I thought it was great! A fitting send-off that played with their relationship and didn't take itself too seriously. I'm going to have to rewatch the escape room episode now though, to see if there really is a bit where you can tell it's not Steve.

There is, I saw a screenshot of it on Twitter. Exactly the level of forward planning and detail I expect from them.

I loved this last episode.

WiImaDickshow · 13/06/2024 21:07

A joke. He had to hold the box which Steve shat into in La Couchette.

Edited

Thanks I totally forgot about that!

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 14/06/2024 09:33

I thought it was clever but it seemed to be a bit of a cop out to be honest. And yes, 9 episodes for 9 series! They’re probably fed up of doing it all though and don’t want to come up with a new idea.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 14/06/2024 11:05

I loved it (didn't watch it till last night and I need to rewatch all the Easter Eggs )

They were being "them" not characters .
It must've been difficult to stay in the role of themselves without corpsing . If you see them doing the interviews they are very much in tune with each other , often going off into fits of laughter .

It all wrapped up nicely and no I don;t think they ran out of steam .

DH and I are going to see Stage/Fright next year looking forward to that .

(Might have to watch all the episodes again too) Grin

I'm a huge fan and have watched since Series One, but I can't help but feel disappointed about this final episode, yet I can't quite articulate why? I think maybe I was waiting for something more... Something big, perhaps? And it just never came. And then it was over? I'm not sure.

A bit like real life then?

sparkleowl · 14/06/2024 11:18

PinkFizz1 · 13/06/2024 08:59

I feel a bit deflated after that and I can’t quite articulate why. I enjoyed some of the in jokes, but honestly it felt a bit sloppy and that not much thought had gone into it.

Or maybe too much thought?
I did like it, it had real funny moments ( cocaine in the loo and Ann Reid requesting a toot) and sad and human moments too.All life is there. Sending up their own profession too.😃

Nor was Helen McCrory as she’s sadly no longer with us.

David Warner also dead (Trial of Elizabeth Gadge) the Magistrate/chief of village in the middle below. In the last episode he was in the clips shown.

I saw somewhere that they managed to reference every single other episode of IN9 in some way, whether through a clip, an actor, a line, a joke or even just saying its name. So basically a huge long self-referential pat on the back! But I still quite liked it. The "spot the hare" was funny, too.

OutOfTheHouse · 14/06/2024 16:50

The funny thing in our house is that we had watched an episode of Would I Lie to You before watching this. In it Steve, who was a guest, talked about the pretending to be dead that he does where they meet to write.

WiImaDickshow · 14/06/2024 21:16

They're not fed up as such, just taking a break. They said below they would be interested in one-off specials in the future for Halloween or Xmas (I'd guess after Stage/Fright is done and dusted and they've had a year or so exploring other things). For stans, video below talks about order they filmed season 9.

Someone mentioned the full montage. Here it is, what people in the cinema saw, without the cutaways to the guest stars. So it does work like a usual montage - similar scenes of laughter, screaming, dancing etc rather than focusing on the 245 actors that weren't in the room.

Inside No. 9 - Plodding On Montage - FULL

filmed on my phone as they played it in the cinema so sorry for the quality

Thank you for sharing those, it made me realise how many of the 6 idiots have been in their shows. What a dream it would be if we had a LOG/6 idiots collaboration.

dreaaamm · 14/06/2024 21:45

can any of you experts please tell me what series/episode the mask at 28 - 30 seconds in the fully montage comes from?

It's like a sort of whickerman/corn dolly mask with a man inside making muffled noises.

Am asking becaues I've not seen it but it looks pretty Harrowing style and I'd like to avoid watching it accidentally alone at night!

Thanks.

RainbowZebraWarrior · 14/06/2024 21:47

I loved that they got Mark Gatis in there - with his disparaging (apparently off screen) comments - knowing that he, Steve and Reece love and respect each other, yet still sending the profession up, as a PP said. The cocaine references included.

Very clever.

As someone else said, they deserve honours for their dedication, talent and commitment.

I've been watching some of their YouTube interviews ( and one where they discuss "Christine" with Reece commenting that it was the one he wasn;t in much ! )

It is quite a stunning piece of writing there is not a wasted word .

We really need to do a list of favourites from 1-55 Grin

Mr King does have shades of The Wicker Man to it .
It's not scary like the Harrowing is but involves children so you might want to avoid it .
Sardines and Wise Owl are along similar lines .

I like Mr King too. Can’t think why. My DM who’s an ex primary school teacher would probably hate it. But have been in enough schools as a non pupil with DM to know all the gossip.

Quiet Night In

Series 1 Ep 2

That one always seemed a bit rogue to me. A brilliant episode but so far removed from their usual ones.

For pure comedy and cleverness Reese when he’s in Cold Calling putting on a female voice has to be one of the best ones. I don’t think Steve does that, putting on voices.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 15/06/2024 09:58

The first one I watched was The Devil of Christmas , I did a search first and read about it being a pisstake of the dreadful 70s soaps where the walls moved and things were shifted by a runner creeping along the floor . (It is very hammy but deliberately)

The narration talks about Rula's character missing her mark or cue and the dinner scene where they don't eat.
But then there's The Twist Xmas Shock

I keep saying to my adult DD "Brush my hair for me Julian , you know I;ve never liked storms" when I want her to do something Grin
