Favourite retro advert campaigns

Usually when people discuss retro nostalgic adverts, they usually refer to individual ones. I want to know what other people's favourite advert campaigns were. Mine are:

  1. The PG tips adverts with the chimpanzees - enough said 🤣🥰.
  2. The Philadelphia adverts with those two shrill eccentric women.
  3. The insurance company adverts with the blonde bespectacled boy/man called Norman. He has the ability to see into the future, hence his job 🤣
  4. The adverts for shares of electricity companies after they got privatised. They all featured this monster family (like Munsters or Adams Family)

Oh the Nescafé ones, where it was made into a pretentious soap opera (a bit like the Oxo family) . Still better than the Nescafé song

Oxo adds might be the most iconic, closely followed by fairy

StoatofDisarray · 13/07/2024 21:08

Cheesy I know but some of the Levi's jeans ones.

namechanging21 · 13/07/2024 22:55

Smash potatoes - the martians (?) rolling about laughing at humans mashing potatoes.

jannier · 13/07/2024 22:58

Watch out, watch out there's a Humphrey about.....milk with the straws.

NotSoFlatStanley · 13/07/2024 23:19

“If you see Sid, tell him” From the late 80’s. Can’t remember what Sid needed to be told about - BT, Gas??

Was it the Toffee Crisp one? "Are you there Sidney??" When they were doing a seance?

StirlingMallory · 14/07/2024 00:45

Leonard Rossiter & Joan Collins. Was it Campari?

novocaine4thesoul · 14/07/2024 00:46

For mash, get smash
Kia Ora - boogie boogie boogie - Adora
As fruity as fruitella
Tango was later, but still good
A really weird one that I have never been able to find since involving two "jazz style" gentlemen, formally dressed that muttered some words and it ended up with them saying "beef stew", defo in the '90s, and it bore no resemblance to what they were selling. I am thinking it was pot noodle or tuc crackers

My dad seemed to like the Cadbury's flake one, the Timotei (shampoo) one, and Harmony hair spray (is she or isn't she) old perve fgs lol.

The vw golf ad from the 80's with the woman leaving her husband. She's upset and takes off her jewellery, posts the wedding ring through the letterbox, dumps the coat and earrings but as she goes to drop the car keys down the drain she decides to keep the car.
Last scene shows her driving away with a smile and the tag line was something like "if only everything was as reliable as a Volkswagen"
An absolutely classic ad that I still find myself thinking about all these years later.

whosthefoolnow · 14/07/2024 01:57

Sony Bravia. I liked the paint on the block of flats but the coloured bouncing balls bouncing down the street was spectacular. And all real, not C.G.I camera trickery. And the music was fab.
