Semis example: Tasha is top of leaderboard but lowest public vote. Pete is bottom of leaderboard but has the second highest public vote.
Pete would still be in a DO with JB and would probably go out.

Tasha 5 + 1 = 6
Sarah 4 + 3 = 7
JB 3 + 2 = 5
Chris 2 + 5 = 7
Pete 1 + 4 = 5

Let's take that example again but have Pete have the biggest support (so swap Pete and Chris)

Tasha 5 + 1 = 6
Sarah 4 + 3 = 7
JB 3 + 2 = 5
Chris 2 + 4 = 6
Pete 1 + 5 = 6

In this scenario, Pete AND Chris would stay as you have three on a tie but the ones with the most public support go through.
Tash would be in a DO with JB and JB would probably go out.

I didn't know that Sarah was a ringer. Makes sense though.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 10/11/2024 12:57

Thanks for the example @BehindTheSequinsandStilettos

Yes, she is a ringer and you can tell from her spins and just the way she is very disciplined in her movement.

No one makes a fuss over her being a ringer than they do with Tasha though.

I'd rather Tasha and Sarah in the final over Pete, but he is probably second most popular in public votes.

Hoping that JB stays a few more weeks with Lauren.

LochKatrine · 10/11/2024 13:04

Tasha is 26, and studied ballet and tap from her very early years.
Sarah is 53 and studied drama. I really don't think there's a comparison.

Indeed!

I used to do dance classes between the ages of 7-10 which is over 40 years ago but I think if I were ever to be on strictly I’d be described as a ringer because of it 😆

KnottedTwine · 10/11/2024 13:53

When DD saw that Tasha was going on Strictly her exact words were “she was in love island, she’s deaf, she’s a professional dancer”.

BehindTheSequinsandStilettos · 10/11/2024 14:07

I like Sarah and I admire what she can do (am the same age) but she was a swing in Cats and her Mum is a ballerina.
It's much more than just being an actress. Like Debbie, she's trained in ballet but a swing dancer is often the most talented as they have to be able to step in/ cover all the parts of the ensemble.
We've been through this. I'm fine watching her but she herself isn't pulling a Denise "I just sat on a chair" Van Outen. She hasn't denied her skills. It's simply that she's older so gets cut more slack but you are kidding yourself if you don't think it gives her an unfair advantage, same as all the others who went under the radar compared with Danny (Jay/Jill/Kara/Caroline).

BehindTheSequinsandStilettos · 10/11/2024 14:09

I wish Tash had been with Kai. Aljaz isn't doing it for me at all and Kai would have had more chemistry with her. Plus the music for that QS was dire.
But as I've said, no skin in the game here - I will vote for the best freestyle and not waste them all at the start (made that mistake with Hamza then wished Helen had won).

LochKatrine · 10/11/2024 14:11

@BehindTheSequinsandStilettos I think if your Mum was a ballerina, it doesn't necessarily mean that you are, too, or are as talented.
She's obviously good at dance, she's very fit and runs marathons, but I think that being a woman in her 50s does make her less of a ringer than someone similar, in their 20s
She's best known for Miranda, so it's hardly been a continuous high level dance career.

Arconialiving · 10/11/2024 14:17

I agree @LochKatrine

BehindTheSequinsandStilettos · 10/11/2024 18:52

In terms of ringer status, she's less than Tash, more than the others - you can see it when she turns. It doesn't mean she's not putting the work in. It does mean she has an edge from doing ballet, tap, modern and jazz at musical theatre college.

EvilRingahBitch · 10/11/2024 19:37

I don't know why the pros can't resist the urge to give spins to their ringers early doors. It's such a flagrant giveaway.

If I was a pro with a stealth ringer scoring nice and high I'd only bust the series of impeccable spins out for Blackpool at the very earliest and do a big deal about how much we've been practising spotting for the last ten weeks, which is probably the minimum it would take to teach them to a beginner.

MouseMinge · 10/11/2024 20:57

I'm ambivalent about the depth of Sarah's ring. Yes, she was in musicals as a dancer when she was in her late teens and twenties but she's not earned a career as a dancer for decades now. Sure, she has a head start on many of them but she's a light ringer to me, similar to Debbie McGee but miles away from Layton and Tasha. I think when you are mostly earning your living as a professional dancer or as a musical all singing/dancing/acting performer then you really shouldn't be on Strictly.

People often say "but if there were no ringers then they'd all be awful" which is proven to be wrong most years. Montell is amazing and has no dance training. Sarah shows that a background in dance at an early age is a huge help but so is being so bloody fit in your fifties. I'm not suggesting no ringers ever but when it comes to the overt ringiest ringers ever, I'm not happy for them to be in the show. I generally don't enjoy them because often their amazing dance skills are not partnered with the warmth and joy you can get from a non-dancer who is loving learning to dance.

TheShellBeach · 10/11/2024 21:02

I think Sarah is fab.

To be able to dance like that at her age is exceptional.

Wittow · 10/11/2024 21:03

I think Shirley was cruel to Shayne who just wanted his mum to see him dance at Blackpool. (She's disabled so can't travel far 😪)

xsquared · 10/11/2024 21:16

I'm wish people would stop bringing Sarah's age into it. She's 53 she's not even got her pension yet! You don't suddenly lose the ability to dance after a certain age if you're reasonably fit, which she clearly is.

I used to attend a swing fit class, run by a lady in her 60s whose other dance class appeared in the ident before Strictly started back in 2018ish.

I was the youngest person there at the tender age of 40. The average age before I attended must have been around 60 but they were all very fit, active, knew the choreography and well coordinated!

LochKatrine · 10/11/2024 21:19

I think the point is comparing 53 to 26.
'tis all.

xsquared · 10/11/2024 21:21

Yes, there's been that but when some say it's amazing that she's able to dance like that at 53, it sounds like they're referring to an elderly lady!

I think to say she's an amazing dancer without bringing her age in it should be enough. But that's just me.

LochKatrine · 10/11/2024 21:24

I think she's less of a ringer than Tasha, that's my point.

KnottedTwine · 10/11/2024 21:24

Oh come on. She is there to judge the dancing, not who has the most worthy sob story.

LochKatrine · 10/11/2024 21:26

Good point, @KnottedTwine . I'm just tired of the sob stories. Everyone could produce one of those.

She always falls hard for Deadnans.

MouseMinge · 10/11/2024 22:59

A friend and I make up fake scenarios in which to use real, but would never be used, sob stories. Today's mostly revolved round punching Donald Trump in the face and we were nearly hooting like owls at the "hilarity" of it all. The sob story is always told in a comedy accent for added stupidity.

KnottedTwine · 16/11/2024 21:31

Has to be Pete in DO tonight, that was bloody awful.
