Let’s hope it’s better than the opening ceremony!

Starts at 7 pm on BBC 1.

Alex Yee will be carrying the GB flag.

I enjoyed the opening ceremony.

Fortyshadesofgreen345 · 11/08/2024 13:25

Thanks for heads up!

I think the French should be proud; they have put on a very good games all in all.

The majority of the locations were stunning!

AnnaMagnani · 11/08/2024 13:31

Thanks for the heads up! I'll get the wine ready Grin

TizerorFizz · 11/08/2024 13:37

Swimming in the Seine was a mistake and the sailing was a farce with no wind. Brittany would have been so much better for sailing and there’s a lake in the Bois de Boulogne. Genuinely loved how the rest of it was staged. Now it’s the USA who apparently don’t watch athletics on the tv. So it’s coming first in LA. Then swimming and their favourite sports in week 2. It’s all about tv !

Sourisblanche · 11/08/2024 13:39

I enjoyed the opening ceremonySmile

We have watched the whole olympics in France and have loved it.

Ponkpinkpink15 · 11/08/2024 13:49

I need it to be over!

opening was ok, less boring than most. I was mostly just relieved it went off with no major security issues.

I'll half watch the closing ceremony,

just enjoying trampolining at the moment!!

Tour de France straight onto the Olympics, my eyes are square!!

Tour de France Femme next 🤦🏻‍♀️

Berlinlover · 11/08/2024 13:53

I really enjoyed the opening ceremony, people seem to love to criticise.

Topseyt123 · 11/08/2024 13:59

I did enjoy the opening ceremony, but I think there should have been a plan B for if the weather was inclement, which obviously it was

I'll probably see some of the closing ceremony.

I enjoyed the opening ceremony.

Me too! Don’t understand all the dislike! My only criticism was that it was so spread out along the river that it was a bit patchy, but otherwise I thought it was original , varied and unique, and a nice change from the usual stuff. Great shame about the rain.

ParisinFrance · 11/08/2024 14:05

I’ve enjoyed the whole thing so I am looking forward to the ceremony later. It is on for quite a long time so I will record it and fast forward if I need to.

That's not a bad idea... I watched the opening on iPlayer and fast forwarded a few times. Half of the fun was comparing notes on here Grin

hopeishere · 11/08/2024 15:49

Apparently Tom Cruise has filmed a bit for the closing ceremony!

Newgirls · 11/08/2024 15:52

I’ll be watching

i also loved the opening ceremony. Loved them showcasing the architecture and river and having such a mix of performances.

I find the stadium shows very dull - usually just lots of pattern forming of people running around.

By far the best olympics (after London of course!) - the energy, creativity, styling of it all. Just very very cool.

Margo2023 · 11/08/2024 15:55

Looking forward to it. I enjoyed the OC and thought the rain whilst a shame for those performing, added a lovely magical edge and Paris looked very pretty. Rose chilling so will pop that opening and get comfy soon

ClaudiaWinklepanda · 11/08/2024 15:56

Why were people like Lady Gaga and Rafa Nadal in the opening ceremony if they’re not French? Was that ever explained?

Newgirls · 11/08/2024 15:58

i reckon they had a brainstorming session and thought ‘who would we like’ and went for it. An international artist for an international competition. There were lots of French stars too so a nice mix

no idea about the tennis choice!

xxSideshowAuntSallyxx · 11/08/2024 16:01

If they have Tony (it's been a rough couple of weeks so I may have got his name completely wrong) again it would be worth it!

Boringcatchronicles · 11/08/2024 16:01

Thankfully nearly over. Opening ceremony was shit. Just no to a lot of it. Worst olympics ever.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 11/08/2024 16:03

I thought the opening ceremony was incoherent but the Olympics as a whole have been great, and I think the closing ceremony will be less artistic but more meaningful - I love to see the winners carrying their countries' flags.

LightFull · 11/08/2024 16:09

I enjoyed the opening ceremony

Pinkdressandahighpony · 11/08/2024 16:31

I wasn’t too impressed with the opening ceremony but I will miss watching it every evening!

JewelleryCat · 11/08/2024 17:06

I wonder what they’ll do for the Paralympic opening ceremony on the 28th. I hope this will be a better closing ceremony though

Arconialiving · 11/08/2024 17:46

I loved the opening ceremony & have loved (almost) every part of the Olympics.

I do feel it has been tarnished with 2 individuals with XY chromosomes winning Gold in women's boxing. The injustice, unfairness & danger of this makes me so angry however I'm focusing on all the amazing athletes & especially the strong females, so that 2 cheats don't ruin what has been a phenomenal spectacle of human achievement.

Looking forward to the closing ceremony!

Supergirl1958 · 11/08/2024 17:50

@birdsoeking and also Bryony Page! Im
really sad these games are over! Post London, where I was a games maker, these are the games I’ve been most invested in since then. In Rio I was busy getting my house ready to move into, and Tokyo, well, erm, was tricky to get into!

The next 17 days will be hard until the paras.

Heard a rumour that snoop, billie eilish and Tom cruise are involved in some hand over to LA
