final but whether she went last week or this week it wasn't going to happen, partly because there's a ringer in the house. People who wanted Pete in the final could say similar but I'd argue - although not vociferously - that Montell was a true beginner who really learned how to dance well. But water under the bridge. Etc

There are arguments in favour of ringers. Some say that without them it could be a bit clod hoppery, but that doesn't really sit with me because you can have a technically excellent dancer who does nothing for you and throughout most of the show for a lot of people that's been Tasha. She's pretty, has lovely movement, a beautiful body and I think she's probably a really nice person but she's also bland and so is her dancing. To be fair I don't think she's been helped by Aljaz who has been quite poor this season and I really wish he'd stayed away and not sullied my love for him as a sweet chap and a lovely dancer.

In short, I type far too many words to say very little indeed. Discuss. Please don't discuss!

Completely agree about Montell; she is one of the great what-ifs.
They're not on the same level of talent/potential as her, but I also feel that if there were fewer ringers Sam and Punam would have got further and improved a lot.

MarkWithaC · 12/12/2024 11:27

Thmssngvwlsrnd · 08/12/2024 20:33

JB would have had to learn lots of choreography when he was in a boyband. Obviously not Latin or ballroom, but having performed dances on stage, and being a performer in that way, must be a huge advantage. Someone like Chris sits or stands on a stage and talks for a living - hardly the same is it? Chris for the win - he's funny, kind, seems like a lovely bloke and what he's achieved is amazing.

To a point, though, people from other worlds have an advantage that's different in type but similar in level. A sports person will likely have fitness and stamina, be used to taking direction/instruction, and have a will to win. An actor will be better than a total novice at grasping instruction on the character of the dance and the story of the routine, and able to project that and connect with the audience.

CousinBob · 12/12/2024 11:34

I agree. I’d be far more interested in watching the progression of some of those who left earlier. But the chance of this was taken away by those who already came in at a very high level.

MarkWithaC · 12/12/2024 11:55

EvilRingahBitch · 10/12/2024 23:08

I'm pleased to hear she's doing Cabaret. Sarah ought by rights to excel at Fosse-style but the choreography for her couple's choice totally overshadowed her behind the backing dancers and Vito, and I don't think that One Dance To The Tune Of Another worked either.

Good to see her getting a second chance.

I didn't think she captured the spirit of Fosse at all in the last one (Vito did though). TBF it's really hard and a very distinctive style and character. I fear this will be a damp squib.
Judges' Choice does seem to be 'dances we loved and we want an encore' rather than the more teacher-y 'dances you could improve on'. I have mixed feelings about that; I am looking forward to seeing Let’s Go Fly A Kite again, but Tasha & Aljaz's Couple’s Choice was tedious first time round.

JB & Lauren's samba will be fun to see again. I love Chris, but felt meh about the waltz; IMO it's very cynically engineered to tug at the heartstrings.
I thought Sarah & Vito's cha cha was only all right. Then again I don't think I've outright loved any of their dances.
Tasha & Aljaz's American Smooth to that drippy song is a waste of a great dance style and her talent; I would love to see them do a real show-stopping old-fashioned glamour AS, like Ellie and Vito's gorgeous one last year.

ellebelli · 12/12/2024 13:53

After reading that list of dances, apart from the show dances which I'm looking forward to(I think they will all be good) it seems a bit of a boring final.

TennisWithDeborah · 12/12/2024 14:20

Tbh I often find the final a bit boring. I like the jeopardy of the D/O and the progression. And they all tend to be very good, broadly on a par, all worthy champions.

Also, after the winner has been announced by Tess, I feel a bit sad and flat that it’s all over for another year (well, nine months). This is partly due to the fact that I like the build-up to Christmas more than Christmas itself.

I know what you mean. I've always thought they should do a post-final ITT, or something, just to follow up in some way. It ends so abruptly.

I agree. Interview the finalists and the wimners and do a sort of finale.
