I'm pretty certain they can "buy on the day" if they have money left. I have a hazy recollection of somebody doing just that in a market square and gazebos

Whilst Mary might have liked the frosting on Roisin's changing rooms, you could almost make out the logos on vans driving past. Those windows needed something extra (and double checking from across the road) before anybody sane would strip off.
That said, it did give off a vibe similar to my local Anthropologie shop.

It would be really good if they decorated charity shops another time. At least the staff/volunteers might leave it up and get some footfall.

I think she had curtains as back up for the windows

As a very niche shop, I actually thought the sandpit was a great way of enticing more customers in, parents would pop in with children and they would buy a small crystal from the sandpit, even maybe starting a collection. The shop would get more interest for having the unique display.

It was a shame Anthony went, but at this stage I’d say the same of any of them - they’re so close to the end. I think it was simply the dark green paint that did for him, and I couldn’t argue with that. The till area he did was great, but it wasn’t enough unfortunately.
My favourite this week was actually Ben’s design. I really liked what he did with his spaces.

PaperBauble · 17/04/2024 21:45

I liked the wallpaper. Gold Mould for the win!

So tough on Anthony this week. I immediately felt for him when Roisin announced they would have to wallop acres of paper up. Especially in between all those difficult spaces from floor to ceiling.

But that green was dire and the padded window circles with dowels as bag displays just no.

Mary Portas loved the sandpit. 😀

So did I and the moss mountains too but looks like me and Mary are the only ones!

Oh wow, that's great news! I was very sad when he was eliminated though I understand why he went after that particular task.

I thought the concept of the moss mountains was good. I thought the comments of the shopkeeper a bit odd - natural moss would not last. He acknowledged difficulty in handing over design responsibility to someone else which does beg the question as to why he signed up for the project.

The crystals shop was a harder ask IMHO - more specialist knowledge of the topic and customers would have been useful. Most of us have been customers in clothing shops and have experience to draw on, even if its just a learned hatred of bad changing rooms and nowhere to sit.

I also loved the sand and the moss mountains. I thought it was imaginative and would likely entice customers in that would not otherwise visit that type of shop.

I do get that the sand would have made a mess but it's a shame they didn't keep it as I bet children loved it

Soukmyfalafel · 18/04/2024 10:29

Even though Anthony was consistently good, I think he was the weakest this week.

I thought the standard was very good this week and far better than last week.

What is next weeks challenge?

Bruisername · 18/04/2024 10:29

Dressing rooms in an arena

Soukmyfalafel · 18/04/2024 10:29

Forgot to add that I like how Matt really thinks about how a space will be used. He's good at explaining why he makes certain decisions.

That's a new one.

They will need a bed for the groupies and a mirrored table in there somewhere.

Maybe not for Sophie Ellis Bextor though 😂

On The Rest is Entertainment podcast they had a question about what happens if the client doesn't like what the designer does. Alan confirmed that there have been some cases where this has happened and they've returned it to its original state.

shearwater2 · 18/04/2024 11:34

I was sad Anthony went but it was the only correct choice to make.

Oddly I then watched a repeat of Your Home Made Perfect from 2023 shown again yesterday evening and there was a lot of bottle green in the initial design of Jill Halfpenny's flat.

But I noticed Jill wisely totally ignored the colour scheme while adopting the architect's design!

I like dark green but not as an entire colour scheme. I have a lovely dark green velvet armchair and footstool. That does not mean I would paint all the walls and ceiling that colour!

longtompot · 18/04/2024 12:10

There's been a programme on BBC2 this week looking back at the change of the home improvement shows over the years. I'm hoping todays will show a bit about Home Front, the interiors show, which I really liked. They showed some 80s Gardeners World with Geoff Hamilton which was nice to see.

No I did too. Thought they were a great idea to get people in the door

shearwater2 · 18/04/2024 16:19

I did too. I was worried as I thought they might come out really crap - imagined painted polystyrene, but what he actually produced was very good and so thoughtful and bespoke to the products, all of it.

SoupDragon · 18/04/2024 17:28

What I find odd about the mossy mountains is that on Street View the shop window looked that this at some point before...

Their Xmas window display looked like that too (going by Instagram) - but I think they used real plants.

Sure, it's The Home That 2 Built and it's on BBC2 😊

JaneIves · 18/04/2024 20:02

Only driven past so far, can confirm that the moss mounds are no more!
But there is a ?polar bear sculpture in the window on the left now...
