Bridgerton Season 3 May 16th binge watch together

I’m not a telly addict but I became obsessed with Bridgerton during Covid times. I love the casting, the settings, the dances, the music, the yearning, and the guarantee of a happy ending.

I’m embarrassed to admit how much I love it in real life because it’s so shallow.

Is anyone else planning to binge watch season 3 when it’s released next Thursday? If so, can we set up a MN support group please?

I'm also of the opinion that it's unlikely they will do many more season, and certainly not all 8. If it takes 2 years to do one, season 8 won't be released until 2034!

Bloody hell!

I'd be 70!

I guess the 2 youngest ones would be about the right age!

Awful season.
Boring sex. How uncomfortable was that bloody chaise lounge... take your future wife in a bed! Colin being a twat.
The boring Mondriches.
The cow eyed Franchesca...one expression acting. I liked her man though.
Lady Danbury and The Queen
... they used to be good but now one is over acting and the other is acting unhinged.
Lady Bridgerton... what on earth is that accent? She sounds almost German at times. I'm guessing the actress isn't posh in real life.
Antony and Kate...dull dull dull

I loved...Lady Feathering and her daughters. Brilliant. Also Varly.
I loved Benedicts story although I was disappointed slightly that his first experience with Paul was not treated the same way as the others...I would have liked to see more wonder in his eyes.

Overall...I don't think I'd bother watching anymore.

Yes, the Francesca actress was terrible and I can't see her carrying a season.

Oh I loved her. She wasn't asked to do very much, that was sort of the point, but she did it very well.
I wasn't so convinced by "OMG I am shockingly attracted to random woman I've just met and am now bisexual!" at the end, but TBH I think even Judi Dench would have struggled with that.

Binglebong · 17/06/2024 19:35

I'm convinced the next will be Benedict given the mention of the masquerade ball at the end. I think they will just condense the timeline.

Newnewer · 17/06/2024 19:40

The timeline has got a bit muddled by the baby scene because they said the ball was next year and eloise said she would be back by next year for the ball. If penelope got pregnant after the wedding and the baby was 6 months or there abouts in the end scene then they have taken it over 12 months

Newnewer · 17/06/2024 19:45

I don't think I will hang around for the next series, it's just lost its appeal. It hasn't left me wanting more. The delayed release was a mistake in my opinion and for the amount of promotion they did they should have featured the main couple more. I wonder if either Colin or Penelope specifically asked for it to be toned down because there was zero chemistry, they didn't even seem like friends

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 17/06/2024 19:54

Nicola Coughlan DID ask for it to be toned down. There's a sex free edit that was made for her Mum it was in her contract.

I think Ruth Gemmell is from Bristol and has a very slight West Country burr, but in general sounds fairly RP. She pretty much talks in her normal voice on Bridgerton, maybe slightly posher but not drastically so. Her accent doesn’t sound weird to me at all ( my voice is also pretty RP but know lots of people from the West Country, so maybe I don’t hear the nuance) where are you from?

Edited for typo

Yes I knew there was an edit for her family. Maybe that's why it comes across as they don't even want to stand next to each other let alone touch

Teacherprebaby · 17/06/2024 20:10

Erm, maybe state spoiler?!

neverclockwatching · 17/06/2024 20:15

A pet annoyance of this season was that Anthony and Kate's 'jaunts ' felt entirely written to fit around their other filming commitments and didn't flow with the story.
I know that Francesca wanted a small wedding but really could one of Jonathan's Bailey's available days be used to attend his sisters wedding?!
Just felt soooooooooooo clunky
Also what was Lady Danbury's brother doing there - beyond Ruth / lady Bridgerton - he had no connection to bride and groom

ImPunbelievable · 17/06/2024 20:18

Teacherprebaby · 17/06/2024 20:10

Who are you talking to?

MamaNewtNewt · 17/06/2024 20:24

Ruth Gemmell was born in Bristol but was raised in Co Durham so will most likely have a north-east accent in real life.

Agree, I think she did what she was asked to do really well.

I don't like the shock attraction ending because the whole series spent Francesca's storyline building up the idea that not all love is shocking passion, that quiet deep connection is also a valid form of love. Given the book's source material and season 1 sex scenes I thought this was a nice and brave touch. I personally really relate to Francesca - I'm also quiet and connect with people who share a genuine obsession with my interests, and attraction comes from that. So to me the reveal that actually she doesn't love differently from her siblings at all, she just hasn't met someone of the right sex yet, really fell flat. I wish they had done the storyline differently, so that she genuinely loves her husband but also later falls in love with Michela.

I don't pick up much of a regional accent- do you? Not being snarky, I'm genuinely asking, I think we all hear accents differently depending on our backgrounds and what's familiar.

I don't get any NE accent in that interview. I'm from Newcastle with a fairly soft Geordie accent.

Karmaisagod · 17/06/2024 21:07

I thought Hannah Dodd did the "Oh, so this is what kissing my husband is like. Not quite what I expected." thing very well, actually.

I loved the last episode and overall I loved the series. I struggled with believing Colin's attraction for Penelope, but I did wonder if that said more about me than about the writing or acting. The sex was not as hot as in previous series. That chaise longue scene bugged me no end - the mechanics and comfort seemed all wrong. But I was moved by the "strong woman / women supporting women" narrative of it all - I thought there were some very touching scenes between women.

Perhaps I'm easy to please. I do want to like Bridgerton. Even the Michaela thing I have faith they'll make work.

My only complaint is the TWO YEARS' WAIT. It is totally Benedict's turn next. How good will that be?!

Maybe watch the whole thing before opening and reading the thread with "binge" in the title?

It's not colour blind casting is it?

This is the way it has been written for Netflix.

What I think is a shame is that they all dress the same.

It's not colour blind casting is it? Sorry if I got the wrong word, but that is what I have seen many articles describing it as.

What I think is a shame is that they all dress the same. That’s part of my point. The Queen could not just wear amazing wigs but also amazing head wraps.

I saw an interview with Nicola where she said she thought there was a clause in her contract and in fact there wasn't.

No I think you are right.

I think in one episode (unless I misunderstood/misheard) there was something said about Black people being in the Ton due to Queen Charlotte.

I think it confused me that if it was colour blind casting then there was no "explanation" needed iyswim.

Not sure I have put that very well.
