Anyone just watched? Not sure what I made of that!

Really likes this one, it was a bit like The Mezzotint that mark gatiss did, loved that too.

hoping to get tix for the show next year if they’re not crazy expensive

Invent · 10/06/2024 20:51

I didn't get this last one at all. Was there a twist?

Anyway came on to say I'm reading Murder in Midsummer which is a collection of old school detective stories. It's not a genre I thought I'd like really. However they are very good and a couple are very much Inside No 9. The Villa Marie Celeste by Margery Allingham and The House in Goblin Wood by John Dickson Carr especially. I was actually visualising them being acted out by Steve and Reece. 🙂

He got the widow to place the final page of music in the folder, completing the symphony and passing the curse onto her.

Invent · 10/06/2024 21:13

@TellyUsername ah so nothing I missed. I thought it was pretty obvious he'd do that and thought the twist was whatever scared her on the landing. Thank you though.

TellyUsername · 10/06/2024 21:16

Are there any episodes you can't rewatch? From season 1 it's Tom and Gerri, it really creeps me out.

IPartridge · 10/06/2024 21:19

I've watched a lot but not all of them. I wonder if there's going to be anything in the last episode that you need to have seen previous episodes for. 🤔

They are expensive and almost sold out. I got them for DP for his birthday. Because I want to see it!

I can't rewatch 12 Days of Christine. It's utterly brilliant but it just too affecting.

I watched this with DH having no idea about inside no 9. The silence when it ended... I don't think either of us knew what to say. Tears streaming down both our faces and DH is NOT an easy crier.

Some of these Inside No 9 shouhld have warnings because they are all so different. You can be trotting along merrily through the series and then BANG there's one that's traumatic or one that's horrific.

The Harrowing is pretty disturbing. That one needs a warning.

Waitingfordoggo · 11/06/2024 23:16

‘The Last Weekend’ from series 8 lived rent-free in my head for about a week afterwards; I don’t think I could watch that again. There were at least two Black Mirror episodes that stayed with me too.

WiImaDickshow · 11/06/2024 23:21

Iamiams · 07/06/2024 21:31

Why are there not 9 episodes?

I assume budget?
Commissioning six episodes would also have been a safer option (as anthologies had lessened in popularity ten years ago. More of them popular now owing a debt to Inside No.9).
54 episodes is an amazing achievement.
54 short stories.
I'd have preferred nine series x nine episodes though as 81 : 8+1=9*
But I'd also have liked the ninth series to have happened last year so it ended after nine years (although had it been 1 series each year from 2014 it would have been 2022. 2019 was the "missing" year and 2016 had the Xmas special).

I have been binge watching them all and want to petition for the pair to get King's Honours Wink If Crown Charles would give them both an OBE or CBE a piece for Services to Drama, he'd go up in my estimation.
That they both write it and act in it so well, so impressive.
More impressive than my knowledge of the times tables as of course, 54 also becomes 5+4=9 twist!!! Wink Grin

The Last Weekend is one of my favourite episodes. Out of interest, is White Bear one of the Black Mirror episodes you’re referring to? That has stayed with me for years - it’s phenomenally well done but god it’s harrowing.

Yes- White Bear! And Shut Up and Dance. There was a Christmas one that was a total head-wrecker too!

I didn't like this one 😔 I absolutely loved last week's though

I didn’t like this one either. Wife mentioned her husband had attended Mahler’s funeral (1911) and started on his 9th symphony soon after. Piano tuner and maid mentioned guide dogs ( first guide dogs in UK 1931). I hate inconsistencies like that.

Cryptic crossword No 29,407 | Crosswords | The Guardian
Set by Sphinx aka Steve

Final episode at 10pm tonight - it will be their 55th not 9x6=54, but 5+5=10 and it has been a decade since it began. I'd have preferred 63 episodes though!

Edited

Just came on to say the same about today’s Guardian cryptic crossword being set by the Sphinx. I wondered if it was to coincide with tonight’s final episode !

WiImaDickshow · 12/06/2024 15:54

I am hopeless at crosswords but great at cheating.
I did spot the hare in the crossword though! Grin
Some of the answers are series 9 (goose, trolley, Mulberry, Ctrl-alt-esc, 9th Curse, plod) but others I assume will relate to this evening's?

HotDogJumpingFrogAlbuquerque · 12/06/2024 15:59

The rumour is it’s just a two hander with Steve & Reece and I was hoping it was going to be an episode with them playing themselves writing the last ever episode

If so they could reminisce about episodes and stories that never happened, with the spotlight being the discussion & decision on the storyline for the last ever episode - the drama coming from the 2 of them at odds on which plot / twist they both want to end on

The twist would 🤞 be that they decide that they are ‘Plodding On’ and will actually end on series 9, episode 9 and we get another 3 episodes 😁

TellyUsername · 12/06/2024 17:18

I didn't know Steve set crosswords.

TellyUsername · 12/06/2024 17:18

I didn't know Steve set crosswords.

He has set three iirc - to tie in with Riddle of the Sphinx (series 3), one for when he was on Taskmaster (hilarious - he spelt out something like "Give us five points please Greg" in between the solutions) and one to tie in with the end of IN9 tonight (it was an option on his twitter in May, that or a Q+A with Wilma (my username is the drag queen in Boo to a Goose) or David Sowerbutts (from Psychoville and Death not be proud) going on You Tube.
The man's attention to detail is gratifying and genius. Sphinx is now no more if you click on his history Sad. End of an era.

I am sorely tempted to go to London next Spring. There are a few tickets left. They aren't touring it.

There is also the third book of scripts out in the Autumn.
