Anyone just watched? Not sure what I made of that!

Well, I sobbed my heart out through that. I started when Reece was 'getting upset' in the loos, and then "Time to say goodbye" started, and I was gone.

Clever, beautiful, funny, and a fitting way to say goodbye.

I'm looking forward to any specials they do.

Fin.

I feel a bit deflated after that and I can’t quite articulate why. I enjoyed some of the in jokes, but honestly it felt a bit sloppy and that not much thought had gone into it.

A lot of thought went into it.

And even then, I won't have spotted them all.
It was a godawful episode if you hate self-referential things but for those who do like meta, it was <chef's kiss>.

Great list Wilma!

Were the montages showing actors who weren’t in the room? Only just wondering that as I remember Sheridan Smith and Keeley Hawes in the montages. I’ll have to go back and check when I’ve got time.

Telly, it's pages and pages long. The person on Twitter has more or less screenshotted every frame and added notes. It's a bit much for me if I'm honest.

OrchardDoor · 13/06/2024 13:51

Which episode was Monica Dolan in? Was she in the room? There was someone who looked a bit like her.

OrchardDoor · 13/06/2024 13:53

Just googled and seen its Once Removed. I'm rewatching all the episodes on iplayer

WiImaDickshow · 13/06/2024 14:38

Yes, Monica Dolan was both referenced and in the party guest scene.
I had to watch Once Removed twice as its Memento reversing confused me at the time!
As a pp said, I cannot screenshot Quinn as a) they haven't finished yet and b) what they are intend doing is screenshotting every frame. I only find it joyous as there is someone out there more obsessed than I. <3 <3 <3
They did have three tweets of the montage in its entirety though as they were at the screening in London. I am surprised bbc haven't put it on YouTube. They've missed a trick there.
It seemed to be a standard montage but it dwelt a few seconds longer on 12 days of Christine and on those who have died since filming - the much-missed Helen McCrory (The Harrowing) and David Warner (Elizabeth Gadge).

I was the same actually. I thought the concept was very clever and really was blown away with the beginning and the first half cleverness but that the ending was weak and the 'twist was just a non-twist.

A better twist would have been [spoiler] after Steve Pemberton's future position was clear and the actual 'twist' (Such as it was there), that they were then 'what are you/we going to do now?' and the answer was 'write 3 more episodes of Inside No 9 - which would have made 9 episodes for the 9th series and be a total twist/surprise.

CassandraProphesying · 13/06/2024 18:26

Personally, I think they should be made to write three more episodes for all nine series so that they all have nine! 😉

I loved it. And Steve said in the ep that the beeb have said they can do specials, they wouldn't have out that in forno reason. OF COURSE there will be specials 🥰

I'm glad I watched it without reading any reviews first so wasn't obsessed with missing anything. The next 7000 watches will be different.

I love, love, love Steve and Reece and can't wait to see what they do next. Apart or together ❤️

OrchardDoor · 13/06/2024 09:39

Sheridan Smith was probably busy, but at least we saw her on the screen.

Jack Whitehall wasn’t there. Nor was Helen McCrory as she’s sadly no longer with us.

At the showing, they said they'd put that in there to try and persuade the Beeb to offer it! Grin
As to the wrap party episode- I got the impression from the audio of the showing that, apart from the main cast who got paid, the others did do it as extras: particularly cool of them as it was filmed in Manchester not London.
Inviting all 300 officially would have been untenable as production would have had to pay hotels/transport. No idea whether they did that for all the 55 who came - or how much it would have cost them overall for expenses.

I wonder how many were in the bar at the same time. i.e Did they all go at the same time, or were some groups filmed on a different day?

Duh · 13/06/2024 20:58

They said the turd in the box was for Jack Whitehall - a joke or a dig?

WiImaDickshow · 13/06/2024 21:07

A joke. He had to hold the box which Steve shat into in La Couchette.

Not sure. It was filmed January. I guess the same day.
But Reece and Steve expressed both their admiration and regret as not all the party guests ended up on camera.

OutOfTheHouse · 13/06/2024 21:57

I might well have to go back and watch the whole series from the start again.
