Anyone watching? So far I'm really liking the lead actress.

But they keep talking about a Northern Irish weapon-maker bloke being British. I thought Northern Ireland was part of the UK, but not part of Great Britain? Isn't that why our passports say great Britain AND Northern Ireland? Annoying.

On the upside, I loved it so much when the lead lady said "pre planning? Isn't all planning pre ?!"

OMG I hate all this "pre" business, "pre" ordering etc. It's already in advance! (Probably a thread for the pedants section)

I love the lead actress though.

I am beginning to question my morales as I also wanted River guy dead even though he was wanting to do something good!

Roll on Thursday!

One thing that's confused me is that Bianca has never seen a picture of Alexander Duggan. But why not? If he was in the army then surely his picture, date of birth, medical records etc would all be available at the touch of a button. So if all this information has disappeared or is being blocked then surely the only conclusion she can draw is that MI6 are protecting him?

Yes I said this to my DH when we watched it tonight. They have the photo fit. They have the name. You’re telling me there’s no photos of Duggen anywhere that MI6 can’t get hold of to check??

Also agree with the poster who said - why try and get round all the elaborate security at the event venue, hiding for days. When you can take him out whilst he’s swimming.

They did take a very long time to start their chase of the boat after he shot the jet ski man??

Plot holes aside I am very much enjoying it!

Foxlover46 · 07/12/2024 23:12

I didn't want him to kill UDC purely for the carnage as a result , I mean he was trying to do a good thing so I suppose he wasn't a baddie was he just a lot sanctimonious and unlikeable . Yet the jackal seemed happy to get the kill shot on him.
Like you've said in here , if he truly aims to do this job then quit , for a series 2 he's got to have a reason to carry on killing .. I'm bad but I'm hoping wifey gets killed off ... don't like her or her brother or the mother in law.
But also don't like Bianca ... I do like the jackal even though his voice if I close my eyes reminds me of Gillian Anderson's in the Fall

Merrilydancing · 07/12/2024 23:33

There was a photo of the army troop on the table of the guy with cancer. It was the same one that was in the file except the faces were not pixelated.

They guy in hospital appeared to have some sort of burns scarring on his face. Are they implying he was the survivor of the explosion in Afghanistan?

Ellerby83 · 07/12/2024 13:51

I think he was in Downton as a weasley character.

Thank you! I could not remember where I had seen him before, but of course he was the cards sharp at DA

AmberAlert86 · 08/12/2024 07:57

Absolutely love the series! The soundtrack is amazing, ER is great as Jackal. Our family roots for Duggan. I think it's because there appears to be more complexities to him than meets the eye, and he is really good at his job. Also up to now, the people he kills have been either nasty or at very least annoying. Coming to that, I think MIL and BIL days are numbered. They are sooo annoying.
Bianca - she is working on the correct side of the law but she is similar to Jackal, because she is ruthless. Not as good at her job however. And did Bianca's husband actually bugger off to live with his ex wife after the incident with Norman's brother at their house? Like, WTF? And they are still there now? What, there's nowhere else to live in London??

AmberAlert86 · 08/12/2024 08:03

I liked Norman's character, he seemed very likeable. Maybe because he was good at his job? 😄
I thought Norman telling Jackal about having to stay single in their line of job made Jackal think. Is he going to make himself disappear again? Nuria and son will be well provided, and he will watch them from afar? Or is the last episode going to end with villa being ravaged by inferno, appearing that the whole family is wiped out (whilst Duggan, Nuria and Charlie are actually travelling to make new life somewhere).
I think Nuria has made a choice ggat she is standing by him, not her super annoying grabby family.

drivinmecrazy · 08/12/2024 09:04

Not convinced river guy is dead.
This was the Jackals first shot that wasn't a head shot, so I think he'll be rescued just in time

BustingBaoBun · 08/12/2024 09:23

Yes, I am wondering that too. He was floating in the water but we don't know for sure that he can't be alive

Ellerby83 · 08/12/2024 11:17

Surely even if UDC is dead why would that result in the River information not being revealed. Surely other people have access to the River website/platform. It can't have only been known to UDC.if he didn't want to be assassinated he should gave said the announcement will go ahead as planned even if I am killed.

BustingBaoBun · 08/12/2024 11:33

River wanted his partner to carry on without him if he is killed. And the guy said he couldn't because everyone was more afraid of him (River) and wouldn't be in awe of himself (his partner)

Wordau · 08/12/2024 15:05

Yeah pretty weak reasoning not to carry on with River isn't it. Doesn't make a lot of sense. Bit like iPhones didn't stop with Steve Jobs.

I think the partner is guilty AF though so wouldn't push it forward and will use anything as an excuse. Maybe the partner also got the wannabe assassin onto the security detail in Tallinn.

It would be very exciting if UDC wasn't dead, but I'm pretty sure he is. He would be breathing water for a start. Was it not a headshot? I need to rewatch!

The bit where his security guard was pushing him under the water was awful. I thought he was going to drown him! I really like his head of security.

Now Nuria and her brother know about the secret hideyhole and they know who he is, they've taken his dirty money, and Nuria helped him escape, they may be done for assisting an offender / tampering with evidence. Maybe they go to prison if they don't die?!

I think it'll go nuclear though and they'll kill off his whole Spanish family.

FloordrobeIsGoingToGetME · 08/12/2024 19:28

I cannot wait for Thursday!

Me and DH think Nuria would make a great con woman/hitman's partner. We can see her coming around to it and bringing season 2.

Definitely think UDCs partner had been got to. Didn't he say the board would veto the release of River if UDC wasn't there to push it through?

I wonder if the Jackal will somehow enable the release of River, as an element of 'good guy against the evil machine'?

This is what I was coming on to say. I think Nuria is a LOT more ruthless. She has a useless shit of a brother and her mother is a bit odd. She's already been there with him while he's disguising herself and she knew perfectly well he was up to no good. Ditto when she asked him to help with her brother - I thnk she knew he wasn't necessarily going to just hand over some cash. I can totally see her becoming a partner/accomplice.

BustingBaoBun · 09/12/2024 15:25

That's a good point. She was shocked that he killed people for money, but not that shocked as she carried on with the relationship.

FloordrobeIsGoingToGetME · 09/12/2024 17:23

Yes - she pretty much said 'don't do it again' which is kind of not the reaction of a typical person!

FridayNight1975 · 10/12/2024 08:20

this is what I haven’t understood from the beginning.

why is MI5/6? even handling this case? I remember at the beginning it was mentioned that they would investigate because it was believed it was a British shooter.

and so what? It happened in Germany and especially after Brexit, I would be shocked if a police investigation was just moved to the UK because the shooter is believed to be British.

it just bothered me so much and I get stuck in this type of thing watching shows. The amount of money involved in this investigation must be extremely high and the British seem to be fully in charge, not just cooperating/sharing information with other countries.

please correct me if I’m wrong.

FloordrobeIsGoingToGetME · 11/12/2024 20:48

Not long to wait now...

Just saying!!!

drspouse · 11/12/2024 23:07

We made do with Shetland today and at least we've got the new Strike series next week!

BinaryDot · 11/12/2024 23:40

I'm remembering something about the 3D printed special gun he got from the Irish armourer - didn't he say it would only be able to make a limited number of shots because it was basically plastic? How many shots has the Jackal already taken with it?

Smidge001 · 12/12/2024 00:48

I was late to watching this episode.

While the river man and his bodyguard were in the water, didn't the bodyguard swap over his hat or something? I thought he was trying to confuse the jackal into shooting the wrong person? But then they both ended up dead in the water, so it seemed a bit of a pointless potential twist that went nowhere!

I don't mind bianca being ruthless, I think she'd have to be in that job. But as with both of them, surely they shouldn't be married or have people they love. Isn't that the main point everyone knows - if you're a spy you can't have an achilles heel. Family would be your weak spot. Having said that, wtaf with her husband moving in with his ex??!

Agree with others that Nuria is definitely seeming to be OK with his choice of job! Can't stand her waste of space brother so a bit disappointed jackal didn't kill him. But was definitely cheering him on from the boat to get his main target.

Plot holes galore, but still enjoying it. Why did jackal need a boat driver though? Couldn't he have just hired a boat himself to save killing yet another innocent man?

OP posts:
BustingBaoBun · 12/12/2024 07:29

I think he had to hire a boat and driver because that boat owner was known to UDCs security as they said 'oh here's XXX, he usually doesn't come this close fishing' and he was just outside the two miles security zone.

Tonight's the night, we always have an early tea so we can get stuck in after!
